In January of this year, i had a total hip replacement on my right side, then on the 25th of September, i had the same operation on my left side, i was told that i have to becareful not to dislocate it, im now worried as hell when eventually i can have sex, also when i eventually get a Dominant and explain my health problem, i feel i may not be accepted as with someone who has normal hip joints.

any advise would be helpful.....thank you

talk to you doctor about the sex. they should be able to tell you more. Doctors are at least versed in the sex question.

as for the Dom in your future, if they are not accepting of your condition do you realy want to be his sub?

I am having the same operation on Nov. 9, and like you i will probably be having the other one done in the future.  Hubby and i went to a 3 hr class that explained what to expect and all about the "hip precautions" we needed to observe.  Dislocation is the major risk.  They gave us a booklet on sex after the surgery rather than make people uncomfortable discussing it. Somehow we ended up with two copies LOL.  If you want to email me your address on the otherside of CM i can send you one of them right away.  Also i would be interested in hearing some details of how your surgery went.

i agree with Phin. If a potential Dom has a problem being accepting, then You deserve better and should move along... Good luck with everything. :)

I tried to find the brochure online, didn't find it but did find some good articles:

Here's an exerpt from an excellent site: http://www.aboutjoints.com/physicianinfo/topics/hiprehab.htm
30. What about sex after joint replacement?
Absolutely. Many people express a concern about a dislocation or damage to the prosthesis while having intercourse after a hip replacement. After 10-12 weeks the pseudocapsule has reformed around the hip joint, and the muscles typically have been rehabilitated so that the risk of a dislocation or damage to the prosthesis is negligible. Certainly, for patients who have had to cease coitus because of pain or a loss of ROM prior to hip surgery, the return of sexual activity should be one goal postoperatively.

Another good article:
http://hipuniverse.homestead.com/files/SexTHR.htm

If i find the one i was looking for i will send you the link.

I just had THR --- left side Aug, right side Sept.  I too have been looking for this, have been getting conflicting information.
Beside following your hip precautions, the other thing to do is exercise, exercise, exercise. This will help build your muscles,
guard against dislocation.
Good Luck and have a speedy recovery!

Talk to you doctor, most doctors expect these kinds of questions. I would also suggest if / when you begin a relationship be upfront and honest about your limitations due to these surgeries. If someone isn't willing to accept those limitations then perhaps they are not the person for you.

Blessed Be,
Nika
