well, the kitties are now five months old, and have grown quite a bit since July when we collected them and brought them home. Well, when I say collected them - the pair of them walked into the carrier and sat down, as much to say "OK, where're we off to then?" Since then, they've had the run of the house, learned to climb up me (ripping my legs to shreds in the process), had their vaccinations, and done everything that little kitties are meant to do. And theyre two quite different characters too. Pepper is a very talkative puss - does the talking for herself and her sister Tess, who rarely makes a sound. Pepper is a born hunter, chasing anything and everything that moves, and desperate for someone to play with her 24/7. She's also aggressive with her sister, attacking her all the while, only to be beaten up since Tess is slightly larger and a much better fighter; their rough and tumble always end with Pepper squealing as her ear or leg gets a firm chomp. But, Pepper is also something of a nervous and anxious kitty - following me around wherever I go. Then there's Tess, who's much bolder and quite content on her own. She's also an aspiring beautician it seems; every morning she sits on my pillow and does my hair for me. She's pretty much disinterested in chasing things around - though that could be because her sister is so much quicker, Tess doesnt stand a chance of catching anything. Anyway, last night. We got back around midnight from well, er, um, doing something, and entered the house. Instantly, two little kitties shot outside. Now during the day, Tess will happily sit at the open door and venture out a little, whilst Pepper will hide up the hallway - hardly surprising since there's three fully grown cats living opposite. Tess will face them down though, despite the size difference. So, I tried for an hour to get the kitties back inside; they were having none of it, running around like mad things, chasing shadows and having a great time in the dark - the other cats were staring from the opposite door, imprisoned for the night. In the end, I had to give up and then spent the night waiting for the yowls at the door. Bad, baaad kitties! So, this morning Tess is on the door - in she comes, eats and falls asleep. No sign of Pepper, no concern about her from Tess. When I go call her name in the backyard, I can hear her miaowing over the fence, so I go all round the block to the other side - no sign of her. So, I try the yard again - and there she is at the top of a fir tree, hiding. Its now midday. Stepping through the brambles, nettles and spider webs at the bottom of the yard, I reach up as she climbs down into my arms, yowling piteously at her self imposed abandonment. I take her back inside the house - though she's struggling, she isnt going anywhere - enough fun for the moment I think. She eats, she curls up with her sister, and looking at them theyre quite happy - and oblivious it seems to the worry they caused me! Bad, baaad kitties! E
