What's up with not getting the acronym?

BDDSSMMSK would have been a really cumbersome acronym, so it's shortened.
It still refers to the same things: bondage, discipline, D/s, S/M, M/s and kink.
Perhaps you mean you, like the rest of us, prefer the subset you like?

Health,
al-Aswad.

It's a website to make BDSM acceptable to the fundies and evangelical Christians who are kinky but don't want to admit it. {shrug} If it works and people are happy, go for it.

Just my thoughts........

I read over the site for awhile about a year or so ago, but it was too tame for us. [;)]

ThinkingKitten -> RE: Taken in Hand (9/15/2007 1:36:01 PM)

FR: I fell over that site quite a while ago, and can say that there are articles there, and posted opinions that resonate very deeply with me. It all helps (as do the forums on CM) as I try and pick my way through the minefield of life.

velvetears -> RE: Taken in Hand (9/15/2007 2:17:57 PM)

i found the site over a year ago and it has some good and bad to it, as all sites do i suppose.  They try a little too hard to differentiate themselves from bdsm and will resolutely tell you they use spanking as strictly punishment - a right afforded the HoH and the wives claims vehemently they do not enjoy it but understands it is what they "need".... sorry i don't buy that, they just have a hang up admitting they enjoy it and need to rationalize it.  There is one poster there... louise i believe is her name and she is on every darn thread and she gets a little too preachy to me.  Some of their articles annoy me.  Some i learn from.

RaynaSub -> RE: Taken in Hand (9/15/2007 2:57:53 PM)

What a wonderful site, I am really enjoying it.
As with anything else, I take what I want from it, and pass on the rest.
So far, I agree with about 80% of what I have read there, and that is good
enough for me.

As for: "They specifically differentiate their lifestyle from BDSM in that it is a certain type of dynamic rather than just 'bondage play' and is more about D/s than BDSM."

.. this snippet seems to betray an unwillingness on their part to acknowledge that BDSM is a very broad term which goes miles beyond bondage and/or play.

In fact it fails to notice that "DS" is nestled ever so comfortably in the middle of "BDSM".

I don't disagree with you in general, but the mere existence of the letters "DS" together doesn't mean that they stand for Dominance & Submission. The term BDSM was derived from putting B&D (Bondage and Discipline) together with S&M (Sadism & Masochism). The implied divider is between the D and S, as in BD/SM. Domination and Submission were not a part of the original definition.

You can argue that the BDSM umbrella has expanded to include D/s, and I wouldn't argue against that. But that's not what the letters D and S really represent.

i have discovered this site YEARS ago.  It's one of my most favorite sites and i NEVER get sick of reading it.  i learn from it every time i go in there and sometimes i learn different things from reading the same things over and over again.  i actually use this site as a reference point to some Doms that i have been interested in and most of them have enjoyed it very much.  i relate to it very well and it says a lot of things that i  may have a hard time explaining myself sometimes.   If i am not able to find a Master/slave relationship i at least hope to find a D/s type of relationship with this site in mind.

I couldn't have said it better myself.  I think it's a great site, I personally discovered it about 4 years ago.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. It is, in my opinion, one of those sites that paints the same activities (spanking, etc.) in a way that is "for her own good" and "within the context of a loving relationship" specifically to make it seem lighter, fluffier, cuddly-er, and IMO less hot, than the standard bdsm practices mentioned on sites like CM.

I think it's great if it works for any given couple but it's not my thing. BDSM is the way I am oriented. It makes my dick hard and it fulfills my spirit. It's not because I believe that women are better than men or men better than women or one gender inherently dominant (the way God intended, lol) or that my partner needs to be "taken in hand" in order to keep the most peaceful household possible.  Nope, for us it's all about what we get out of it physically, mentally, emotionally, and yes even spiritually which makes us feel whole, real, alive...no excuses! You show me the taken in hand people and I'll show you "spanking only night" at the SM club where you're not allowed to use anything other than a hand or hairbrush because you'll frighten away all the housewives and husbands who are afraid to admit that they are doing what they do because they find it fun, fulfilling, and arousing - and not because it's the way nature intended.  I know this view is going to be soooo unpopular, but there you go.

What makes you think it's misunderstood?

BDSM incorporates more than just M/s.  A lot more.  It's not "M/s or D/s or sadomasochism or scening or.." so much as it is the combination of them.  So, yeah; BDSM involves my "kink".  The TakenInHand bit, though, is more specifically what appeals to me; therefore, it's far superior.  (I'm concerned that "vastly superior [to me]" may be confusing for some.  It's far better- for me- because it's what I'm into- not to say that BDSM is inniately inferior.)
