BDSM as a Stress Reliever - 6/22/2004 1:01:28 AM

I have had some interesting thoughts over the past few days that may not be original, but I want to share this and get some of your thoughts. I was diagnosed over the weekend with supraventricular tachycardia - basically, the upper chambers of my heart are beating too fast and not allowing the lower chambers to empty properly. One of the causes of this can be stress, and with the week I had last week, I don't doubt it - although I have noticed the symptoms over the last six to eight months.

The hospital physician admitted me overnight for observation, and since I was not prepared to stay there, I didn't have magazines, laptops, hell, not even a clean pair of panties (giggles). What I did have was a lot of time to think. The doctor asked me when this all began, and I told him the dates I have given you. He asked..."what changed at that time?". My first response was that I went through a difficult divorce and work is a constant stress to me. Later, though, I thought about this more and I came to an interesting conclusion.

Since my last BDSM relationship was within my marriage and I was 100% submissive, when it ended, I did not express that part of myself, and have not really done so since...not exactly. I have had several "playtimes" but that is very different, in my opinion, to scening with a dominant partner that you are "used" to. I then recalled my first submissive relationship and remembered how much I looked forward to driving to Oklahoma to see the Dom...and the closer I got to his home, the more relaxed I felt.

My point is this...do any of you agree that BDSM activities are a release of stress for you? Do you find that when there is a lapse in these activities, your stress increases until you have the release of some sort of Dominant or submissive activity? Has it been a factor in affecting anyone's health?

Curious, isn't it?

Oh totally.

In fact I release a LOT of built up angst once I get into a submissive mode or especially if I get to play with a freaking churning mass of endorphians. Not really sure why - and to be honest - I never really looked all that deeply into it - it simply was. It works and I am worlds more at peace once that happens - just that it doesn't happen at all as much as I'd like it to, as I do get a certain state of grace after releasing a ton of endorphins or just reaching that mindset for a couple of hours or more.

I have to kinda laugh at this thread - as a friend of mine from work (who is in the lifestyle) and I constantly use the phrase 'stress relief' to indicate lifestyle activities planned or partaken of

to answer the question(s) directly, YES, BDSM activities are a release of stress for me, Yes, when there is a lapse of activities my stress levels do tend to rise, and yes, there are times I think 'stress relief' is the only thing keeping me from going totally fucking looney bins and/or going postal, thus affecting my (mental) health

apply usual caveats here

i'd have to say that it is definetly a stress reliever for me! my work is very stressful and it is very helpful to plan "play dates" and go to play parties with friends.

i used to take my work home with me, mentally, and have anxiety driven dreams....thankfully, i've not experienced that in awhile.

This past weekend was AMAZING! And, although i'm completly exhausted, i'm happy and glowing!

Cheers,

rain

So sorry.....first and foremost..... that you have had your plate so full over the last year.

However, Kiss, from my perspective you should be frazzled and having identity, lonely and just plain....... life really sucks moods. No matter how needed a divorce is, there is still the love and idealism of the "wedding" that needs to be mourned.

As for BDSM, I am most comfortable knowing that BDSM is a part of me...very important I grant you. But BDSM is not the all of me.

I am responsible for making sure my life's journey and all that real life entails is not confused with the internal part of me that walks to the beat of kinky. My lifestyle is wonderful being twisted. I am in total control over the BDSM aspect. But I am like anyone else.... I run as fast as I can on the treadmill and just hope it is in the right direction in the game of life.

It is also okay to give yourself permission to just be bonkers.

God yes it is a stress reliever. I have known this for over 20 years. There is nothing like spanking a willing partner and or flogging or whipping one either. I know they are mellowed out also when I am done and all the stresses they have been enduring seem to flow out of them from each stroke of the whip or lash or hand. Till in the end it is a pleasant afterglow for the both of us. Nothing seems to do it quite as well as BDSM activity either.

Yes, it is more than a relief to come home to the peace of mind and contentment of a compliant submissive male, ready and willing to accept my touch. My profession is also very stressful, the vanillas concept of conversation usually entails gossip and complaining. Nothing like walking into a room finding an eager, willing and HAPPY male ready to be the recepiant of my directions and kiss of my toys. Sundew
