Are you certain of how she views the war? If not, then you're jumping the gun a bit. And are you saying that helping children isn't positive?

And how many do you know that "really support the war"?

It's not inconceivable that Jenna received a crash course in the native language before she went there, learning enough to get by on.  Spanish is taught in schools here, you know.  I speak basically no Spanish, but I can walk into a Spanish-speaking patient's room at the hospital where I work, say good morning, ask their name, tell them I'm there to draw their blood, tell them I'm finished, say thank-you and wish them a nice day.

Just because you didn't see an interpreter on tv, it doesn't mean there wasn't one around.

There are people living in our country at this very moment who speak no English, yet they manage.  And no, they don't take interpreters everywhere they go, trust me.

If you've ever seen children of different nationalities playing together on a playground, you've noticed that they still manage to communicate and play together.

Personally, I think Jenna has a lot of guts stepping into the public eye knowing the world hates her father, and knowing she's going to receive a lot of small-minded and petty criticism.  I don't think I'd be that gutsy.

I don't see her on tv denouncing her father.

Those who do not object, consent.

Like I said Fargle, there is no way the military would let her anywhere near anything dangerous. Its just not going to happen. The commanders and generals would not want her out there. If she joins up, she may go through basic boot camp or whatever... but after that she'll be doing paperwork at the Pentagon.

At least that wouldn't be hypocritical.

But I'm an absolutist about this. It's cut-and-dried. IF you're of service age, and "Support The War", you're a hypocritical coward unless you're enlisted. You cannot "Support The War" and NOT come to the service of the nation in that war.

Jenna Bush's and every other cowards position boils down to: "It's important enough for someone else to take the risk of dying." -- Nice sentiment.

The fact that Chelsea was born in 1980, and Bosnia was 1995, I don't think a 15 year old is really worthy of criticism in this case, but that aside, I would suggest that to compare Clinton/Bosnia with Bush/Iraq is misguided in the first place, due to the criminal nature of Bush's acts in defrauding Congress into authorizing force in Iraq.

Well we still have troops in the Balkans getting shot at and periodically killed, and I never saw Chelsea on TV denouncing her father for going in there.  Such an absolutist...

And if you do enlist, and go and fight unlike the chickenhawks who sent you into battle, then come back to tell people what a stupid farce this war is, then you get called a "phony soldier" by Rush Limbaugh (who avoided duty in Vietnam thanks to a pimple on his butt).

Or worse, get wounded several times after volunteering for combat and get your service and your name smeared by the Republican Service Slimer Machine because you happen to be running for president against some frat boy who drank his way through the Vietnam years after getting help from daddy's friends.

No, you just can't win, can you?

Fargle, do you think even if she did enlist that they would allow her ANYWHERE near any kind of combat or danger? First off, the military doesnt like women in combat. Second, it would be a situation like Prince Harry...they just wont let him serve. Harry wanted to go but the Brits decided that it would just be too dangerous...not just for him but for his unit since the enemy would concentrate their energies on his unit in order to try to capture or kill the Prince. Al-Queda would absolutely LOVE that oppertunity. Is it fair to place extra burden on his unit just in the interests of equality? The Brits say no....and the Pentagon would agree.

Like it or not, that is just how it is.

....a rare occasion where i agree with Cyberdude. Even if a Bush progeny signed up, they'd never get near to any real fighting.
