$1,274,500 would buy a nice house with some money left over for nifty quirts.

Oh, and a St. Andrew's cross.

ravenna -> RE: Does a slave have a price? (8/2/2005 11:18:45 PM)

i'm usually the one taking the serious topic of the day frivolously, so tonight i think i'll be the one taking the frivolous topic seriously. (Surprise!) My master does inform me i am priceless, not just in the romantic sense (thank you, sir) but also in a technical sense, as he has promised me i will never be sold again, so i no longer have a price. But i have had a price in the past, in fact several prices: Every time i have changed hands i have been sold for a considerable sum of money. i have been the merchandise in a total of five transactions, including two in which i was technically free and therefore both the seller and the thing sold. Those are my only two sale prices that i know down to the dollar. (Where did the money go from the two times i sold myself, since after being sold i had no control over any assets? The first paid off all my student loans from college, the second is in a protected trust fund. None of the other sale proceeds went to me. i know some will think that's odd, but it doesn't seem odd to me: If you sell a horse, does the horse get to keep the money?) i have never been told my other selling prices with any exactitude, though i know the general price ranges in which i've been sold, and my master assures me my value has appreciated considerably over the years. i am very grateful to him for calling me priceless, and for so many other things, but now that i've turned thirty i can't help wondering how long my resale value as a used slave would have continued to climb; i sincerely hope i never have to find out! i'm sure such transactions are relatively rare, but since becoming part of CollarMe i've been in touch with a couple of other slaves who have each been sold in earnest, for money, at least once, and another who was once traded permanently for another slave, and various others have told me that money played at least some small part in their enslavement, for example a master paying off her debts or covering her relocation expenses, so i'm not the only one this has happened to; not to mention the booming business around the world in human trafficking for forced prostitution. My sales have differed from that slave trade in any number of ways, principally in that my enslavement has always been consensual, but there are some similarities too... And this concludes the non-frivolous portion of this evening's CollarMe programming, thanks for listening.

I really have to wonder how this works in a Western democracy in the twenty-first century. Is there a contract of sale? How are disputes mediated? And you say this was all consensual--but what would have happened if you had decided that you didn't like your new owner after all? Would you have been free to leave? (Legally, of course, you would have had to be.) But if there is no guarantee that a slave is going to stay, who in his right mind would pay a substantial amount of money for her? What would have stopped you from doing what Lamspeach and I were joking about: being sold to someone else, then running away and going back to your original master?

You're right, in this country unless you're really good at hiding people away and have lots of money, there's no security that you can keep a slave.

But there's no security a horse won't go wild or get sick either.

Going back to the original master would depend on what the slave were ordered to do. If I had been ordered to go and serve this other person and have them become my permanent master, that's what I would do.

My services have been loaned/traded/bought many times before, but I'm not really sure how the Owner would transact a full transfer of property.

jocelyn -> RE: Does a slave have a price? (8/3/2005 7:47:54 AM)

Hmmmm - I visited the "check your relative worth" site just to judge their criteria. I'm one of those strange ones who thinks that age increases worth, that penis size might be less important than IQ or emotional intelligence, and that making the planet a better place is of more value than collecting more of its pennies. Gotta love an outlyer!

Seriously, I'm worth quite a bit to Master. He'll live longer for having me in his life, will enjoy more comfort for having a clean, gently appointed castle, and, as for the relative worth of a blow job on demand - I suppose you'll have to ask him! [:)]

Blessed be -

jocelyn

ravenna -> RE: Does a slave have a price? (8/3/2005 7:50:00 AM)

Hi EmeraldSlave2, thanks for chiming in. And what would have stopped me from running away? My orders and my training and my nature, which all concerned very well understood. And there were indeed contracts of sale and bills of sale and deeds involved, though whether they would stand up in court is naturally a moot point. But they weren't meant to; my sales were de facto, not de jure. Of course a slave can always run away, or try to, or make everyone's life miserable, but that's not the kind of slave i was trained (and made) to be. i hope with all my heart never to be sold again, but as his property it's my owner's right to sell me, and if he sells me i will go and serve my new owner, whoever he or she might be. (My owner assures me this is now a purely theoretical discussion, and i trust his word.)
