bandit25 -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/20/2007 2:00:41 PM)

I'm not sure Chicago hos are ever safe around domi.  Course, he's been lusting after prop in the other thread.

ty on the profile and avatar - I do like her - she makes me think of a late 1800's European woman whose portrait is being done in China or India.  I think her vibe is similar to mine  - kind of straight forward and direct but appears kind of sweet on first glance and her coloring and vanilla features are not unlike mine - but mine don't come together in the same way...she was the closest thing I could find that seemed to relate.

Yep I bet they complimented your huge gold handbag..Trashy ho.  What were you wearing that could possibly make gold shoes "look good?"  Did they match your bra?   tooo fucking funny...Were ya snappin' your gum and playing with your hair during your appointment with the attorney?  Filing your nails and talking about Brenda the receptionist at the salon....Who is a known whore...You are so screwed.

ocilla -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/20/2007 2:06:36 PM)

is it time for a cooking interlude? It's been awhile since a recipe was posted

Ho Cakes:

1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup self-rising cornmeal, or from a mix (recommended: Aunt Jemima's)
2 eggs
1 tablespoon sugar
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon water
1/4 cup vegetable oil or bacon grease
Oil, butter, or clarified margarine, for frying

Mix all ingredients together, except for the frying oil, in a bowl until well combined. Heat the frying oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Drop the batter into the hot skillet. Use about 2 tablespoons of batter per hoecake. Fry each hoecake until brown and crisp; turn each hoecake with a spatula, and then brown the other side. With a slotted spoon, remove each hoecake to drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
Chef's Note: Leftover batter will keep in refrigerator for up to 2 days.

e01n -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/20/2007 2:13:46 PM)

ingredients:
2 large bunches collard greens (about 2 pounds), ribs removed
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 onion, halved and sliced
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 cup water
1 to 2 teaspoons chipotle hot pepper sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt

preparation:
  1. Stack the collard greens and roll up the stack. Cut the roll into 1/2-inch-thick slices. Set aside.
  2. In a medium pot, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the onion; sauté about 5 minutes or until golden. Reduce heat to medium. Add the garlic; sauté for 5 minutes more.
  3. Add the water and collard greens to the pot; season with hot sauce and salt. Cook, uncovered, for 2 minutes, tossing the greens occasionally. Taste and adjust seasonings, if necessary.

Makes 4 to 6 servings.
You just can't have ho cakes without the greens, yo!

<edits to fix the crap paste code from my recipe DB that I don't have to screw with on a real OS, but have to endure on this Windows box...<sigh>>

ocilla -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/20/2007 2:18:39 PM)

Nice Eoin!  Course we are all about hamhocks down here so I did not have a non pork collard recipe.

Used to express surprise or joy, to attract attention to something sighted, or to urge onward: Land ho! Westward ho! Divi ho!

divi -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/20/2007 2:19:20 PM)

both those recipes sound pretty damn good

ocilla -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/20/2007 2:22:22 PM)

Yeah - down here we call the juice the collards is called pot liker and as an important part of the result as the greens - it is more of a soup almost - the ho cakes are usually dipped or crumbled

Ok joke now
Q. How does a french gal hold her liquor?

ocilla -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/20/2007 2:24:48 PM)

A. By the ears

e01n -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/20/2007 2:30:57 PM)

I still occasionally get calls to cook glatt for people, so pork tends to be right out (and for that, I use EVOO instead of butter). It also works well with more than just collards - cabbage done this way is quite good as well.

But the chipotle hot sauce... oh, that's really only swappable with something equally as flavorful: sriracha, f'rinstance...

Right now, I'd prefer to be Donna's (research) bitch than The Rooster's...

31 minutes before class starts... anyone have any ideas for me in that time frame?

ocilla -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/20/2007 2:44:46 PM)

Plenty o time for some tease and denial.  Suggest you get on the phone asap with D.

Is that the kind of ideas you were looking for?

What's glatt?

ocilla -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/20/2007 2:46:40 PM)

How come you don't appear above? Are you surfing under the radar?
