Laws change from area to area, but legality is not the only issue. While getting arrested is a nasty process, and in no way should you invite such a process by doing something illegal, it's not the only issue. It's just the only factor connected with a set age. Maturity can happen early or never. There is just no set age for it.

And you never know about that munch until you show up. Yeah, maybe they will have their head up their butt and scoff at you being younger. Or they might be polite, but unable to find a topic that interests both age groups. Or you may hit it off with older people. Who knows until you show up.

However, if you exhibit mature and polite behavior, there really isn't a reason that older people should turn you down for a conversation. After all, you are not parading yourself as Mr. Know it all, and would like some tips and lessons, and respect their experience and knowledge of the field.

Me, I showed up(I actually didn't know exactly what it was, oops) and talked about WoW a lot with an older woman and had a blast, and various other vanilla topics.

As for getting my feet wet...21, not because of a lack of interest, but rather trying to find the right person.

junecleaver -> RE: Appropriate Age? (10/23/2007 5:47:50 PM)

I was considerably younger than you.  I don't think it was an inappropiate age.

iammachine -> RE: Appropriate Age? (10/23/2007 10:09:23 PM)

As long as you are considered a consenting adult, you aren't too young in my book. So, that would assume that the person is above whatever age and within the confines of whatever laws that their local goverment considers to be the age of consent. :)

That said, I was having loads of fun with my Ninja Turtles handcuffs with my other little playmates as a young girl. I'm not sure what that says. Oh, and I was flogging my friends as a teenager... I was a precocious youth.

Anyway, to make a long ramble less so, no, you're not too young to learn or play.

MsPleasure -> RE: Appropriate Age? (10/24/2007 12:31:26 AM)

According to the US 20 is an adult.  But those of us with children know better. You are young, but it does'nt hurt to learn about things.  I started at 49.  What Ive seen, heard, read, talked about and participated in can be a lot of fun or deadly.

The internet has exposed children to all sorts of things at a very young age.  Learn as much as possible and only engage in safe play.  There are some reckless folks out there, so don't get caught up.

I know I went into mommy mode...but oh well.

Maya2001 -> RE: Appropriate Age? (10/24/2007 1:14:45 AM)

Consider yourself lucky to have figured it out as young as you have, I am only getting my feet wet now at 48, my first dom is 50 and has the 30 years in  and was a pleasure having him introduce  me to the lifestyle LOL though he does not talk about with his kilds, they all lead vanilla lifestyles, my own son knows but he has always thought his mom was a little weird anyways

MissSCD -> RE: Appropriate Age? (10/24/2007 8:03:11 AM)

You are not that young, but I think it is easier to come out and explore the lifestyle now with the internet.  If I had the internet when I was your age, I would be searching all over the place just as you are.
I think you are too young for a commitment, but there are young Dommes out there.  It is a matter of taking time.  We are not automatic.

Regards, and best of luck to you.

Hello to all,

I can't help but notice, that the bdsm community seems to be made up of people well into their "adult" hood. I myself am only 20 years old (sub) and find it hard to find any dom within my own age (luckily I did find one)[:D]. Regadless of that though, I wish to merely start my journey and learn from various people, but I cant help but think that maybe I am too young to start? So I was wondering what age everyone else was when they truly got their feet wet in the bdsm world? Do you think I am too young?

Best regards
mark

Studying Political science?  If you plan on going into politics (or related field of public service), you may want to consider how nasty detractors can get when trying to find something negative on you.  Horrors, what would you do if they outed you as a sub 30 years down the road?  What you do now can follow you all your life.  Justifying it by saying "Oh.. I was just young and experimenting" won't cut it.  (Just like Bill Clinton's saying he tried pot once but didn't inhale) Think ahead.

Dnomyar -> RE: Appropriate Age? (10/24/2007 8:11:44 AM)

To the op. Take your journey slowly. Keep a record of each experience. Go over why you liked it or not. Learn from each one. Dont be judgemental. Everyone has their own ways. Go with what fits you.

