GhitaAmati -> Just how rough can you actually be on nipple peircings? (9/18/2007 12:24:22 PM)

Say someone goes and gets their nipples peirced, and waits the required time to make sure they are compleaty healed....how rough can you be on them? Can you still pinch the nipples? Pull on the peircing itself? Put clamps on? Would someone with a peircing actually still enjoy clamps and pinching and stuff?

Related question....why is it that everytime I see someone with peirced nipples, they have a rather large guage, 10 or so....is it possible to peirce nipples with something smaller like a 14? Does the size of the guage change how rough you can be on the nipples and peircing???

Hi,

To answer to your last question first, yes you can have them pierced all the way down to 16 gauge, which is what mine were when I first had them done (they are now 6 gauge). I think, though it is recommended that it be at least 14 gauge for men and 12 for women. Anyway, the gauge of the piercing does determine to a degree how they can be played with. Smaller gauges (thicker metal) translate into being able to pull on them harder, for example. This is simply because a thinner metal will exert more pressure on the surounding tissue for a given force. If you exert too much pressure on a thin metal ring, it could conceivably tear the tissue and come out (although you can still be pretty rough with a 14 gauge).

As for your first question, I can only answer from my point of view. I enjoy hard tugging on the rings, and I definately still enjoy having them pinched and clamped; I find them to be much more senstitive to pleasure and pain, but I enjoy the type of pain I receive from having them pinched or clamped or otherwise played with roughly. I hope this is of some help.

Thank you so much Ponyboy! I think my fear was that once they were peirced no one could ever pull on them again for fear of the peircing ripping through the skin....which I guess obviously COULD happen...but I was wondering if it happened with regular tugging....

Id really like to get mine done with a 14...I just personally like the look of the smaller jewelry...but we are going this weekend to talk with a peircer.....I just wanted to get some input from people who actually do some pulling on peircings before I went in....

HI Ghita. My nipples used to be pierced and yes, I was still able to use clamps on them with having a ring in. When I went to have mine done, the piecer explained about the different guages and he was the one who suggested the appropiate guage for the size of my niples. Once they are fully healed, a person can gradually increase the guage of the rings. As for rough pulling and tugging, I found I still was able to handle it and had not problems with tearing. For the first while after healing, I found the niples were hypersensitive and and had to gradually work up to having them roughly handled. After mune being pierced, I found I greatly enjoyed mine being tugged, pulled and bitten as the sensitivity increased.

Thanks bear!

did you get them peirced with a ring or a barbell? Does one or the other help things to heal quicker?

Ghita,

While all the info included here so far seems all well and good...and probably the norm; I would have to say just how 'rough' you could be would depend on how well your body accepted the piercings.

I have a friend who's body 'rejected' one of her rings...and it gradually migrated upwards untill you could see it right under the skin.  Her breast was painful and hot...until her Master finally had it removed.  Had he tugged on it, I'm pretty sure he'd have ripped her open.  I guess it happens sometimes...

They let it heal, and got her 're-done' with a different metal.  She's good to go now...on both sides!  [:)]

You are quite welcome Ghita.

One thing I will add:

Bearlee is absolutely correct here; it is very possible for one's body to reject a piercing because of the particular metal used in the jewelry, or because it was originally pierced improperly. It is important to make sure the piercing is healed and is not migrating or being rejected before you start playing with it. I expect your piercer will be able to tell you what to look for and how long to wait before playing with it.

Good discussion & you've gotten some great advice.

Re: Clamps over piercings.  Keep this in mind ... the thickness of the healed skin INSIDE the healed tube is very thin ... or it will be for many months after the piercing appears to be healed.  And, while you CAN put a clamp over it ... a clamp over a nipple & over the piercing with jewelry in it ... will squash the blood out of the healed piercing tube between the piercing & the clamp ... IF you deprive that healed skin from blood for long enough, you can starve the skin cells & cause a pressure ulcer there.  You probably don't have to worry if the clamp is on for 15 min or less ... unless it is very, very tight.  It's a balancing act.  But if you crush or starve those cells, you'll have to re-heal that part of the piercing.  So if, after rough play or clamping over a piercing, it sticks the next day ... you've probably done damage & gotta let that tit heal for another few days to weeks.

You shouldn't have any problem if the clamps are NOT placed over the piercing & jewelry itself.

