BDsbabygirl -> Douching (9/8/2007 7:20:59 AM)

I know that one is not supposed to douche too often lest they mess up the pH balance in the vagina - or whatever that risk is - but I'm also wondering something else --

Does douching make you drier? Does it make it harder for you to get wet during activity?

I tend to douche before my Dom and I play just because I am hypersensitive about my smell and taste; I recently got a clean bill of health from my Doctor so I know I don't have anything, it's just how I am. But I've noticed that it tends to dry me out and, worse, it's hard to get really good and wet during play. So I've started douching at least 12 hours in advance when I know we're gonna play, thereby giving my hotbox time enough to start producing natural lube but not so far in advance that I start to feel unsanitary again.

I've found a good enough solution so I'm not asking for advice, I'm just curious as to whether douching dries anyone else out or if it's just a peculiarity of my body.

I don't recall it ever having that effect on me personally when I used to do it before two doctors advised me to stop the practice for the reason you stated.  Changing the vaginal pH sets you up for infection.  Douching also inhibits your body's natural mechanical defense by inhibiting the vagina's ability to flush out invading harmful bacteria.  I am also very picky about hygiene, and have found that washing the entire area (mons, outer and inner labia, vaginal and perianal regions) with soap and water to be a much better solution when it comes to feeling clean.  As you probably know, the sweat glands in that area are different from the ones that cover most of our bodies and the sweat produced from them leaves a distinctive odor, so washing the genital region with a mild soap and water helps alieviate any concern regarding hygiene.

I believe it does make many women drier. It had that effect on me. Sort of like when I've had sex in the swimming pool or bathtub. Water just plays hell with vaginal slipperiness.

Instead of douching, I use one of those hand held shower head things to spray directly on my goodies. It washes all the outer bits, and slightly within the opening, but does not fully rinse out the vagina, so it leaves the normal environment alone. Plus, it makes me feel really clean and fresh, and feels REALLY nice when the shower is dialed to pulsate.

Yep, what she said.  If you douche too early after sex it can also help you get pregnant.
No idea about the wetness versus dry idea.

(I can't believe I am answering this question)
Only because the topic is so joked about in a High School locker room type way.

BDsbabysgirl -It is an honest and brave thing of you to ask. Yes, it will make a woman drier. It is mostly the chemical, commerical packaged advertised in silly ways... kind that is drying, irritating, unbalances the natural flora of a healthy body part.

Could it be that the normal pheromone laced mild scent that is natural for a woman makes you self concious? A clean and healthy..you know what ..does have a light musky, earthy fragrance. Clean and light, mild.

As others recomended;  I too like a hand held, detachable shower head. Gives a great back massage and is good for any gender to be really clean all..under.

If you feel best washing internally- try mixing your own formula of a little white vinegar mixed with lots of water. It keeps the proper PH and is much gentler and better than that chemical flowery stuff.

And I guess that only works if you don't have sex less than twelve hours apart or ever want to have sex spontaneously.

How often should I douche? Is it okay to douche? A douche is a stream of liquid directed into the vaginal cavity for cleansing purposes. Some women use douching to feel cleaner or to help remedy an odor or discharge from the vagina.
Douching is not recommended for women because it is not needed for cleansing of the vagina and can actually result in vaginal infections or pelvic infections. Why? Douching washes out the normal “good” bacteria in the vagina and may disrupt the normal pH balance, causing growth of germs or organisms like yeast or bacteria. There are no health benefits whatsoever to be gained from routine douching. Douching may be harmful if it delays care for sexually transmitted or vaginal infections.

It is very normal for the vagina and vaginal discharge to have a slight odor. Women need to promptly report an abnormal odor or definite change in the vaginal odor or vaginal discharge to their health care provider. The vagina cleans itself naturally; and normal hygiene with washing externally is all that is needed for vaginal health.

Personally... I do NOT douch, the last thing I need is to screw up that part of my body, I have enough problems and issues. The vagina is self-cleaning, if you take regular showers and baths and avoid perfumed powders, etc in that area, you should be fine.

HelenaTroy -> RE: Douching (9/12/2007 8:05:35 PM)

Douching is bad. Douching is wrong. If anyone has ever made you feel bad about yourself and told you to douche, that person IS a douche.

Corporations have been making money for decades making women feel dirty and bad about themselves and their vaginas - and to convince them to buy yet another product that we don't need - AND it's harmful to our bodies. Imagine that. It was probably invented by a man. Our vaginas are not dirty. They're perfect just the way they are.

Unless you notice something abnormally different - there is most likely nothing wrong with your vagina.

Douching also makes one more susceptible to STDs, sterility and cervical cancer.

I hate the fact that women are still being victimized by this kind of stuff. This is the year 2007.

ClubMix -> RE: Douching (9/14/2007 1:52:09 AM)

I`m always confused by people who dislike the smell/taste of pussy. Why would you order the fish if you didn`t want it to taste like fish?

