Don't forget the danger to pets... they are "quietly" pulling dog treats off the shelf that are contaminated... rather than issue a recall.

As a parent, I'm extreamly outraged by this. There was ANOTHER recal...this time regaurding childerns clothing from walmart. I swear I feel like making my kids toys myself and growing my own cotton to make their clothes from. Just doesn't seem like ANYTHING is safe these days.

And why should they test their products? They don't make them... manufacterers in countries with questionable human right do.

Testing = man hours = money.

And that's the answer to every problem with every company in the world these days... the less money they have to spend making/importing/shipping/selling stuff, the more money for the owners' pockets.

They don't care much for the health of their own employees why would they care about the consumers? Most Wally World employees are on medicade/medicare or have no insurance whatsoever.

It isn't Wal-Mart.  It is everyone who sells toys period. 
Nothing is going to change until our federal government does something about the terrorism in
China. 
If it is threatening  Americans, it is terrorism.

Its obvious that all toys should be banned, or at least only be sold by prescription. If they are continued to be sold their use should be restricted. Toys should also only be played with under the strict adult supervision of trained personal (The employee pool at the TSA seems to attract appropriately qualified individuals. TSA can also represent the 'Toy Safety Administration' and they'll save money on the uniforms.) provided by the government. When not in use, there should be a law requiring them to be kept in a locked "child proof" cabinet.

I have my own little rants about wal-mart, but mainly just about how they treat their employees.  As for testing the products they sell?  Let's look at it from a different angle.

You own a small store, and some of your merchandise is toys, and you even have some children's clothing.  If Wal-Mart should be required to test all products on their shelves, then... the same goes for you.  Never mind that you can't afford to spend millions of dollars having each item you sell tested, it's now your responsibility to make sure you aren't selling contaminated merchandise.

How was that again?  ;-)  It's the responsibility of the Manufacturer to provide merchandise that is safe for use.  Safe, being defined here as:  toys and clothes that will not poison or easily injure a child.  ANY toy could cause injury to a child; all you need is two children playing together, and one of them to get upset and hit the other with said toy.  The "actual" cause of injury would be the other child, but I think we can be sure some parents would sue the manufacturer.

These are the same people who got some of the Bugs Bunny cartoons censored, you know.

You are joking right? They have a market to monopolise, they can't get caught up in costly testing.

It reminds me of Ford doing a study into a car whose petrol tank had a tendency to leak and explode. They found out that if so many people died a year from this event occurring. Being sued as a result wouldn’t cost more than a product recall.

Manufacturers and food distributors dont even know what's in our grain (any food product for that matter) and meats until there is an outbreak.  Heaven help us if anything is ever infected with anything deadly with a long period of silent symptoms.  For that matter, maybe big brother should stick a fork into anything we consume including drinking our orange juice straight from the carton prior to purchase.   Or maybe i can just get the clerk at Walmart to taste my orange juice for me, and viola! Then, I could stalk them for 30 days for my own safety prior to my consumption.  Where do we draw the line, and what is realistically possible?

You could get these products from many stores, not just Walmart. I remember the old days when "Made in Japan" was a big joke. Made in China, is enough for me to avoid any product so labeled. My fear is that they will mis-label in order to ship to the consumer market. Insane consumption may be a driving factor, China and many other countries want that all mighty American dollar.

I lost my job in the toy industry due to everything being made in China.
I'm not feeling sorry for any of the big companies paying the price now.
