I've heard this term many times over the years... in movies, in conversation. I wonder exactly what it means?...Or can it mean different things to different people? Is it when you love someone so much your heart aches from the enormity of it? Or is it when your soul aches  because you are a part? ...and when you are to together its so right even nature its self brightens all around you? and yet there is something...you cant put your finger on it but its there...like seeing something out of the corner of your eye and you just couldn't make it out... Then you realize that your heart doesn't just ache because of the intensity of the love you feel...but it also aches because you cant really HAVE that love...The love thats like this awesome shimmering sand...its beautiful, and warm, you study it because you never knew there was this kind of beauty.  No matter how hard you try and hold on to it, this beautiful sand just  keeps slipping through your hand. Or so it seems sometimes.
Geez...perhaps I'm a bit melancholy this evening....

Well, when someone is star crossed, it essentially means they were cursed from birth astrologically.

Thus, lovers who are star crossed, were essentially doomed from day one, regardless of what they might have done.

Like all good literature, it will mean different things to different people.

The phrase itself comes from the chorus' opening monologue in Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet", and describes the collision of the dream of their love with the reality of their families' hatred.

Ah...so it could mean that you can in fact meet your "star crossed lover" but the relationship never really comes to fruition?

Easily.  Considering the outcome of Romeo and Juliet...I'd say that's the best way to interpret the phrase.

i do not know maybe soulmates also come into that play .also i do know that is true love. But in this day and age there is so much to destory that beauty. It is hard to hold on to you have fight a like team to aganst the world. They always say you will know the right one that is why keep the bs out of the ds yep. we get lost along the way to what ir right. by instant gratification. Often blinding us to the greatness that lay before us. Such is desteny

I'm currently in a relationship that I know is doomed from the start, but this is something that we both have to do.  It's in the blood, we share too much and the only way to resolve this attraction is to engage in it.  She's married, I'm married (and yes, both out spouses are aware), and she's flying down here this Christmas for about two weeks.  Neither of us is willing to leave our spouse, so everything we have will be done in that brief two week period.

Star-crossed?  Yeah.  I think so.  Still, I'd rather have that two weeks with her than to never have known she existed.

Interesting thread....I once had a relationship that I would classify under this dept....

She was a beautiful woman...Almost perfect.  But for some reason I just couldn't stop fucking other women....A good friend once asked, "Whatever happened to Sarah? She was smart, sexy as Hell and very cool to hang out with...What went wrong?"  I looked him square in the eye...as a tear formed in my own and replied, "I dunno man, for some reason it just didn't work out...I guess we were simply star crossed...It's weird."
