cuddleheart50 -> RE: record! (9/15/2007 2:41:13 PM)

Most of the time, I have it minimized in the corner, and I am not even on here....I am outside or working around the house....I stop by from time to time and post a few.

unfair poll since I'm here on and off all day while doing homework and other random things....sitting without moving from the screen?  bah...you've got me beat by a lot *S*

RaynaSub -> RE: record! (9/15/2007 3:22:33 PM)

There are many times I may be logged on here for several hours.
But I am also on the phone and usually doing something else also.
Does parking on here, while doing other things count?

LeMis -> RE: record! (9/15/2007 3:28:12 PM)

I don't know how to answer this poll correctly since I do like many others here have already answered, "I am outside or working around the house....I stop by from time to time and post a few", " There are many times I may be logged on here for several hours.
But I am also on the phone and usually doing something else also. Does parking on here, while doing other things count?".

Sorry to have to borrow the other's answers, but they work for me as well, lol.

I have to pretty much ditto all the other posters..but if I had to crunch the numbers..it may add up to a total of 2 hours...Tempting

chellekitty -> RE: record! (9/15/2007 4:53:27 PM)

unfortunately lately i have been spending inordinate amounts of time here because of seizures and the doc saying that i can't drive (and legally i can't drive either...) and this is better than sitting in front of the idiot box (tv) and due to money problems i haven't been able to buy a lot of books....sooooo...ya'll are stuck with me...and when i talk to live human beings (when they get home from work or school or whatever and on weekends - chosen family is out of town and i just got dropped off back at home by another friend who picked me up for a late lunch and bio-family just left) and i inevitably say "so i know i have been spending an inordinate amount of time there, but there was this post on the collarme boards..." and it usually leads to a really good conversation....but...yea...

e01n -> RE: record! (9/15/2007 5:46:08 PM)

I often flirt from machine to machine while at work. I have the SQL server, the office admin station and my laptop all out and running at my desk. The laptop is running personal stuff and has my personal, non-work email up as well as CM. The rest is all business.... I have grep scanning aria's output as it refreshes certain threads, looking for posts by certain people.... which then triggers a "ping!" that's similar to my IM ping, yet different.

Yeah, waaaaay too much of a geek...

chellekitty -> RE: record! (9/15/2007 6:20:39 PM)

i understood that, but i didn't...tell me how to do that in non geek words...please...please...

e01n -> RE: record! (9/15/2007 8:00:33 PM)

unfortunately, if you aren't understanding standard output and piping, I'm not sure how to explain how to do it in a "non-geek" way...

Basically, I tell a program to scan the boards for certain user names or topics, turn them into an "RSS feed" (not really, but that's the closest most people get to seeing a string stream), and then make a noise when I get a hit... that's WHAT it does. HOW it does it is the geekery...

chellekitty -> RE: record! (9/15/2007 8:04:57 PM)

no, i understood that part....i meant explain the programing part...the how, not the what silly
