One day, the Pope was giving a mass at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. After the mass, the Pope and his driver hop into a long white stretch limo to go to the next stop on the tour in San Antonio. About 10 miles outside of New Orleans, the Pope tells the driver to pull over. The driver, being a loyal and devoted servant to the Pope, quickly pulls over. It's the Pope, he can't tell him no. The driver goes to the back of the limo and asked the Pope what was wrong. The Pope replied, "Everywhere I go, I'm crammed in the back of a car and surrounded by bodyguards. I never get to have a little fun. Since I never get to have any fun, I decided I want to drive." The driver was shocked by such a request, but once again, it's the Pope. He can't tell him no. The driver then asks, "What am I supposed to do?" The Pope chuckles a bit and tells his devoted servant to just sit in the back and enjoy the ride. The Pope hops into the driver's seat and takes off. He's doing about 110 down I-10 when he crosses into Acadia Parish (my home parish). A deputy sheriff is doing radar check when the limo flies past him. Well, the deputy takes off after the limo and pulls it over in Crowley's city limits. The deputy turns on the loudspeaker for the driver to exit the vehicle. The door open and out comes the Pope. The deputy is catholic, so he instant recognizes the Pope in his white garb. He announces to the Pope on the loudspeaker to wait right there. The deputy gets on the radio and asks to talk to the sheriff because he pulled over someone important and is unsure how to proceed. The sheriff gets on the horn. "Alright, son. Is the person more important than the mayor of Crowley?" "Yes, sir. More important than the mayor." "Is he more important than the governor, son?", the sheriff asked. "Oh, yes, sir. Definitely more important than the governor." The sheriff thought for a moment. "Damn, boy. Who the hell did you pull over?" "I don't know, sir, but he's got the Pope driving for him!" ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Devoted property and humble servant of Mistress Lorelei
