As someone else pointed out in theis thread, HDs are a triumph of presentation over substance.

Spoken like somebody who has never owned one. Before you make that judgment you really should have first hand experience to speak from. Take one out, ride it across country or something. Not just spout what you read in a magazine.

Well no I don't own one but I've ridden my brother's more times than I care to and as far as I can tell its an image thing not a bike thing because it doesn't pump the adrenilin like many other machines do.

Some people like chalk and some like cheese but can’t we all get along. I’ mean them people that eat chalk are freaks from my perspective but they don’t harm anyone else…..

All i can say is ya must've been doing it wrong, lmao.

And it is not always about adrenalin, sometimes it is about just cruising.

They can be whatever you make of them, you customize them, you make them your own. I've ridden a HD drag bike that would peel the eyelids off your eyes, i loved it, but it was not suitable for the street. I ridden HD's that were rolling works of art as well.

Personally i prefer to build something that is a combination, great ride, great looks.

But that is the correct response NO?. On a standard road going Harley my guess is that prolonged riding at 80 would be hard and at 100 virtually impossible. Simply due to rider fatigue because of the spreadeagled riding position.

Triumph produced a 750 cc triple (Trident) that broke all kinds of track records and broke down all over the place when in stock condition.
Believe me I know, I owned one lol.

Wow, those are pretty reasonable. But then again, they are stock Harley's. You can pick up a brand new Sporty for around 7 grand almost any where, then add all those shiny chrome accessories later on a piece at a time.

My Master who is in the wind now used to build custom HD's for a living. The lower end bikes ran around 30 or 40 thousand, the highest priced one he ever built came in at 110 thousand, but it did have a nitrous boost on it.

There are three in our garage with a fourth to be added by next spring.

Don't make more out of my teasing comment than it is... Harley came out of near demise as a sideline to bowling balls, by moving into the business of selling bikes to those who can afford them, and as those old guys demanded GoldWing amenities, Harley obliged, to follow their primary customer base.

Someone one who still has their old scoot after 30 years, and isn't getting a new one, doesn't put a dime into current HD profits. A senior executive/doctor/lawyer who trades up every couple of years is who they are targeting.

Doesn't make the bikes any less nice, but it does validate the earlier comment about being for older guys.

Same thing happened to decent electric guitars and amps.

HDs are a bit like riding a horse and feels that way after a bit of a ride.

I had a Trident once and yep, it sucked having to carry spanners everywhere you went. The women weren't always appreciative of having to stand in a bus shelter for a hour in the cold and rain while you rebuilt the engine. Jap bikes go like shit but can seem to lack that je ne sais quoi at times.

Speaking of which, I'm off to Japan in an hour.

Well, I dunno, I rode my stock HD sporty cross country solo 3 times, going about 80 the whole way and riding between 12 and 20 hours at a stretch. Of course with a stock tank, I WAS stopping every hour LOL

You can't tell me everyone should be alive since many people get in the way of even more people living. The ones who do so out of pure spite are the worst of them, to me.

So, if you want to admit all of this or not, you can't say "Life is far to precious to wish anyone dead" unless you really are saying the world wouldn't have been better off if Hilter wasn't hit by a car just before his ascent in German politics. (He's an extreme example, but I'm using one to show that this idea is absurd.)
