George Ryan, Ex Governor of Illinois lost his appeal to stay out of prison.  The Former Governor of Illinos who as Governor communited the Death Sentence of some 156 inmate, faces prison for years of political corruption, bribary and influnces peddling.  Many of those involved other polictions, lobbyist have been convicted as well.  The corrpution extends to the courts where Ryan attempted to influnce the outcome of civil actions.  One must wonder if Ryan action of community death plenty case is truly a action on the merits or was Ryan as Governor was influced thru other means.

I completely understand why you are asking this because it's almost a knee-jerk response. But one thing you should recall about that particular time were the sheer number of very high profile convictions that were overturned through the court system. There was one case in particular that involved the brutal murder of a little girl. The men convicted in that case were sentenced to death even though the forensic evidence did NOT match up. It took years and years for the truth in this case to finally come out, and the men were exonerated. Concurrent to that, it had also been established that there were several 'confessions' that were obtained through torture. I believe that came out of the 63rd precint, but I'm not sure. All of those convictions were also overturned (by a judge) At any rate, I believe that Ryan's corruption had nothing to do with this decision to place a moratorium on the death sentence in Illinois. What was going on was an outright failure inside of the system to protect innocent people. And whether or not Ryan was in it up to his eyeballs and greedy for a buck or not, I do believe he saw that failure for what it was. And perhaps sensed that he might not be around long enough to really address it, so took a draconian measure to prevent an innocent death.

OK, let me see if I can help here....I lived in Illinois when Ryan was the Secretary of State and the Governor.  Personally, I'd like to see him get about 30 years for what he did to the state.

As Secretary of State, He was responsible for overseeing the state DMV offices.  He started a huge license for bribes scandal.....many personnel were selling licenses to commercial truck drivers who couldn't even read, write or speak English, let alone drive the trucks!  Employees of the offices were required to give to his campaign funds, were accepting bribes for him and themselves.  The whole thing blew up when someone discovered that a trucker that wiped out an entire family paid for his license without even taking a test for it.  While all this was going on, he was running for Governor.  His underlings protected him, literally throwing themselves under the bus to avoid him getting touched.  People from his top aides down to lowly staff in the SOS offices.....no one is really sure what they got for it, but every one of them insisted that he (Ryan) had absolutely NO involvement in the scandal.

Somehow, the idiots in IL actually elected this crook into office.  He put all of his cronies and family members in jobs in Springfield pulling down 6 figures for doing nothing.  He was just as corrupt as Governor as he was when he was Secretary of State.  The man literally bankrupted the state of Illinois!  This guy makes Daly look squeaky clean!  Didn't bother him at all that various state departments faced lay-offs and hiring freezes, as long as he got his $$$$$$.  There was scandal over state contracts awarded to the highest payee to his office, nepotism thruout the state, raises......all sorts of crap.  At least he had the smarts to NOT run again, but that didn't stop him from building a campaign chest of almost 3 million dollars, at least, that was according to the last round of rumors.....but I wouldn't doubt it...the man would sell his grandmother's soul to the Devil if he could make $5.  And under Illinois law, whatever campaign funds an incumbent has when he leaves office, he gets to keep.  THAT'S how he can afford the big bucks laywers.

I'm only sorry that the Feds waited til his ass was out of office to indict him.  Absolutely NO ONE in his office would roll on him.....not sure who finally did, but they did the state of IL a huge favor!  Whether or not the state can recover is another issue.  And what sucks, is that the bastard is going to do time in Club Fed...he should be in one of the State prisons that are so overcrowded  because of the budget cuts they were forced to make when he was in office, resulting in several prisons being losed, and officers losing their jobs.  He wouldn't last a day there.  And don't get me started on his commuting of those death sentences........wait...maybe he should have to go live with them....yeah, that's the idea.....all those poor innocent folks......uh-huh.

Justice may move slowly, but at least he'll finally end up where he belongs.  Unless he develops a "fatal" disease......wouldn't put that past him either!

Cook County IL invented curruption- thats no joke. more litigation per capita there then any place on earth!

you have to consider how the machine works in Cook county.
he is no worse then the ones who havent been caught yet!

Chicagoland is a world all of its own. The mayor was once asked if he would run for president. he replied why would i take a step down??

i missed the politics there when i moved away.  we have them here to. but it is more subtle here- and people stay with in the lines for the most part.

BTW- the results of ryan?  O-B-A-M-A!  and thats no joke!

On the radio today it was said that Ryan gets to stay out of prison on bond while his appeal takes place. It amazes me how people with money/clout get things that the avaerage joe has no chance of getting.
