saltie -> menopause and bdsm (7/7/2005 10:14:10 AM)

Does anybody know if this (BDSM-getting hit etc)can affect menopause in any way? Know it is a stupid question but no idea and dont know who to ask so posted here and hope somebody does.

pandoravampire -> RE: menopause and bdsm (7/7/2005 10:37:09 AM)

In a word - no.
Menopause is the bodies syptomatic response to changes within the hormone system.
Its hormones, not pleasure/pain that cause it, or affect it.

The other way round however, can menopause effect your bdsm? Yes. Fluctuations in hormonal levels, have a direct effect in levels of pain for instance that can be endured.
Your bed at night is more likely to be wet from night sweats rather than squirting lol.

and there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers

thanks for answering me. did not know could affect the pain level either. i only do this for session and know so little about any of it.

perfection20005 -> RE: menopause and bdsm (7/7/2005 5:05:49 PM)

I agree with Pandora. It hasn't affected any of my playtime. I'm only 38, and I know thats young for menopause, but I have been to the docs and tested, so I know I'm going thru it. I actually enjoy play more now. I haven't had to worry about when I was going to have a period. I do have the mood swings and the sweats though!

thanks perfection. i just started going through it only a few months ago so is still only the prechange. so far no period at all for 2 months and for the next two very short but not normal time of month so never know when is coming so hard to plan when it is ok to play. not moody or anything else so am luckly. will be going to the doctor soon and will mention it. nice to go through it early.

this slave has been going through "it"(hormonal imbalanes and fluctuations) for at least 20 years.....at 38, this slave looks forward to when it is finally over(hopefully soon!!!!). the more in tune you are with your body, and the more you can make use of natural remedies and therapies, exercise and fresh air, the better you are able to deal with the seemingly unbearable times when they hit. don't JUST rely on an M.D. and/or prescription. good luck!

saltie -> RE: menopause and bdsm (7/7/2005 11:35:13 PM)

20 years? am sure you will be glad when it is finally over! i do excerise every day as need to for another health reason. a hour at least every day i do. am not into natural products as to expensive but i agree they are better but that is because of animal rights that i do and the chemicals added. if need to take something i will look into it. there is a store that sells natural products near me and more stores that has starting to sell those products. thanks as did not think of that at all. no longer a vegan/buy crulety free so did not think of natural. thank you.

saltie -> RE: menopause and bdsm (7/8/2005 6:40:38 PM)

i spoke to soon about not being moody but the problem is that it could be another reason why i am but not able to get an appointment to the last day of aug with a medical doctor. does any into natural products know what is ok to use for menopause but safe to still use in case it is that other thing and not menopause getting me this way. or maybe a good health site to see if i can find out which of the two it is so know what to get. hoping is not both at the same time!!!

redpetals -> RE: menopause and bdsm (7/8/2005 7:41:19 PM)

try goat weed ..its packaged as horny goat weed etc. its embarrasing to buy but it works on menopauseal problems.i got my lubrication back and my sex drive.this has worked on men friends whom have a rather..umm. short fuse also.it's not expensive,it works on your circulation i think, maybe on your hormonal system.not sure just know it works for me and has worked for others.

saltie -> RE: menopause and bdsm (7/8/2005 8:33:56 PM)

thanks redpetals. there is a local health/natural food store i can try getting it at. no problem physically just moody but might be speaking to soon like i did about my mood.

been having trouble with computer and site so if anybody answers me and i dont get back to them that is why. been getting booted but will answer when i can stay connected

subcheryl -> RE: menopause and bdsm (7/9/2005 9:36:38 AM)

as far as the bdsm part of it, it doesn't really affect it, just the dryness and there are things to help with that, but for the night sweats and even the daytime hot flashes I once read where if you sleep in a cool room, with as little covers as possible it helps to keep them at a minimum, I tried this and it does seem to help. I still get "warm" during the day but not as bad as use to, when working in the factory in wis. the girls in the fall, winter, and early spring would be running around in t-shirts and sweatshirts and sometimes jackets, and I would be in just a t-shirt, and near boiling pt. LOL would get some strange looks esp if I asked if it was hot in there or if it was just me, LOL. But started sleeping in a cold room and it did help. So something to try if spouse doesnt' mind a cool place to sleep in

saltie -> RE: menopause and bdsm (7/9/2005 4:43:40 PM)

i was the same way, hot even though was cool or cold but that was from medicine when was on some for other reasons. have not got the hot flashes yet. but will keep that in mind for when it does start. either luckly or just not started yet. not much but moody and periods not regulear or none at all. only started about 5 months ago. guess will find out later next month when i go to the doctor. some could be from the stress and depression but none of this has happened before so dont think so. thanks for the advice.

saltie -> RE: menopause and bdsm (7/9/2005 4:57:15 PM)

just wondering if anybody going through this now or before and was talking to a dom how they brought it up. i was with one and was having a bad day so in the instant message started to complain and complain which is something i dont normally do. have not heard from him since but was only yesterday so maybe he is just busy. it is something dont put on the profile but dont want to keep from mentioning but not bring up right away but maybe should in case the one is no longer interested and do talk with somebody else. know i have to make the decison myself when/how much to say. hopefully i dont have another day like yesterday and get to the store soon to get something for moody. dont want to be at all and when i am, am good for avoiding situations i know will set me off. i dont use this or anything else as an excuse to do so then say not my fault.

Most of the herbal preparations that purport to 'safely and naturally' treat menopause rely on one of two things for effect: placebo or phytoestrogens. However, despite what their proponents would have you believe, the estrogen effect that happens from phytoestrogens is just as able to cause side effects as is premarin. If a chemical compound sits on the estrogen receptor and turns it on, it doesn't matter whether it is from a weed or a factory, you get the same effects – namely: relief of some menopausal symptoms, but also increased risk of breast cancer and vascular disease.

That said, in some women menopausal symptoms can be a big problem and cause a lot of morbidity, so it is not unreasonable treat these symptoms when the small absolute increases in risk are outweighed by the benefits of treatment. So while taking certain of these herbal preps is sometimes OK, you need to make an informed decision understanding the risks involved as well. Don't make the mistake of assuming that 'natural' = 'safe.'

On the flip side, most of the supplements that are marketed as libido aids generally have some sort of chemical effective at the androgen receptor. And again, if it actually sits on the receptor and activates it, you will get the effects and the side effects of androgens. And the side effects in women can sometimes be unpleasant. There is a good Consumer's Report article about this: “Dangerous supplements: still at large.” Consumer Reports. May 2004. In that article, one of these androgenic substances was actually listed among the 12 dangerous products you should avoid.

However, the biggest reason that I can see to avoid herbal preps and to use prescribed medications is simply that you are much more likely to get what you expect. In that same consumer's report article, they cite that in their analysis, the amount of the active ingredient in certain supplement preps varied from none to 150% of the stated amount on the bottle. Moreover, unlisted compounds are not infrequently included in certain supplements... as I recall recently there was a problem with one of the imported TCM preps containing an oral diabetes medicine.

So you certainly can take supplements if you like, however, you should choose to do so in an informed manner. I think that consumer's reports article should be required reading for anyone who wants to take a dietary supplement.

i know that something natural does not mean it is safe to use. as cant get appointment to the last day of next month and not even am able to talk to a doctor need something but dont want to take any chance either. have to try something but it might be better to just wait and hope i dont get worse. thanks.
