ORIGINAL: sappatoti Hey Lumus. You must never let the powers that be know your true capabilities. Remember Scottie's (of Star Trek fame) rules... "Always tell them more than necessary or longer than necessary. That way, when you do it faster and with less resources you look like a fucking genius." OK, he didn't exactly say it like that, but that's the general idea. :) Yup. I went by that for the longest time. Then I said to hell with it and got inventive, which led to some rather innovative changes - which others took credit for. Now it isn't about me getting the credit, as much as it is to show that the hacks who passed my work off as theirs are, in fact, hacks. Ever have to deal with that type of crap from co-workers? Bah. It's why I hate office politics... Ooooh yeah. I once worked as a contractor for a company who needed to install a brand new mainframe installation. This company was using one manufacturer's equipment but needed a full-blown installation of a competitor's equipment in order to handle the customer service responsibilities they were assuming. I was an expert with the competitor's equipment, so I was called in; along with seven or eight other contractors from different consultants. Over the course of the work, I was deemed to "not know anything" by the other contractors, although I managed to fix their work during my shift. Of course, they took the credit as their names appeared in the code. As a result, the other contractors were given offers to become permanent employees before I was. Which was fine, but when the last two positions needed to be filled and there were four of us contractors left, I learned the meaning of cutthroat politics. Yeah, I know about office politics all too well. :-)
