I never really thought about this until afterwards, but I did something silly at work recently.

I asked for the Secretary DvD in our work Christmas gift exchange. Actually, I asked for any one of three different movies, and that happened to be one of them.

So at our Christmas party, sure enough that was the movie the person who drew my name purchased for me. Who drew my name?

My boss. My FEMALE boss. To say the least, I was embarrassed, especially after she told me it looked so good that she had to rent the video herself. *knowing smile*

That's where it ends. Nothing happened beyond that, but it was still pretty memorable.

Yay! i absolutely adore this movie! And she's gorgeous!

Oy--I hated the trailer. Now I haven't seen the movies, but I have deep angst about accepting wiitwd and whenever a line is crossed, it terrifies the hell out of me. I don't think it makes sense to try and imply (even if it is based on a true story, which I doubt) that if you end up going into a consentual relationship like this, there is a deep dark underworld that will find out and they will come and get you.

Frankly, I think this is playing into a lot of the anti-sex narratives that have been in our society for so long. Gays and lesbians were associated with death. If you get into S&M, then you will end up in human trafficking. Bull shit. Human trafficking preys on people without economic privilege, mostly people not from first world countries without other choices. They aren't going to go after rich people and kidnapping them because they happen to be into this in their own lives. The cost-benefit ratio just doesn't work. Why kidnap a woman living as a 'pet' to a rich man who will work like hell to protect her and expose them when you can get a 12 year old from a third world country whose family has no choice.

This is not to say I'm in anyway defending human trafficking, but to link it with S&M is, I think, deeply anti-sex.

And frankly, these kind of bullshit analogies (and stupid net-only "Masters" who talk about having the right to cut off a slave's ear unless she specified otherwise, or whatever) are part of the reason it took me over a decade to accept who I am and, I think, scare a lot of women out of accepting a submissive side to themselves.

The trailer is the only thing that looks good. The movie was utterly horrific. I feel sorry for anyone who was suckered into purchasing it.

English twisted and perverted comedy "Preaching to the Perverted" loosely based on the notorious and heart breaking "Spanner trials" that ended up (and were lost) in the European Court of Human Rights. Gay men were imprisoned up to 4 1/2 years for practising BDSM.

Story has been converted to an American female Dominant (and wow....what a magnificent Domme!) as the accused. Also converted to "comedy" and overlaid with cartoon touches (such as hot pink hidden somewhere in every single scene a la Greenaway) in an effort to convey a heavy message about human rights across to a mainstream audience.

Absolutely fantastic film. My favorite film of all time (and so is the pumping sound track).

Recommendation: buy the DVD for the directors narration why he did what he did. Some of the film dialogue is word for word from the Spanner Trial. And look out for one of the Spanner actual defence lawyers, "Mr Happy"!

I love both her and her brother, and I adored that movie Donnie Darko. That movie just rocked. I think her brother is one of the best actors

I hate to tell you, but "The Pet" is a horrible movie vis-a-vis BDSM. I watched it at a kink-freindly gathering not long ago. The movie links bdsm to non-consentual slavery and modern human trafficking, and remind the viewers quite vividly at the end as to how many countries today still have human trafficking going on.

While fighting human trafficking is impotant, to link it to modern consentual bdsm does not do our lifestyle any justice.

I give the movie 10 out of 10 for cool depictions of slave training and a unique slave cage but minus 1000 for it's anti-bdsm political message.
