I've seen this on every board I've participated on. It is inevitable those prone to obsessive-compulsive behaviour will pick me as a target.

This type of belief is never going to allow a person to ever change their own behavior that makes them a target.  Since he lumps everyone that attacks him in a singular dysfuntional group.

First... I found in annoying

Then.. I found him amusing....

now... I just pity him and soon I will discard him as lost in his sad world.

Unless you look a the track records of attackers-and see that he may quite possibly be correct.

Cumslt4U -> RE: "Love Reign O'er Me" (9/1/2007 7:24:13 AM)

Imperfections is what makes us unique and beautiful. I cannot love a person in parts, and the imperfections is what I tend to love the most.

You guys might also consider just leaving a topic alone if it offends you so much.

What you are witnessing is the "whatever Bob says must be wrong" syndrome.

Get used to it, amongst the obsessed it is their favourite pastime.

I know. It's always fun to feel better about yourself by tearing others down. Very mature.

<shrug>

If you've seen this on every board then have you ever considered that it's you and not everyone else that has a communication problem.

In the past I have, but I stopped worrying about that some time ago.

Too many sane/stable types who write me privately so as not to make themselves targets of the obsessive-compulsive crowd.

And just too much evidence of the irrational vitriol spewed by the obsessive-compulsive crowd.

I mean, trying to compare me with that guy in "Silence of the Lambs" is an excellent example of what I mean, Aileen.

Just as asking me to put you on block, after telling me I'm a "coward" to use it, only to ask a question of me after you've asked me to block you ... classic for the obsessive-compulsive types.

Arguing for the One True (Selfish) Way because I've presented an essay on selflessness, another excellent example of how deep into tunnel-vision the obsessive-compulsive crowd has fallen, blind to the fact that many others in bdsm consider themselves selfless, or that selflessness is a desirable quality.

Then comes the furious back-peddling as they realize (thanks to me pointing it out) that they've not targetted me, but a group of valid bdsmers of which I am one.

Eventually, as ths kind of silliness wears on their reputations, they very loudly proclaim they are not going to respond to me, a silence that never lasts.

And thus the cycle of obsessive-complusion continues.

The only new feature to this all-too-familiar cycle is the block button, which I find rather useful.

Nothing like the obsessive-complusive parading their lack of self-control and need to publicly indulge in non-consensual verbal abuse solely for the audience, yet never getting through the block to me.

That's why I have very little respect for bdsm 'communities', as they attract the obsessive-compulsives like honey draws flies.

bandit25 -> RE: "Love Reign O'er Me" (9/1/2007 7:26:37 AM)

Bob, Stephann quite clearly stated that "A promise 'till death do we part', to me, trumps any desire for any sort of 'healthy' emotional relationship" meaning that those vows are of the utmost importance to him...unless I'm wrong on the meaning of "trump".  In other words, he is saying that he ALSO WOULD HAVE STAYED WITH HIS TERMINALLY ILL WIFE.

Could it be that the other posters are expressing their own different points of view rather than attacking the OP?  Given that these are discussion groups it is natural and healthy to have opposing and dissenting opinions as well as those that agree.  If a person is feeling personally attacked for the majority of their posts on an internet group I would gently suggest that it may be time for them to switch off their computer for a while, grow a thicker skin or make more use of the block button. Careful Rafe.

They'll target you for statements like that.

I've been battling their kin every time I visit a board for the past 20-odd years.

I know what I'm up against.

I don't care Bob,they just give me attention and help me get what I want. They just can't quite grasp the concept that the opposite of love is not hate-but indifference.

I looked back through thier postings-try doing the same. Patterns repeat. It will be interesting to see if they begin stalking and attacking me now-It will prove my point if they do.

It is understandable to feel that way. If this is the first time you've ever witness a gang of obsessive-compulsive types target a single individual then it might be one conclusion you'd draw.

I, on the other hand, have seen this dynamic far too often to not recognize the pattern.

A gang of people gang up on one individual, hurl every form of abuse they can think of, and try to present themselves as responsible members of the community for doing it.

It's hilarious when you think about it.

I find them useful , as they typify the kind of people new subs should avoid. Who wants to be involved with the obsessive-compulsive who see nothing wrong with publicly engaging in non-consensual verbal abuse and require a gang of bullies to bring down one person?

LaTigresse -> RE: "Love Reign O'er Me" (9/1/2007 7:43:02 AM)

Either Bob has a new love or an alternate identity....... how touching.

Stephann -> RE: "Love Reign O'er Me" (9/1/2007 7:43:04 AM)

And if she'd been "just a partner", what then, Stephann? She'd deserved to be dumped for developing cancer?

The more you try to draw distinctions, the more heartless you appear.

Depends on the circumstances.  I wouldn't dump a girl for getting cancer, but if I'd only known her two months, I wouldn't have felt compelled to commit four years of watching her die slowly just because she's dying.

I think it rather obvious to anyone familiar with english that you certainly made clear you were only selfishly interested in the good times, and had no intentions of sticking around for anything bad.

Relationships are built on the good times.  They're forged stronger by the bad times.  You don't know anything of me or my life, so I suggest you refrain from cramming both feet in your mouth.

I am sure that is true for those who are selfishly interested in their own pleasure and enjoyment, and to hell with their partner/spouse/whatever.

Nonetheless, your statement is manifestly untrue given that this is what my wife and I did for ten years, until cancer took her.

There are people who are selfish.  It's part of life.  It's not fair, certainly.  Yet healthy relationships aren't built on throwing one's life away; they're based on building a life, together.

Stephan

They will certainly do that for you.

Until they realize that's what they're doing and try to bite their tongues.

But rest assured, their obsessive-compulsive disorder will never let them remain silent for long.

They always come back for more.

God It must suck to get old....I am a selfless practitioner of the art of bdsm....I heal the self esteem issues found in women....I am a healer.  I strive for perfection.  I am selfless.

It's nice when others compliment you....Unfortunaltely what does it say about someone who continually compliments themselves?....Continually points out their own attributes...Because if left to time and chance they might very well go unnoticed....Couldn't have that, now could we , Bob?

I am the great and powerful Odd. (o.ooooooo)

Look why don't you correspond with the beautiful selfless women who have sent you private messages...Why bring your trash to this curb?  Yep, there are women who will respond to your schtick...It's rather amazing that a few wackos actually respond to mine...Stupid people.  By touting that people seek you out in private by no means justifies your existence...They probably all were sucking on a scatsicle whilst they were typing away.

I can't imagine a woman of substance buying what you're selling.
