lol, guilty.

I want to keep them innocent (as if I could) for as long as possible. It's not always a rational, logical decision I've reached after carefully weighing all the issues. It's sometimes a simple knee-jerk reaction. "Hell no, you can't watch That 70's Show (like I didn't smoke weed all through High School)"

Even though I know my children are exposed to concepts by their peers, I don't want to acknowledge the fact that my babies know just as much (and most likely more) as I did at their age. Just as I perpetuated the myth of Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Faerie as long as I could, I do my best to keep my teens from being exposed to sexual themes, nudity and drugs.

I don't see it as hypocritical, although I know some do. I answer questions with age-appropriate honesty and detail, but I'm not inclined to foster an atmosphere that promotes the idea that teenagers are emotionally equipped to deal with the same complicated issues that adults face. I have great kids but they are still just kids and I feel like they still need my guidance in what is and isn't appropriate entertainment.

So for my kids, it no Jerry Springer, no R-rated movies that I haven't previewed and no rap music that I haven't listened to first. OTOH, I've never been one who gets upset at what is being broadcast on TV or what is shown in theaters or put out on CDs. I figure it's my responsibility to monitor what my kids watch and listen to, not the government or the entertainment industries.

And if the kids grow up and decide to become kinky, that's OK. I just want them to grow up before deciding to explore the possibilities. Whatever interests they may have currently, it's my job to ensure their primary focus remains on doing their best in school and developing the neccessary social skills to function within society.

It's an interesting thing anyway. I have never read or heard of a method of psychology or psychiatry that "removes" or tones down a fetish so extreme that is causes sexual dysfunction. Do doctors use drugs to curb it, and does it work? Is it somehow related to obsessive-compulsive disorders in some way?

Akasha

It's not technically OCD- it's not about trying to control, it's not a response to anxiety, and it's not an obsessive/compulsive response to something. Fetishists aren't obsessed about the object, they just like sex as much as anyone else. It just so happens that they need some object to perform and enjoy sex. Their sexual connection isn't used to try and control or reduce anxiety, it's just a patterned necessary response. It's a pretty confined sexual connection.

I am not sure whether this connects to what you were saying at all - but in the UK - about 4 months back approx - there was a programme with people suffering from OCD - and there was a man on it - brave as He was being open about it on TV - who had an addiction to masturbation and did so daily between 14 to 32 times... He had terrible problems with infections and soreness and muscle strain also, but He could not stop - I believe hypnotherapy eventually assisted His addiction....

Peace and Love

I find it most amusing when KINKY people react the same way (and they do).

just for clarification, Dr. Phil is a real doctor. i found this link

http://ask.yahoo.com/ask/20040714.html

i don't always agree with the advice this man gives, but i figured, to be fair, he is for real.

you know, my mom loves me, and has my best interest at heart, but if my Master walked up to her, shook her hand, and told her how much He loves binding me, and leaving marks on my body from when He whips, flogs, spanks, and flays me... well, she would really object. (to put it mildly)

in fact, one time, she advised me to try to play a little hard to get with Him, and not be so easy with . *lol* she was a bit irked when i told Him about it. but not many vanilla people i know would advise someone to dabble very deeply into wiitwd.

i watch Dr. Phil, sometimes, and i like His stand when it comes to defending kids, and protecting them from harm. i am not going to heed his warning about swinging or BDSM, but i don't have to.
