In the 2000 election, I really had no idea who Bush II was (what kind of politician, man etc).

I did have a very bad gut feeling about the whole situation.  After being a republican for 22 years, I immediately switched parties.  I never really took interest in politics until that point.  The sense of impending doom was that great.  I still get the creeps when I see him on TV.  This morning he is addressing the Heritage Foundation and this feeling is surging again.  Hurry up 2008 is all I keep thinking.

Anyhow, the purpose of this post is to ask.. Did anyone else have such a strong reaction/premonition  when this guy first hit the presidential venue?

Yup........the only thing that really concerns me in a US presidential candidate is foreign policy. His noises on that issue bespoke an utter lack of knowledge about the world at large. The whole Iraq thing just confirmed his ignorance.

Definately. The invasion of the Non-Cons is what caused me to leave the party as well. Instead of switching, I just remain a conservative independent. I watched some of that news conference and got that creepy "we are going to step in shit yet again" feeling as well.

Phil, me too.
I don't want Troops all over the world or Imperialism either.
But also, I don't think the US should be "helping" foreign countries either.
Seems "the world" gets mad at us for intervening in foreign countries but Oh my God, don't do anything that would stop all those "Foreign Aid" checks!
You can't have it both ways, "non-intervention" means just that.

Lotus, why did you switch partys?
Bush is NOT a Republican nor is he a "Conservative."
Big business snuck "their guy" in!
Bush is a scion of "The Wealthy" in this country.
He went to Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts and "YALE" University.
What did you "think" was going to happen?
Did you think he was "one of the people?"

Lotus, why did you switch partys?     <---- Just to distance myself

Bush is NOT a Republican nor is he a "Conservative."
Big business snuck "their guy" in!
Bush is a scion of "The Wealthy" in this country.  <-----  And the start of our "end"
He went to Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts and "YALE" University. <-- yup, I heard that he spent an afternoon at each :)

What did you "think" was going to happen? <-- I had no idea.. just a great scense of forboding.  It's a woman's intuition thing.

Did you think he was "one of the people?" <--- Hell Popeye, he isn't even human.

This post is to just see who had a similar forboding.  When I looked into his eyes.. I saw no soul. Now I know why.

I'll just take this comment as a tongue in cheek jest :)

Yep, however I try to distance myself from politics.  Somewhat.  I vote differently every election.  Writing in names on my ballots is sort of the norm for me.

Putting politics aside I don't know we will ever have another president in my lifetime that does not do us such harm as a country it takes years to rebound.  There is so much criticism.  Back in the days of pre-Kennedy that wasn't so.  They did us harm as well it wasn't on such a huge level as it is now.

I'm waiting for the prelimiaries to be in.  So I can decide who not to vote for and hope there is one left over.
Doubtful but its how I do things.  My vote goes for the person the least harmful overall.

Just my opinion on politics.  I know people don't have the same views...and frankly I don't care.