Also, if you like rough play, hard nipple twisting will probably cause more of a problem w/ the health of the piercing than just pulling.  (Anybody have lots of experience w/ this?  It's what I've seen, but I am not rough on piercings. In fact, I hate nipple piercings cuz they put the tits out of bounds for play for so long)

Re: straight vs curved piercings ... the straight generally heals faster IF you are using straight jewelry in it.  If you use a straight piercing needle (the most common by far -- I DARE you to find a piercer who uses curved needles!) and you put curved jewelry into the hole then the jewelry first has to reform the piercing hole to the same curve.  It does this by the constant eroding pressure down on the outside nipple sides and up in the center of the piercing.  The tighter the curve, the longer this will take.  Only AFTER this reforming has been done can the piercing think of starting to heal a skin tube thru the piercing hole.

The compromise is 'shackle' jewelry on a straight shaft going thru the nipple ... that'll heal as a straight piercing but serves as a loop on the outside.

A piercing that migrates out is either 1) placed too shallowly (too close to the tip of the nipple), or 2) being rejected because she's allergic to the metal (that should be tested before putting it in.  Also, rough play & repeated trauma can effectively cause the piercing to act like a shallow piercing.    Nipple piercings should be placed back as close to the areola as possible.
A non-cutting needle has a better chance of not cutting a milk duct (by pushing it out of the way instead of cutting thru it) & not resulting in a milk leak coming out of the piercing site ... which can set you up for a duct infection and this can lead to a serious mastitis & even surgical repair.

The diameter of the piercing needle & jewelry is inversely related to the load you can put on the piercing. The higher the gauge# of the piercing, the 'sharper' it feels when tugged on.  An 18 ga or 14 ga can be very sharp ... whereas an "00" can take a logging chain to help pull the truck outta the mud :-)

Anything else?  I don't monitor these msg boards, if you've got more questions, send me an email.

Thanks everyone! I just got on this morning to read if anyone else posted and WOW! Thanks for all the advice!

petdave -> RE: Just how rough can you actually be on nipple peircings? (9/19/2007 8:12:35 AM)

i've had my nipples pierced for about 14 years now...
Yes, you can be pretty rough with them. It is possible, even when they've been healed for years, to be rough enough to injure the "tunnel" of the piercing. This can leave a lingering soreness for several days, similar to the feeling of a fresh piercing, but will generally heal much more quickly than the original hole.
i like clamps, do a lot of play with them, but i find that having a clamp placed directly on the jewelry hurts like fuck! It just takes my breath away, and will usually lead to soreness the next day. Using clamps on the nipple behind the jewelry is still possible and much more tolerable to me. Of course, everyone's mileage may vary here.
It actually takes a lot to rip a piece of jewelry through a well-healed piercing. i had a 14-gauge curved barbell in my naval, and caught it on the drip rail of a car as i was stepping down... bled a little bit, and bent the crap out of the barbell, but didn't tear out. i had a 12-ga, 1/2" captive bead ring in a guiche piercing (between scrotum and anus) used as part of a restraint in a scene (yes, risky, i know, i knew, i accepted, i'd do it again) and ended up pulling too hard on it... turned the circular ring into a 180-degree arc, to the point where i ended up throwing it away because i couldn't get it back into shape. Couple drops of blood, felt fine three days later. So piercings in general aren't as fragile as you might think.

I have 10g right now, thinking about going to 8g soon. And i have had them for about 10 years. i absolutely LOVE them and couldn't be happier with my decision to get them pierced. M loves them as well. He can pull, twist, turn, lift and clamp them (and DOES) hard! So it doesn't have to limit nipple play because of them at all. Just be careful and make sure they are done by a reputable piercer and are fully healed. Good luck and enjoy!

soilsubbie -> RE: Just how rough can you actually be on nipple peircings? (9/20/2007 6:50:09 AM)

I got my nipples pierced yesterday, and i have a barbell in, a 14g.  I have had my tongue done for years and it hurt way more than my nipples.  The piercer told me it would "hurt like a bitch", but after the first one i kinda snickered.  His wife said, "oh.. you're one of those."  She explained that her and her hubby were into bdsm as well. I have larger breasts and gravity was not kind to me last nite, when i took my bra off.  But today the soreness is alomost gone, and holy hell are they sensitive, i can't stand to not have a bra on to keep them from rubbing on my shirt. I can't wait for them to heal.  After reading about how much one can play with them, i'm all excited.  I recommend it to every one. (I allmost got in trouble for showing them off after i got it done, oopsie!)
