I do not wear leather (so perhaps I shouldn't be posting here!) but I do love gloves. Nonstretch. I wear either stretch satin or nonstretch fabric gloves. These latter used to be easier to find, and most of the ones I've found appear to be vintage - the gusseting and shaping is more elaborate as there is little stretch. I sort of like the angular effect the gusseting gives around the fingers; it can be very decorative. However, as they're usually vintage the thread is weak, and I have large hands for a woman, so I do spend a lot of time repairing them. Stretch Satin. Satin gloves are always less practical than I imagine, but I do love the look, although it's not particularly elegant on me. It gives a lovely finished look to an outfit. If I am wearing gloves, I usually wear either wristlet or up-to-the-elbow; while in theory I love over-the-elbow, in practice I have large enough biceps (have always liked biceps, too) that the effect is visually unpleasing. The problem with satin gloves is that, to keep a smooth line (gusseting is definitely not the fashion now) there is hardly any seam allowance in the fingers and a lot of the gloves nowadays seem to be made very cheaply; it's hard to find a new pair that doesn't require a little stitchery. PVC. I had a pair of PVC/patent gloves from the Black Market here in Chicago of which I was quite fond, but they finally died after 7 or 8 years of service. They looked nice with a PVC corset and patent boots. Latex. As I worked for several years in the lab as a grad student, and then for a while in the food industry, latex gloves don't strike me as sexy, they strike me as "I must be at work." (Or as those practical things I put on when I'm about to get covered in body fluids.) I splurged on an up-to-the-elbow pair in latex, and fit is an issue; fitting the hands and the arms both is apparently an issue with one-size-fits-all. And I have yet to get the damn things polished properly; spraying Armor-All was not very satisfactory, though I've been told since that the wipes work well. I'm encouraged, as while these gloves don't do a lot for me, if I can someday get them properly polished, they would look smashing with a rubber outfit.
