I'm not trying to cause an explosion of hate or resentment here..this is just an observation...IMHO... and I'm curious to have some honest answers...it seems to me as I read some of the profiles of the newcomers to the site..the younger they are..the more they seem to scare me...for goodness sake..what ever happened just letting yourself be seen and a brief description..some background and some of what you're looking for...I say it's scary when I see...there will be no-one over this or that age(a preference) yet it goes into older being pedifiles looking for young girls/boys...or I will not leave home because of my mom or dad will kill me if I do...or you will be sensitive to my dreams and hopes...or I won't be a sex toy for anyone..etc..you kinda get where I'm coming from with this..so I'd like to know how you feel about this or am I just seeing this the wrong way...being in that older classification am I out of the loop on the new age dominant/submissive outlook of what this lifestyle is about...

I'm too young to know[:D]

I think you refer to the endlessly clueless ads that we all see - youth notwithstanding. This isn't an absolute rule with me, but the younger a person is the more likely I am to think they are a wannabe or a flake. A lot of people are just testing the waters though - seeing if this scene is right for them or not. It probably isn't, they don't know what they want or what they are doing. And when they set their sites on somebody based on some of the more superficial criteria possible you know they will regret it.

My usual attitude is just to think: "Tsk, tsk - what a little idiot" and forget about it. These people still need to make their youthful or inexperienced mistakes and I guess we should just be thankful that this will all be happening with someone else.

perverseangelic -> RE: young into the lifstyle (7/30/2005 8:33:23 AM)

Well, some of us have no clue. But some of us know exactly what we want and articulate it.

I think that older people -are- more likely to have a clear understanding of thier desires, and that young people are often still exploring. I think that sometimes leads to people asking for things they don't really want becuase they haven't tried it yet.

That said, unless we try it, we don't know we don't want it.

I think it is exploration on many young people's part. That may also translate to many being "bisexual" just because they want to try it out and figure they will get more hits with it in their profile.

I am sorry, but I cannot see how many of these people put that they are 18 and up to 25 and are either a Master or a Mistress. I mean come on, they don't even have a grasp of what life really is, nor would they have the in depth knowledge or experience that people older than them have. Granted they may have been lucky and been trained by a Master or Mistress possibly since birth or even their teens. But I really doubt it.

quietkitten -> RE: young into the lifstyle (7/30/2005 2:56:47 PM)

I have noticed that most people need to hit about 30 years before they realize how little they actually know about the world and about themselves.
It's too bad, really. Life would be a hell of a lot easier if we all knew that we were Dominant or submissive or vanilla or Gay or Straight before we got into long term relationships with people we end up being incompatible with.

Just adding: I have seen no difference in the dorkiness and ridiculous cluelessness of profiles based on age.

Padriag -> RE: young into the lifstyle (7/30/2005 5:18:53 PM)

I've noticed it too. I consider most of it to be from inexperience, which of course the younger you are the more likely you are to be inexperienced. Some of those profiles I think are just thrill seekers who aren't serious about the lifestyle but just out looking to "try something new and have fun". And then there are those which I questiion if they are even for real, and there surely are those that are not.

I dunno... I have my preferences set to only show profiles that are 28 & over. I don't look at profiles of the younger people unless I am contacted by them.

The trend I see with the younger crowd is just what I would expect from most in their early 20's... they are experimenting, exploring & most just want a hook-up. I think it is wonderful that persons of the younger generation have a chance to explore, meaning that more information is available these days & I hope that most will use good judgment while doing so. Many of the younger submales are faced with tough odds to find a partner to explore with. They have told me that most women their age that advertise on the net are in it for the money or are completely clueless as to what dominance is about.

I have also had the chance to speak with many younger female subs that typically complain about older domineering types harassing them. I have also heard from young male & female dominants that wish to have someone mentor them or at least befriend them.

I am sure their are a lot of them that like to role-play online as a form of amusement, but seldom do I have any exchanges with these types. I am not saying I don't get contacted by them... I just ignore them.

As one of these "younger" people (I'm 22), I'd be interested to see how older people react to my profile. If anyone feels like checking it out and getting back to me, that would be appreciated. I'm not exactly sure how I come across!

mtl1466 -> RE: young into the lifstyle (7/30/2005 10:00:46 PM)

I just turned 18 myself, and I know that I have been wanting to explore this world ever since I first saw a BDSM website and knew that all those days of being tied up during recess or with friends playing cops and robbers and getting hand cuffed or my sister making me wear her clothes, I then knew adults did it too and were actually having fun doing so. I claim that I have many kinky things I wish to accomplish in my life and yes a lot of newbies like myself are young but we're just getting ahead of the game to experience everything.

nenakajira -> RE: young into the lifstyle (7/30/2005 10:06:23 PM)

The rule that most people I know have always followed is "Master yourself before you can master another". I don't really think thats age based though it can take years or even a lifetime.. some mature very early. It varies.

IronBear -> RE: young into the lifstyle (7/31/2005 12:02:10 AM)

What I ask for in a slave is maturity not age. I'm a great believer in the "Know Thyself" philosophy. In another area of my life there is a motto implanted in every member ~
To Know!
To Will!
To Dare!
To kep Silent!

MadameDahlia -> RE: young into the lifstyle (7/31/2005 2:22:30 AM)

Not all youth has their head screwed on backwards... provided you're counting twenty as being young.

I've known what I want from life from a very early age. I've fine tuned it over the past few years, as I was finally exposed to D/s terms - but I've always had the general set up and dynamics in mind as I grew up.

I know what I want. I know how to articulate it.

And I've seen just as many older folks online who seem to have gotten online while outrageously drunk, banged out a profile and spam mailed the same sloppy email to anything with the proper genitals.

Youth has not got the market cornered when it comes to ignorance and laziness.

MstrHellsFury -> RE: young into the lifstyle (7/31/2005 6:34:24 AM)

back in the beginning I used a club to get her attention and snake skin as ties...I shaped sabertooth jaws as cuffs and used bat droppings as glue to shackle to the batcave walls...now as to the t-rex floggers...was someone spying on me...is there no privicy...a person can't even hide behind a rawhide curtain....oh well the cat's outta the bag now so I guess I'm outed...lol

tethered, I think your profile is great. It definitely stands out from most of the other ones in your age group!![;)]

IronBear -> RE: young into the lifstyle (7/31/2005 7:30:51 AM)

I tend to believe is that youth is where you are usually resilient enough to make a heap of mistakes and hopefully learn from them and grow from the experience. It’s the time where most are learning to stand on their own two feet and make a start on things which will remain with them through the years. I remember telling my mother when she was about to was her hands of me because I chose a Military carreer instead if University, that if she loved me she'd allow me to make my own decisions and my own mistakes. If she refused to do that, she would be wanting me to be a clone which was not love at all... After a few tears both my parents agreed with this. (Well thats the shortened story, the rest is family business)

The middle years is where you should have gained sufficient experience and knowledge to establish yourself and with (hopefully) self knowledge know what you want and perhaps even got for it.

The Elder years are for reflection on life generally and on self and to mentor those who you can.

I wonder how many of the Vets out there can remember going to combat as youngsters and coming out “older” and wiser with a much more mature outlook on life and things generally. I can say from my own experience, in Vietnam I did one hell of a lot of growing up and maturing. Heh, I even found out that I was not bullet proof. I learned that darkness was my friend and that pain was there to remind me I was alive…..
