Mist it said it needed refridgeration after opening, but at walmart it sat out in the shelves by the cash register. their website saus they do mix sweet and tart apples so maybe the tart zing is from their apples and not from it being bad?

well, we have the safest food supply in the world...but somewhere along the line if someone isn't doing their job there can be a slip up..like this apple juice thing and the most recent e coli thing with hamburger...considering the statistics..we are lucky..we don't even know what goes on in other countries..some poor wretch dies in the countryside..i am sure it isn't even documented..just my humble opinion...and we gross about it all...hmmmmmmmmm

Musselmann's is some awful shit... generaly speaking zeiglers is pretty good. I would take it back. I would complain if it was unrefridgerated when you bought it in the store.

BTW Camille that salad sounds fantastic.. I just had a salad for dinner.. but damn I want another...

Cider will turn to basicaly apple vinagar if it is left out, or opened for too long. Once opened it has to be refridgerated immediately.

Unless it says Great Value < Wal-marts brand name  > it isnt a walmart quality control issue really.. just the nature of apple cider going to apple vinagar damn quick and in a hurry in the right conditions.

I buy a lot of the stuff durring this time of year.. and have had it happen to me enough times to reconize the signs.

Stuff is *Nasty* when it goes south!

I hope the info helps hun. BTW camille65 is totaly right with the chicken part.. use it as a marinate for chicken.. or pork.. toss in some garlic and rosemarry... maybe some thyme.. and you will love it. I kept our jug that went south just for that reason. If you leave the Cider in the fridge long enough after it goes south.. it will become a "hard cider" even better to marinate with. We call the chicken "Drunken chicken"n when we use it then.

Hi There!

I just wanted to correct something. I was born and raised in an apple state, Maine, where we made our own cider. Cider if left in a cool place will turn to hard, alcoholic, cider not vinegar. Whether cider, wine or whatever, to turn to vinegar it needs specific conditions, the correct bacteria and takes years to happen without a mother. Wine will turn to vinegar if left alone but cider needs conditions and a mother to turn to anything other than hard cider.

As for what to do, you could have returned it, even the empty jug. Always buy cider from a local grocery store that carries a local vendor. Better still if you are in a state that grows apples get it from the orchards. I don't have time and adore cider so I do the local grocery store thing. Even though a Wal Mart is in your town never means it is getting it's foods locally. Most of it is shipped in long distances and much of it becomes inferior due to this process. When I saw this listed in the forum I automatically read it as 'inferior' and those who point out a typo always know what you meant IF they have any command of the English language.

Be Well,

EG
