yummers.

All those useless carbs are impairing your ability to spell. [X(]

came4U -> RE: Edwards wants to force you to see a doctor (9/3/2007 9:07:45 AM)

Ha! If I spell badly, it is because I am tired, not because of carbs.

<tosses pizza dough at level and blinds him with goo [sm=smile.gif]

Level -> RE: Edwards wants to force you to see a doctor (9/3/2007 9:38:24 AM)

Well, I have to point out that the insulin surges caused by.......... *looks both ways...... then whispers.......* carbohydrates....... does indeed cause one to be tired.

Hmm, goo. [8|]

Celeste43 -> RE: Edwards wants to force you to see a doctor (9/3/2007 9:43:59 AM)

You can eat all the junk food you want, have a stroke and spend 16 years in a nursing home IF you have the insurance to cover it. Because if you aren't paying for it, then every other taxpayer is. And that's the bottom line.

If most people would stop eating carbs, then health (and the related health care) would be vastly improved.

Carbs are not the enemy for every person.  Stop painting nutrition with that wide brush.  [:D] If everyone would eat a well-balanced diet, health and related health care would be vastly improved.  A couple points gathered from recent articles:  Most theories and practices regarding healthcare are based on tests on male rats, mice, etc.  Scientists are now discovering that many of these theories and practices simply do not apply to the female and have begun to test female rats, mice, etc. in addition to their male counterparts.  They never wanted to before because the female system is more complicated.

.....promote the general welfare.....

First, that phrase is in the preamble of the Constitution. It is not a specific power granted to the Federal Government but rather part of a description of the purpose of the Constitution. In other words, it is in the general welfare to have a Constitution.

Secondly, it says promote... not ensure... the general (not each and every specific individual's) welfare. People who tote out this phrase in defense of more government power fail to realize (or do they?) that they render the whole concept of limited and enumerated powers meaningless (the same goes for the people who tote out the commerce clause). It gives the government carte blanche to do anything because anything can be twisted into "promoting the general welfare."

One could say that it would promote the general welfare if we rounded up all Arab-Americans and kicked them out of the country. Does that mean the government now has that power?

Americans are too fat. It would certainly promote the general welfare if we banned fatty foods.

Heavy metal music causes kids to sacrifice the neighbors cat in Satanic rituals and to commit suicide. It would promote the general welfare if the government banned heavy metal music.

And least we forget... some Americans don’t go to the doctor as often as they should. It would be in the general welfare if the government forced them too.

Need I go on?

I have no problem with the government promoting the general welfare but I fail to see how that translates into micromanage every individual's life.

Edited for spalling mistakes.

****SIGHS****

yes you need to , the deal is any constitutional lawyer worth his salt for the socialized healthcare side is going to use that for intimating intent.  Then he or she will grab any old amendment and hammer it to mean life, welfare, promote, liberty common defense----

Your counter arguments councillors?   I can be pretty sure such laws would not be found unconstitutional.

But after the laws get passed (another issue) we will deal with that.

They don't make me tired, but my kitten keeping me up all night does.

And I process all foods that enter my body quite well, tyvm.  Never sick, never overweight or underweight, never a problem with my blood-sugar; even while carrying 4 children to term.

G'head, eat bread, it is good for you. Don't forget to break it with someone you love.

Most carbohydrates are junk. The only ones I would advise anyone to eat are those found in vegetables, and most fruit (if that person doesn't have insulin resistance issues on the latter). Are they tasty? Oh yes...... [sm=hair.gif]

But yes, if people ate better, health would be improved.

All good and important points.

We'll have to agree to disagree about bread, but I wholeheartedly agree with dining with those you love, makes whatever is on your plate better.

came4U -> RE: Edwards wants to force you to see a doctor (9/3/2007 10:25:24 AM)

Then make soya bread.

carbs pfttt.  People don't get fat eating carbs, people get unhealthy or fat from eating 9lbs of it per day.

Level -> RE: Edwards wants to force you to see a doctor (9/3/2007 10:35:48 AM)

And why do they eat "9 lbs of it a day"? Because carbs create cravings, and they don't fill you up. They're mostly empty calories.

Carbs can indeed make people fat.

came4U -> RE: Edwards wants to force you to see a doctor (9/3/2007 10:44:57 AM)

why?

once again, back to the topic of self-control.

Why should a government have to enforce a yearly physical on adults?

Do they believe that their citizens are too stupid to know what to eat, how much to eat and how often they eat?

of course they do. There is a crisis, a health crisis and instead of managing the problem from the top down, they want to micro-manage the consumer AFTER they have eaten garbage tossed together in a package by the very corporations that they give tax credits to.

The crisis is that obviously if the consumer is smarter that these companies wouldn't have the market on 'food choices' and the consumer would have actual purchase power again.

Why a government doesn't trust or educate their own people to eat properly, push anti-smoking lobbyists to front row of the assembly instead of taking dirty-money from tobacco firms is in your hands.

Sad place you live in.  If you ask me, this is a wakeup call to consider rights vs privillege to be living in a free country that grows it's own sustainable food and drinking water and the citizens choose to abuse the basic genetics of a simple apple into apple pie that is loaded with 32 chemicals.

Why should a government have to enforce a yearly physical on adults?

We haven't determined that they should.

Do they believe that their citizens are too stupid to know what to eat, how much to eat and how often they eat?

Now, why would they think that? Twinkie, anyone?

of course they do. There is a crisis, a health crisis and instead of managing the problem from the top down, they want to micro-manage the consumer AFTER they have eaten garbage tossed together in a package by the very corporations that they give tax credits to.

Some consumers will never be "smarter", and some will never care. I do wish we had more choices in our food. I drive quite a ways every few weeks in order to buy grass-fed beef and organic poultry; I try to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak.

Let's not forget, the genetics of most of those apples are abused before it ever gets close to Aunt Boopsy's kitchen.

My apologies, I didn't notice the "most".  Although, we can't really say most, can we?  We can say some.  There are good carbs out there.  They just aren't found in white bread and snack foods, white rice or potatoes!

No apology needed, good lady.

I would say "most" however, and would say again that veggies and most fruit are the only sources of carbs that don't reek of empty calories, IMO, and if you have insulin issues (doesn't even mean that you're diabetic), then leaving off the fruit may give more advantage than not.

Level -> RE: Edwards wants to force you to see a doctor (9/3/2007 11:45:58 AM)

Before I go; if I come across as trying to ram my thoughts down anyone's throat, that isn't my intent. Obviously, I think what I say has value [8|], and I've spent hour upon hour doing research and studying, but we all have our own beliefs.

So there! [:D]

Don't go, then. Plain and simple.

Send him to Ontario !!!! then maybe we can get some  extra family doctors here , and not be forced to wait 2 to 4 years without a family doctor if ours quits or retires , for those  without a family doctor they have no access to preventative care  only emergency care.

No emergency room  or walk in clinc is going to do paps or physicals  breast exams etc unless there are existing signs of a problem by then likely too late, much rather be forced to go than be left with no  access to these services if I do want
