I have stated this before in some of the other sections, but I want to expand on it and get some feedback. Since when did it happen that " you have no right to judge anyone or anything"? That bugs the hell out of me when someone states that. That really means " you have no right to say something that I disagree with".
We all judge others by what they say or do. Every day. What makes you answer some emails on Collarme and not others? You judge which ones are worth answering. That's what you do. And I think that is fine.
To judge before knowing, or to judge by the wrong criteria, i.e. race, that to me is where judging can go wrong.
But to read someone's opinion here and then say they have no right to say what they believe, well sorry, but I will judge you. You are wrong.

I feel no matter what walk of life we are in. Someone someplace on a daily basis is going to judge us. Sure they may be 100% wrong but they are entitled to their own opinion. We may or may not like their opinion...but does it really affect who we are? What others say about us?

In my opinion it does'nt matter in the least. So I agree with Estring..let people judge and be judged. Just keep in mind you may or may not be wrong.

So my advice....keep an open mind. You never know what may creep in.

Estring,

You have no right to feel that way!

Sorry I could not resist. A real reply will follow.

I forget where from, but I know I'm quoting somebody, "garbage has every right to be garbage."

Want a Biblical quote? "Judge not lest ye be judged."

Without specifics I can only look at extremes. Either nobody judges or only one person judges. I'd rather we be tolerant of some stupid stuff than have a Hitler or Stalin as a judge. (Even if it is not Stalin or a "polit bureau" and is captain fantastic, how do we know a Stalin won't succeed him?)

I know from experience this will not be popular, but it is right:

All individuals have the right to exercise sole dominion over their own lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal right of others to live in whatever manner they choose. (Before a Dom/ina quibbles with the word "forcibly" answer how often you do non-consensual stuff.)

In this I use Ben Franklin as an example. Ben Franklin was opposed to slavery. (Real slavery, non – consensual cotton field stuff.) He died arguing against it with the new US congress. He not only knew he was right, he was right. He knew that putting himself morally above slaveholders to judge them was a greater evil than slavery itself.

This has a parallel in the gay marriage debate. (If I can get married by an Elvis impersonator would two lesbians tying the knot really threaten the sanctity of it?)

I gently asked a married co-worker of mine who is opposed to gay marriage how another co-worker who is openly lesbian threatens her marriage. (Gently because leading a horse to water and drowning it is never a good idea.)

Their latest argument is that next will be marriages between things like "A man and a dog" or "a man and his mother". My reply was if given all that as true (making clear that i'd contest it) would preventing that be worth denying the lesbian's spouse health insurance?

She didn't answer but I could see the seed planted in her mind.

To bring this back to "You have no right to judge me...." let me point out that the final answer must come from her. If I judge her and impose an answer that I feel is right it won't be final and i won't be respecting her as a person.

Gee, this is long. You said you wanted opinions, right?

I think the defining line between opinion and judgement is...

Is it any of your business? If it's not, then it's a judgement.

Judgement and discernment are not the same thing. Discernment is the ability to look at something/one else and say "that is not for me, therefore I do not want it in my life." Judgement is the sense that you (generic you) have the right to decide what is right or wrong for someone else.

I do not tolerate, nor give weight, to anyone who thinks they have the right to opine regarding my life, especially if I have not asked for that information.

I'm convinced that all of us have enough things happening in our own lives to concern ourselves only with judging ourselves. I'm also convinced that those that spend great deals of time espousing their rights to opinions about others probably are not doing the homework for themself that could be done, otherwise they would be too busy judging themself to find time to judge others.

Maybe that is a Gorean thing I don't know. Am I a horse supplicant? I like turning a phrase that is funny but I'm afraid I'm not in on the joke. Is it more than I know? Please, fill me in.

Simply speaking: perhaps a first for me:

Discernment: "That's a dumb idea. Here's why..."
Judgement: "How fucking stupid do you have to be to believe that, asshole?"

Note that the reaction to both may be identical, but when using discernment, the one reacting looks stupid, using Judgement, the one creating the situation does. That's where the "lest ye be judged also" part comes in.

People keep thinking that passages like this talk about some great pie in the sky metaphisical thingie; in fact it's pure common sense and human nature.

Yes. Yes I am. :-^)

Speaking of which, here's a little something we tossed off in a moment yesterday, only to find that it produced startlingly useful answers. It's a Trigram generator, and includes a link to the interpretations. There's a number of other such gadgets at the link provided. Please steal. If you come up with something good or even better, please email the code to me.

