Take a look at your hardware and any crappy programs you have installed (especially kids programs). Home and XP are the exact same until you hit networking.. Placebo effect. It is always easier to blame it on Microsoft than it is to take the responsibility for yourself.

OK, I've looked they both have the exact same programs on them. With the exception of the XP pro computer has a whole lot more programs.
No kids programs. Did I forget to mention these kids are 20 year's old?

Oh, I guess I forgot to mention I have a very good friend who worked on XP for Microsoft in Seattle and he has told me there are serious issues with XP home?
Oh wait, thats the placebo affect though isn't it? Maybe he is a mirage?
Oh, maybe I also forgot to mention I used to be in the same business you are so I know a wee little about comptuers.

Now, as I've stated at least 3 to 4 times now. It is personal preference. Either accept the fact I have an opinion or do not.
I am entitled.

Yeah well the same techs like you said there was serious problems with Me and it simply turned out you had no idea what you were doing. (I worked on and sold over 100 Me machines without even a glitch, so what does that tell you?)

It is most likely the hardware on your system, then. Home has been tested on a bazillion systems, so if there was problems like you are trying to falsely convince Me of, they would have shown up. However, 98 times out of 100 the hardware is to blame. People like you think they know what they are doing, put together a shitty rig and then blame Microsoft for the problems. It happens all the time. I see it on an ongoing basis. Typically it is an AMD rig causing the problem because they did not know what they were doing and did not build it according to AMD specifications. Either that or they used low end parts. That is why I only use high end brand name parts when I configure computers... So I am not sitting there trying to pretend like I know what I am talking about by blaming Microsoft and pretending I have friends to back Me up (which is completely useless and impossible to validate on a message board).

you are going to have to come up with better than that. Look for configuration errors, look for low-end hardware. I will bet you 50 dollars you are using a 10 dollar power supply and expecting miracles. I would not be the least bit surprised if you are using an all-in-one piece of shit mainboard and expecting it to perform like a top end solution. you were, after all, touting the virtues of a POS $299 Dell solution.l

quote:

Well you can buy a new Dell for 299.00 now, monitor and all. With a warranty.

Can't build a new pc cheaper than that. I know I build them. At least not the type I happen to like.

Good luck it is simple enough.

The fact that it sounds like you build piece of shit computers says everything about the merit one can place on your statements about the quality of Windows. Garbage in, garbage out. you get what you pay for, it is just that you can't admit it. you feel it is better to place the responsibility squarely on Microsofts shoulder so you can make yourself feel better about yourself and your shitty builds. I have been building and servicing computers since 1994, and working on them since 1986, and My experiences do not mirror yours. your opinion. you are right. That is all it is. I prefer something with a basis in fact however.

Thank you for your ignorance. It is widely accepted. Can't say I imagined anything else after reading some of your other threads.

Too bad for your little company.

Ignorance or not buying into your line of crap? I have been doing this for a long long time and I know a line of crap when I see one, based upon personal experience and that of colleagues in the business.

Soo.. How about rather than professing your perceived superiority crap, why not address the issues in the post, or am I keeping My money in My pocket? I bet I am.

What is the name of your little company again?

By the way I don't play with infants so this is my last post to you in any form.

Well if that is the best childish response you can muster, you have not let Me down. It is true to many of your colleagues here on this forum. Rather than answer the questions, because you can not justify your lines of crap, you come up with childish insults.

The size of the company is first, none of your business and second is not what counts. What counts is our well over a decade of experience in the business from everything from laptops to desktops, workstations and servers. Not "Well, I work for a company that builds shitty computers" or "I have a friend in Microsoft". Good for you. W/we all do. I am a registered Microsoft OEM System Builder, technician and value added reseller.. Ooooooooo..

I am beginning to feel like I am wasting My time here. I typically like conversing with someone that can demonstrate something other than a teenage mentality and can justify and back up their comments and/or attacks. you and your friends have proven time and again that you can do nothing of the sort, and "Yeah, well I have a friend that knows a friend" just does not cut the mustard.

Good riddance to you and your baseless nonsense, trying to masquerade yourself as the definitive resource in the business when all you do is work for someone that builds shitty computers. Good for you. you should be proud. Let us all heed your voice now because you are a puppet of a corporate entity.

Anyways, as you have nothing to say to address any of the points I have made in My thread, I agree with you, time to walk away.

It has been for quite a while. I have a longhorn build or two here already. So far I am not impressed, but the testing is far from over.

answer two questions for me please

what are you running it on (ram, cpu)?

how long is the startup? (hoping it is not a slower load than XP)

I was running them on an Intel 2.8GHz Prescott with 1GB of OCZ EL PC3500 DC RAM, WD Raptor 74GB 10,000 RPM drive, an Asus P4C800-e Deluxe mainboard and an Asus AX800 Pro video card, to give you an idea of the basic system specs.

For your second question, for the first two builds I ran them in a Microsoft virtual PC. I found that the load times were ok, but nothing special. Without anything loaded into Windows yet, just the basic operating system and a few drivers, the load times were roughly the same as a fully loaded XP install. It looked pretty good once you got into Windows, but you can achieve the same effect by downloading the Longhorn visualization kit for XP, freely available on the internet.

Anyways, the long and the short of it is that I found it to be very buggy in the builds that I was using. Half of the programs did not want to work without popping up error screens or simply not running at all. The added nonsense they added to your desktop really does nothing productive and only serves to reduce usable space. I found that I had to disable the feature anyways, which really made no sense why even bother putting the junk there to begin with.

Longhorn needs a LOT of work before it will end up on the desktop. I will play with the newer build when I get some free time to see if it is any better.
