A few people have asked about the status of my laser stock project; I thought I'd add a few pics of it here and see if it causes a stir.

I'm experimenting with different stains and types of polyurethane (to make it washable and sanitary) In this particular unit, the wrist and neck inserts are not finished.  The inserts are replaceable and can be made to custom order or various standard sizes can accompany the unit when sold (i.e. designed for public dungeon use). These particular arm holes are sized for me. Sorry I couldn't get a pic of myself in it fully... nobody with a free hand to use the camera!

It's three layers of 3/8 thick 11-layer birch plywood which is a very heavy wood. The center is skeletonized to reduce the weight. It's cut with an industrial laser that gives it design tolerances of less then 0.002".  Each arm can be opened separatly and secured separately - this allows for continuity of scene as one wrist can be released and bound in a different manner before the second arm is released.

Did you pattern it after Martin's aluminum designs?  It looks great.  I would love to see a version made from exotic hardwoods.

It wasn't really patterned after anything, in fact, the double-hinge design was a fluke (okay.. a mistake) - it was origionally supposed to be a single hinge, but when I flipped the design in my CAD program I neglected to delete the second hinge.. then suddenly thought this would be better this way.

Helplessfetish - that's as awesome as it is impressive.  Nice to see people with engineering skills putting them to kinky purposes.

Wow, that is a thing of beauty! Got any more of them industrial laser-thingies hanging around that you want to get rid of?

i'm curious, how much does the finished product weigh? i really *like* heavy gear for myself- my own "free" stocks are 12" x 4" x 4' pine- and even without the skeletonization i wouldn't expect that to weigh much.  Must be rigid as hell for the weight, though!

It's nice to see more oval wrist cutouts. Can they be indexed, or are they fixed parallel to the join?

My suggestion for lining would be neoprene backed by Velcro so that it can be removed for cleaning... i've also used liquid Latex/Plasticote/tool dip with some success, although not on wood finishes.

Also, have you given any thought to adding attachment points to it? The skeleton holes would work pretty well for rope, but i'd be concerned about damaging the finish over time through abrasion. i just can't think of any other way to implement fixtures without losing the all-wood finish.

Just as an aside, one thing i'd love to see, which i wouldn't think would require much modification from your existing programming, is a posture collar cut from layers... basically a stand-alone neck insert, but 4" or so tall, with its own hinge and lock mechanism... If you're ever looking for a new project, feel free to drop me a line, because i'd be interested in commissioning something like that.

Cheers,

...dave

petdave; actually I do already have a posture collar setup for this exact stock.  You see, the replacable inserts are made up of 3 layers of 5/8 wood for a total of 1 7/8 total thickness stock.... I have a replacment neck segment that adds 3 more layers above - making for 3 3/4 rise... or 4 3/8 with a fourth additional layer.

other things I was working on:
- removable head cage - leave the wearer in the dark...
- 4 hole stock/spreader, legs/arms, all interchangable
- I horizontal mount, like a classic stock that converts into a spanking horse

As far as giving away my laser... there's only a handfull in the country with the power of the one I used, so obviously... it's not mine... I don't have over a million dollars to buy one, but there are ones on the market that will do the job for a mere $200K.

I'm looking for a metal guy who can add mounts to the sides with greater ease then I, and I'm also intereted in finding somebody who can take a look at adding leather to the wrist and neck components... this is s challenge because of the functionality of it but I'm sure it's not insurmountable.

... I'm also looking for a girlfriend/mistress to help me test it!

Yep, lexan was an accident but the R&D folks just couldn't pass it up, had to sell and make stuff.  Aren't ya' glad?
