Isolde -> RE: Edge Play and Research (7/9/2005 11:28:32 AM)

My husband and I haven't really engaged in anything risky or edgy but he's a paramedic and I'm an EMT and health & safety educator, so we both already have the background and knowledge needed to know where we're likely to need to take precautions. Something as simple as checking the circulation in fingers and toes before, during and after a bondage session comes naturally. If and when we do move on to edgier play, we would do extensive research. It's just in my nature to want to be completely prepared for almost anything that might crop up, just in case. That research is usually a combination of everything you listed -- I'll read, and ask those with experience (my mother was a paramedic as well, and a psychologist, so she's a valuable resource [;)] ), and cross-reference everything before picking and choosing what makes the most sense to me. Afterwards what doesn't work is discarded and what does is kept, and elaborated on later. Accidents are almost entirely preventable, so being as prepared as we possibly can be for both good and bad is a necessity, even outside the realm of BDSM.