I got started in BDSM when I was around 18 and started sneaking into groups at 19.  So no, I don't think 20 is to young, although I'm sure you'll hear that you are to young from people.  Just develop a thick skin on that issue.

slaverosebeauty -> RE: Appropriate Age? (10/24/2007 10:14:38 AM)

I kinda started out at 18, I had known about it before I got involved and at 18, I started looking into things; the internet was still in its booming and ever expanding phase, and I ended up talking to the right people and over time, my interest grew and I got more active after I got divorced and started thinking on a new level.

I was always drawn to those who had more experience than myself by decades; so I gravitated to men and couples in their 30s and 40s when I first got started. I don't think 20 is too young, I think you need to have a good grasp on who you are and who you want to become and not still be 'finding' yourself. This might be a good step to discovering who you are, yet your ultimate path still is infront of you.  I think jumping in blindly and not beign aware of what this is really about and not taking time to educate yourself is where the problems lay, regardless of age.

Just because UMs exposed to things at an early age via the internet doesn't mean they can handle the information.

The "young" will  always insist that they are "old enough" ....  until they get into trouble.

wisteriaV -> RE: Appropriate Age? (10/24/2007 12:49:06 PM)

According to the legal system of the USA age 18 is legal age. This is because the military can force you into serving and dying for  the country if need be. Now drinking/smoking ages may vary from state to state.

Unfortunately, this is true.  I've always figured they were of the "get them young enough before they know better" concept.   Testosterone is a terrible thing to waste when it comes to aggression.

Bang an age limit on it and everyone will want to try it. I dont think maturity comes with the length of time that you have been alive for. Some people at 20 will be far more mature and know what they want than others. Thats life. I have always noticed it about people my own age group and have always found it easier to get on with people a lot older than myself.

mtl146687 -> RE: Appropriate Age? (10/25/2007 12:30:06 PM)

thanks all for your answers, I dont think the legal age thing was ever the question, I think its more when I go to munches, and worry about what people may think, (ie some horny college kid just trying to get a fix) which of course is far from the truth, however like someone mentioned I just have to develop a thick skin.

I cant help but think people will be like "whos that kid?" But luckily Im pretty social regardless haha.

I am currently 21 ... I guess I'm fortunate to be interested in older men... makes it REALLY easy to find a decent match... my partner right now is 17 years older than me.

I agree that beyond 18+ there is no real age that is "too young"...

Its just really a matter of looking around, finding the right people...

My good friend is male and 19, and in the scene... thanks to his baby role play thing, he has a very easy time finding a "Mommy" to nurture and play with...

There are a HUGE number of GORGEOUS older women (even without the mommy mentality) all over this site if its decided that you're ok with someone whos not in your age range...

and you might find that you learn a lot by playing with a 40-something who has years of experience in the scene... and the ability to push some limits.

Wait.I am 50......how come I am not an expert?.......damn!!!...:)

mtl146687 -> RE: Appropriate Age? (10/25/2007 3:41:39 PM)

That may be all well and true, but older dommes probably think Im just a young male trying to get a "fix." Which is far from the truth, haha only 10 more years till 30.[;)]

brendover -> RE: Appropriate Age? (10/25/2007 5:34:10 PM)

For those that attend them:  what sort of demographic do munches attract?  I'm in the same situation here; feeling like there really aren't that many compatible matches in my age bracket.

I guess I shouldn't complain, seeing as how there are far more "older" dommes looking for younger guys than vice versa, and I could see that situation working to my advantage.

Still, I think I'd feel awkward as hell attending a munch not knowing anyone to begin with, and even more so if everyone there turned out to be twice my age.

Vargus -> RE: Appropriate Age? (10/25/2007 8:30:57 PM)

When I went to my first munch I was 50, and I felt a little leary about it when I found that I was the oldest one there, but hey I still had a good time. It's wonderful to be around like minded people, age wise  your an adult, stop worring about what others might think and go out and have a good time.
