So let's get this straight...

Dan Rather falls prey to a clear hoax that discredits his employeer as well as himself and he wants to sue them because he and his producer didn't check their facts and were made to look like fools infront of the entire nation?

farglebargle -> RE: Rather v. CBS/Viacom/Redstone/Moonves et. al... (9/19/2007 5:11:51 PM)

You know he didn't WRITE the story, RATHER simply read the story. That's ONE of the points.

Any issues with the story lie with the Producer of the story.

CBS not getting Rather's Back after 44 years, but tossing him to the White House as part of their disinformation campaign...

Well, we'll see what a jury thinks about CBS's obligation to defend their employee in this case.

Dan Rather had editorial content control of all his work and the producer Mary Mapes was exclusive to him.

This was Dan Rather's bungle pure and simple.

For all of a bungle, I'm *still* not convinced that Bush served with honor.

Was the STORY correct?

Some jet fuel receipts would sure help his case...

We've discussed this to death. The paperwork looks like Bush "excused himself" from the TANG, went to NOLA, and then asked for permission to go to NOLA. ( Which in itself is ass-backwards... )

The getting grounded is essentially the same as washing out, to me.

  Rather and CBS had the story vetted by the white house ,before it aired.I smell a rat.I believe Rather/CBS was feed the un-original documents in order to ambush them,when the documents authenticity came into question.Typical republican dirty tricks.

And oh Jesus,all the fake outrage(wink-wink)when the document was found to be a copy,and Rather was fired.

Fact is,the story is true.bush did go AWOL,and wouldn`t  have had a chance at the presidency,if that fact had got out.Boy what a snow job they did on that one.

One of the reason why bush didn`t sue CBS for liable,is that the story is true,and you can`t sue if the underlying facts are true.If the story was faults(something republicans cling to),there would have been grounds for a law suit.

farglebargle -> RE: Rather v. CBS/Viacom/Redstone/Moonves et. al... (9/19/2007 5:35:05 PM)

Was the setup retribution for Rather and Mapes breaking the Abu Ghraib story?

Owner59 -> RE: Rather v. CBS/Viacom/Redstone/Moonves et. al... (9/19/2007 5:36:05 PM)

  To the military,AWOL, is equivalent to desertion.

That`s why bush spent so much effort hidding everything,and bull shiting America.

farglebargle -> RE: Rather v. CBS/Viacom/Redstone/Moonves et. al... (9/19/2007 5:43:39 PM)

I notice from the court filings that the Investigative board NEVER said the documents *were* forged, nor did they fault Rather, NOR did they conclude that ANY of the facts in the story were false...

It *looks like* a few CBS execs tried to suck-up to the White House. I wonder what blackmail info THEY were vulnerable from...

( Boy, this spying on Americans without a Warrant really pays dividends! )

And the point is moot.

It is an INEXCUSABLE flaw in ones' character and moral construction to EITHER:

1) Desert

2) Go AWOL

3) Fail to honorably and with integrity EXCEED the demands made upon you as an Officer.

How you label Bush simply deciding to move to NOLA, and ditch training WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL is irrelevant.

He's a piece of shit however you slice it.

Ahhhh....

What?

You need to do some homework.

Who cares WHAT you call being a YELLOW, PIECE OF SHIT COWARD?

Some would suggest he was a pansy because he didn't volunteer to go to Vietnam.

Some would suggest he was a pussy because his DADDY got a BUDDY to get him a slot somewhere safe.

Some would suggest he was a WASHOUT because he was grounded after ditching duty.

Some would suggest he was a CRIMINAL because he moved to NOLA and ditched TANG without prior authorization.

Who cares WHAT you call this piece of shit coward?

Not saying it`s the same,but there`s jail time,demotion,and dis-honorable dis-charge possible,for those that go AWOL.

Aside of that,to the military,if you`ve gone AWOL,as bush did,you don`t get much respect,let alone the presidency.

fb, I didn't realize you had already started a thread on this, sorry.

Owner59 -> RE: Rather v. CBS/Viacom/Redstone/Moonves et. al... (9/19/2007 6:07:35 PM)

The whole reason for the "bush is a hero" campaign,was to counter Kerry`s actual heroic war record.

There was deserter bush,with all his special treatment,vs. Kerry,who volunteered to join the navy,and earned real,actual respect and honors.

If you`re bush`s handlers,what do you do?You attack Kerry with bullshit like the swiftboaters,and lie about his record.

At he same time you fix the facts,or hide them,as bush did.
Hey,they only gave it there best shot.What else were they going to do?

America picked Gore,and bush stole the election,and we have what we have now,the worst president in history.

Rather should be thanked for trying to do America a favor.

TheHeretic -> RE: Rather v. CBS/Viacom/Redstone/Moonves et. al... (9/19/2007 6:17:37 PM)

        Given the different tones of the threads in question, I'd say choice is a good thing.
