Powerman40 -> Seeking Virginian Insight (9/22/2007 4:18:00 PM)

I was not sure where to post this so I hope I selected the correct place on the boards.
I am heading to Roanoke Virginia for a week and was wondering is anyone had any input on fun places to go for dinner, bars, people or things to see, unusual or little known things or facts about the area. I have been there a few times but never had time to spend adventuring about and it would be nice to have some local insights about the area. Any Virginians have anything fun to direct my way? if not, thanks anyway.

I lived right outside of this area for quite a while, although I do not know about the night life there in Roanoke I do have some cool things to see..Natural Bridge , Art Museum of Western Virginia, Millhouse Mountian Theatre, the Roanoke Star Overlook...its about 2-3 hours from Bristol where there is the Speedway, and Bristol Caverns, in Marion which is in between Bristol and Roanoke there is Hungry Mother State park - beautiful, and full of history....Hope this helps!

I miss Virginia. [:(]

Any and all civil war sites are excellent.  I enjoyed Bull Run but found it quite spooky. I lived closer to DC but the Roanoke valleys were gorgeous.

There are numerous natural sites and battle grounds near that area to visit. Very nice area and its a good time of year to go since it is no longer as hot...just ask the hotel your staying in for a tourist map most of them have them. If not there is a center in in town that has one.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the input... I have been to the star and the natural bridge so I will add the rest to places to see, particularly the state park. Virginia, ready or not... here I come!