<table border='1' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='2' align='center'><form action='http://memegen.deskslave.org/viewmeme.pl?un=graphictruth&meme=1074629896' method='POST'><tr><th colspan=2 bgcolor='#000000'><font color='#DDDD88'>Trigram Generator by <a href='http://www.graphictruth.com'><font color='#DDDD88'>graphictruth</font></a></font></th></tr><tr><td bgcolor='#000000'><font color='#FFFFFF'>Your Question:</font></td><td bgcolor='#DDDDAA'><font color='#000000'><input type='text' name='Your Question:' value='Am I a true Dominant Master?' size='20'></font></td></tr><tr><td bgcolor='#000000'><font color='#FFFFFF'>A1</font></td><td bgcolor='#DDDDAA'><font color='#000000'><img src='http://graphictruth.com/tg2.gif'></font></td></tr><tr><td bgcolor='#000000'><font color='#FFFFFF'>A2</font></td><td bgcolor='#DDDDAA'><font color='#000000'><img src='http://graphictruth.com/tg1.gif'></font></td></tr><tr><td bgcolor='#000000'><font color='#FFFFFF'>A3</font></td><td bgcolor='#DDDDAA'><font color='#000000'><img src='http://graphictruth.com/tg2.gif'></font></td></tr><tr><td bgcolor='#000000'><font color='#FFFFFF'>B1</font></td><td bgcolor='#DDDDAA'><font color='#000000'><img src='http://graphictruth.com/tg2.gif'></font></td></tr><tr><td bgcolor='#000000'><font color='#FFFFFF'>B2</font></td><td bgcolor='#DDDDAA'><font color='#000000'><img src='http://graphictruth.com/tg1.gif'></font></td></tr><tr><td bgcolor='#000000'><font color='#FFFFFF'>B3</font></td><td bgcolor='#DDDDAA'><font color='#000000'><img src='http://graphictruth.com/tg1.gif'></font></td></tr><tr><td bgcolor='#000000'><font color='#FFFFFF'>Answers:</font></td><td bgcolor='#DDDDAA'><font color='#000000'><a href='http://flytrapinteractive.com/~complimentary/iching/index3.html'>http://flytrapinteractive.com/~complimentary/iching/index3.html</a></font></td></tr><input type='hidden' name='un' value='graphictruth'><input type='hidden' name='meme' value='1074629896'><tr><td colspan=2 align='center' bgcolor='#000000'><input type='submit' value='Fill Out Your Answers and Try it!'></td></tr><tr><td colspan=2 align='center' bgcolor='#000000'><font size='-1' color='#FFFFFF'>Created with <a href='http://www.livejournal.com/users/quill18/'><img src='http://stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif' style='vertical-align:bottom;border:0;'><font color='#DDDD88'>quill18</font></a>'s <a href='http://memegen.deskslave.org/'><font color='#DDDD88'>MemeGen 3.0</font></a>!</font></td></tr></form></table>

Here's the result for the question I asked; "Am I a true Dominant Master?"

60. Chieh - Limitation

-- --
----- above K'an The Abysmal, Water
-- --
-- --
----- below Tui The Joyous, Lake
-----

The Judgement

Limitation. Success.
Galling limitation must not be persevered in.

The Image

Water over lake: the image of Limitation.
Thus the superior man
Creates number and measure,
And examines the nature of virtue and correct conduct.

Changing Lines

Changing yang at the bottom means:
Not going out of the door and the courtyard
Is without blame.

Changing yang in the second place means:
Not going out of the gate and the courtyard
Brings misfortune.

Changing yin in the third place means:
He who knows no limitation
Will have cause to lament.
No blame.

Changing yin in the fourth place means:
Contented limitation. Success.

Changing yang in the fifth place means:
Sweet limitation brings good fortune.
Going brings esteem.

Changing yin at the top means:
Galling limitation.
Perseverance brings misfortune.
Remorse disappears.

Now, the beauty of the I Ching is that it doesn't really generate answers, it generates topics of introspection.

That's priceless, when you think of it.

Play with this and other memes here: http://nuke.graphictruth.com/modules.php?name=News&file=print&sid=296

Everyone judges in one way or another. It happens. Just remember while you are judging, someone else may very well be judging you.

i'm gonna go a bit off topic, (pun intended) to say; it's much easier to discern who's who now that E (wait, which one are you?) oh, Estring has a pic next to His name.

thanks for clearing that up, now i'll feel free to judge You.

just my humble opinion!

oh, aren't we cute :) But don't worry, I won't use one anyway. I am one of those people who don't do pictures (of what I look like anway). I did do some in '97 right after I left my husband, but with in a year rarely shared even those.

I agree. "Judging" and "Disagreeing" are far too often confused. Most people make some good points about the things they believe strongly in. All should be allowed to express those beliefs - as long as they are willing to allow others the same privilege. It's one of the most rewarding things about being American.