NightWindWhisper -> RE: Douching (9/14/2007 6:00:54 PM)

A healthy cunt can have many smells, and these smells can change as a woman's hormones changes during her cycles.  A "fishy odor," is not normal.  Though at times it can be quite normal for the vagina to taste or smell "sweet, acerbic (biting) cloying, or other definitions of smell.  A woman's vagina is a "self-cleaning organ."

I believe that there are pheromones produced by a woman's genitalia—and there is actually a communicative effect.  However in today's "keep it clean, dry and sterile" world, sometimes the cultural effect is that sometimes the person "going down," expects well—nothing.  Nothing is like licking the back of your hand—most cunts don't taste or smell like the back of your hand—thank goodness.  But each woman has her own taste and smell—and as my niece (who is lesbian) once put it "whatever it is—it becomes 'home.'" However, while vaginal mucus can change and indeed does (as any knowledgeable dominant knows as cycles change—to his/her advantage) vaginal discharge should not smell foul or fishy.  Healthy cunts do not taste or smell like old fish.

If they do most likely the womas has Bacterial vaginalis—usually the culprit is Gardnerella vaginalis (Gv).  If after having intercourse (male-female) the vagina smell very foul and fishy the culprit is almost certainly Gv.  Why?  Because the alkaline pH of semen causes the release of chemicals called amines—and guess what they smell like—yup—fish.  Vaginal discharge may be grayish and it may be worse during the menses.  Generally it's pretty benign—however it can be associated with IUD and other STI's (Sexually Transmitted Infections) but not always.  When in doubt—get it checked out by your practioner.  A practitioner will take a swab of vaginal mucus and add a drop of potassium hydroxide (an alkaline) and "sniff it."  There are other tests.  It can be treated with antibiotics—and though (I think it's controversial) if recurrent the male needs to be treated also.  While he is asymptomatic—the both of you can "ping-pong" it back and forth.

BV accounts for about 30-70% of all infectious vaginal conditions.

Trichomonas vaganalis is a protozoa (less like a bacteria-more like a parasite).  It too can produce a fishy amine odor—but usually the symptomology is more severe with burning and itching and often with a lot of frothy discharge, time to see your practitioner.  Other causes of bad smell and discharge can be Chlalymidia trachamotis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Gonnorhea).  So, when in doubt—check it out.

Candida albicans is a fungus that is commensal (usually there) but occasionally the body lets it run amuck for one reason or another and it can multiply creating a white curdy discharge that smells like bread yeast.  It is harmless—unless it gets truly out of whack.  Over the counter meds can treat it—but if it persists see your practitioner.

BDsbabygirl—I suspect that you hit in right on the head.  You're a victim of the bland-tasteless-cunt syndrome (BTS syndrome).  The cure is to hand this to your dominant: "Tell this girl how wonderful her cunt tastes and smells and order her to never douche again."

Consider that Napolean used to write to Joshephine, the message delivered by runner so that she got it a few days before he got home from a campaign.  The message: "I'll be there in three days—don't bathe." (True story)

ClubMix -> RE: Douching (9/19/2007 1:02:16 AM)

Well, I guess that joke missed it`s mark entirely. Nevermind.

MaamJay -> RE: Douching (9/19/2007 4:35:15 AM)

As a Domme who is moving more into bisexuality ... I HATE the taste of soap! Reminds Me of having My mouth washed out with it when I said a naughty word as a child. Give Me good old natural pussy juice any day!

I used to have a "complex" about My taste and smell, courtesy of hubby 1 who didn't like mine but purported to like that of other women. I found out from some of his other lovers later that was bullshit, he didn't like going down on them either! I have found that changing My diet and limiting added salt (for blood pressure) as had the added bonus of making My juices less salty, so their prevailing taste is sweet and spicy and musky. I love that, one of my favourite things now is to lick Master's fingers after He has fingered me or to give Him passionate kisses when He has been down there (yep, finally got a Man who loves em too!). And My fem sub isn't complaining about them either!

So do try to chill out, try the diet change, sample your own (at least sniff your finger if you can't manage to taste), and try not to be a victim to this over-sterile super-sanitary culture which has caused far more problems than it has cured!

Btw, the dietary change works for men too in terms of reducing the saltiness of their cum ... now that's a bonus!

MaamJay -> RE: Douching (9/19/2007 4:37:03 AM)

PS ... OP ... Ask your Dom what He would prefer to taste ... I doubt He will say "soap"!

And as to the joke ClubMix ... well a shame you picked fish as that is a criticism often levelled LOL! But I got it! [;)]

honestsub4real -> RE: Douching (9/30/2007 6:29:55 PM)

medically speaking, using a douche is not necessary or safe, your body cleanses itself, there is no reason to use one.  Please go to the mayo clinic website.
