Maybe you are blowing too hard (hehe not talkin kink now) and that pressure caused what germies you have into the ear canal from nasal passages.

Easy on the blowing [;)]

Try using a hair dryer on its lowest setting pointed towards your ears, I use that when I have ear infections.
I have read that some folks use a drop or two of garlic oil but that is not something I am personally familiar with.
Good luck cuz earaches can truly suck!

goes to look for some garlic to squeeze....

*winks*

Being of Hungarian background, I had oil put in my ears as a kid but don't think it helped.Later I heard "Never put anything other than your own elbow into your ear"I do know that when I blow too hard I also get an infection. [;)]It's very hard not to when your nose is all stuffed up.Good luck to you and a speedy recovery.

i didn't blow hard....it was the sneezing! the sneezing i tell you! eh...at least i had my adanoids out when i was 8 so it can't get too bad....right? if only the doc hadn't been a complete dipshit and had taken my tonsils while he was in the area...

edited to add:  i would have to cut off my arm and whittle down my bones to stick my elbow in my ear and i don't think Sir would like that....so i am gonna vote no on that one

Greetings,

The ears are really sensitive, especially when you have an infection in them. Alot of times people mistake drainage from the outer ear to not realize it is an inner ear problem! Holding a blow dryer to your ear will solve the itchyness, but it can also burn your ear hairs (which you really need) I would not recomend that. Garlic I have never heard of so I cant yea or nay that one. Try cleaning out your ear with Peroxide. It bubbles and kind of burns, but it can kill what ever bacteria is there if it is outter ear. If you start getting dizzy, fever, lightheaded, nauseated or any flu like symptoms then go to the doctor, thats inner ear and can cause bad vertigo.

I also had my adnoids/tonsils removed, and maybe you should consider having ear tubes put in? Without mine sinus season is a bitch. I clean my ears 3 times a day with q-tips to stop a blockage (and cause I like the feel, I know I am wierd....)

Hope this helped,
Alyoop

Yea you would be safest going to a PCP and just getting a checkup.

I always see a doctor when it comes to ear infections- I don't know of any home remedies that actually work..even though I HATE antibiotics[&:]

Sinuses don't typically drain into the ear. If you have sinus drainage traversing up the eustachian tube into the ear, that generally indicates excessive sneezing or you're blowing your nose too hard.

If the infection has taken firm hold, you may need to resort to antibiotics (and the corresponding doctor's visit). At the very least, consider it.

However, if the doctor is just out of the question, peroxide in the ear as has been suggested already will help mitigate whatever infection is building in the ear. Additionally, a sinus rinse with an isotonic saline solution will help flush the sinuses to get rid of whatever gunk has built up there. (do NOT rinse with a hypertonic solution as this will immobilize the nasal cilia, which will make your infection get worse, not better). A tincture of echinacea will help stimulate the immune system to help contend with the infection as it is purged from your ear canal and sinus cavity.

Ears are sensitive. If your symptoms do not abate quickly (<72 hours) or if they get worse (vertigo, et cetera) make haste to the doctor for more rigorous treatment. Antibiotics don't always have to be the answer, but they are at times a damn good one.

I have heard from friends who use a netti pot to clean their sinuses that it really works.

Get well!

that thing is scary...what goes in your nose should not come out the other nostril...
anyway...update..went to the doc...have a sinus infection, got a lovely script for amoxicillin 2000 mg for 10 days and some nose spray...he looked at my throat twice...made me kind of nervous...but thanks for all the advice..i think the peroxide thing nipped the ear problem in the bud...
wonders if a clinic doc can be considered your pcp when hes there all the time...especially when he's really cool...how can  you not like a Doc named Dr Bugg....

Glad you're on the road to recovery.  Thanks for letting everyone know [sm=smile.gif]

Was that Rx for 2000 mg. or 200?  Just curious, as I've never seen a doc prescribe such a high dose.

Your doc has an interesting name.  Would you believe that we have a doctor here in town by the name of Dr. Butts?  Guess what his specialty is?  [sm=biggrin.gif]

Hisbellaluna -> RE: ear infuction (8/24/2007 12:30:57 PM)

two 500mg capsules two times a day for 10 days...
