JerseyKrissi72 -> Motorcycle Safety: PLEASE Read (10/9/2007 5:20:10 AM)

         This morning I found out a dear friend of mine- someone I dated for about a year passed away from a motorcycle accident- this will be the fourth person in the month of October alone that I know passed away in my town from a motorcycle accident...please....it IS cool to wear a helmet at all times-- it is NOT cool to drink and drive/ drug n drive....You have no idea how many people you leave behind, scarred from your death...Noone had my phone number so I found out by bumping into a guy I use to date this morning at a diner...I was stunned...we all hung out last week laughing and having a blast- we even discussed possibly getting back together..now- he's gone..forever. I love bikes- don't get me wrong but you MUST be more cautious than if you are driving a car! Sorry to rant on..but if it can save a life or spare someone misery....I'll rant...thankyou.[:(]

Krissi I'm really sorry about the loss of your friend. I agree with you, riding with a helmet and protective leathers is a smart thing and to me smart is very attractive.

yes this is one of the dangers of riding...people in cars dont pay attention. Im sorry for your loss....we have all lost someone we care about on bikes.

  I live in a pretty basic small town...Alot of my friends moved away but there are some of us who couldn't leave...lol

In a 50+ MPH collision with the ground a helmet would be nice.
I personally ride a Ducatti and think that full face helmets are cool cause they give the rider a hint of mistery.
But you know what they say, the last thing to go through his mind was his ass.

AZ is a choose to wear state......myself, I choose to wear....I got a 150cc scooter to replace my car, and the first thing I realized on it was that 35mph feels alot differently when you don't have the protection on 1000 lbs of metal around you.  I've actually had my scooter up to 60, and I'm loving it, but I have seen the aftermath of too many accidents where the rider had no helmet...ER staff have a term for those folks...ORGAN DONOR!  I've had two "Holy f*$k" moments already...one was a jerk that looked right at me and STILL made a left hand turn in front of me...about 20 feet between my bike and his truck bed, and just the other night, some drunk cut me off in traffic.  Yes, I know I'll get banged up in a wreck, but at least my head will make it thru OK...bones heal, brains don't!

Krissi, I'm sorry for your loss of your friend.  As long as you remember him in your heart, he will still be with you,  My thoughts go out to you.

Thankyou everyone for your kind words...I think there are more motorcycle accidents around here in the fall because it's been extremely foggy and damp....

Sorry to hear about your friend.

Motorcycles are a great way to get around, but they don't offer a lot of room for error...

oh, Krissi...i'm soooo sorry...i used to ride & i always wore a helmet, then 2 days after i got a very heavy leather jacket, a little old lady made a left turn right in front of me...i survived, but there were 8 fractures, 2 weeks in the hospital, 2months in a wheelchair & a lifetime of chronic pain now...i absolutely loved riding my bike & wouldn't trade those years for anything, and the headline on the article about my accident read "Helmet Saves Motorcyclist".........

I'm also sorry to hear about your friend.  My deepest sympathies.

Australia has strict laws on helmet wearing, there is no choice, you HAVE to wear one. It doesn't save everyone, but goes a long way to helping save lives.

Krissi, I am so sorry that you lost so many friends this way. Hugs xx
