I'm sorry if this has been brought up before, but I did a search and couldn't find any threads related to this.

I recently earned my permanent collar, and it's a beautiful, simple custom-made sterling silver collar. At the moment it's not secured on, though it will be. I asked to wait on having it permanently attached because I am flying for Thanskgiving and wasn't sure if I would have any issues with it going thru the metal detectors. I'm flying alone (I made holiday plans before I met Master) and I wouldn't worry as much if he would be with me, but that's not the case here. Has anyone had any airport security problems with permanently attached metal collars?

silver should not be a problem...but just to be safe i would suggest requesting to be allowed to wear a non metal collar, with no metal fastenings while flying and then being allowed to put your permanent collar on once you've gotten some place safe, so you don't have to take it on and off while going through security if it does set off the metal detectors...

I go though airline security everyday for work.

Some metal will not set it off. But you can never tell until it's too late.
A girl I work with she would set it off just from the pins in her hair.

Silver or the metal they use in body jewelry is your best bet all the way. If you do go off. You can explain you can not remove it. They might not look too kind on it. But what can you do? As long as you can prove it will not harm yourself and others. You should be okay.

Going though security is already tons of fun during the hoildays. With your case I would give yourself tons of time just in case things go south.

I think they are used to attached jewelry setting off the alarm. Tell them it is permanent and they may do a hand search ... but that isn't so bad really, a little fondle prior to the flight can be fun.

They will use the handheld. I know some, and of some others who have so many piercings that if hat pins and the like will set it off, so will they.

So they hand scan you, try this with a chastity belt !. You might as well just tell them at the gitgo to take you into the room. They will need to see that something of that size is not covering anything up, that is if they are doing their job.

As far as not being able to remove it, I have a suggestion that might just work. (I think fast on my feet). Tell them that the special wrench to remove it is left at home because it is silver and very valuable, and you don't want it stolen. You forgot the wrench. It could be absolutely permanent, but they are not going to check it out most likely, they will probably just hand scan you and wave you through.

Now try that with a metal chastity belt and things do get a little bit stickier. I will never tell them but if you are wearing one of those you could hide something under it. But a collar is a different story. Even if you were to hide razor blades I think there would be an indication.

Even if you have the collar welded on, and there is no special wrench, you tell them that there is. They are not engineers, that is why they work there. You might not be able to fool me, but I do not work there.

If I did, CB wearers as well as collar wearers would be subject to one more thing. I need to get my fingers under there, to check for razor blades, little packets of oxygenators that might even make even sugar into an explosive, things like that. But that is me.

They only do what they are told, and the people who tell them are not all that smart. If you can handle being hand scanned, you should be alright. There are people with alot worse problems in this respect.

"Well, there is a wrench for that and I forgot it, I can't take it off right now unless you have a machinist here"

"OK, just stand there and spread your legs a bit".

Then they scan you and that is that. Happy flight.

Even if it does set off the detectors, they can tell what is dangerous and what isn't. My jackets always set it off, but they just scan the shoulders and be done with it. I've had jewelry do it too, and underwires. Never had anything mroe then a quick second scan done.

Thanks for all the advice. Normally I don't wear jewelry when I travel, though I do see a lot of people who do and don't have problems. Like I said, it's not secured on yet, which I asked for just in case I had an issue. After my trip it will be secured.

Even it you do have it permanently attached, since it is a collar you shouldn't have a problem with security as it is clearly visible.

But on a side topic - do you really think it is a good idea to walk around with a collar around your neck that you can't remove? I understand that it is a hot idea and I have my slave wear thick metal collars with padlocks all the time. But when she has the collar on even if we are together, we both carry a set of keys to the locks - just in case. I even have her practice unlocking the one collar that has the lock in the back and it can't be turned around to the front. Imagine being in a car accident that causes your airway to become blocked and the EMTs are scrambling to find a safe way to cut off your permanent collar without cutting off your head - all while you slowly suffocate to death. And your partner having keys doesn't change things when they are rushed off to the hospital with the keys in their pocket while you are still at the scene of the accident. I hope that by permanent you mean the illusion of permanent: meaning permanent unless there is an emergency.

Ok, I am a public safety person and have been in the BDSM lifestyle all my adult life. I see no problems with permanent jewelery at all as far as public safety concerns go. I would fully disclose before you step in through scanner that "I have permanent jewelry". Step through, it will beep, and you will get a wand scan. Don't disclose that you have the tool or key in a cary on or they may make you take it off.

As far as medical concerns, well a tool or key may be a good idea, but fire/EMS and hospital personnel can remove anything, if necessary. Something to keep in mind if you end up in jail for some reason, all piercings and jewelery, basically every thing will have to be removed. You get one chance to remove it and then it will be removed for you, even it it has to be cut off.

Metal chastity belts and devices might cause some issues, you may be delayed and escorted to a secured screening room and have a show and tell session. For travel, I reccomend the plastic CB type devices with a plastic numbered seal.

Do not put BDSM items in carry ons. Put them in checked baggage and put intimate items in clear plastic bags, unless you want someone touching them. Remove all batteries from devices.

It is illegal to carry restraints, (handcuffs), into secured areas. In some states posession of more than 6 sex toys maybe be illegal.

We just traveled by air, my wife took off her collar and placed it on top of her items in the tray.I forgot to remove my Stainless Thor's hammer I made and my heavy silver bracelet. I had no problem passing thru the metal detector but my wife had to move to a glass enclosure and be wanded. The security guard moved the wand very quickly and stopped at my wife's crotch repeatedly and asked her what she has down there. My wife kept saying it's her underwire bra and she should scan slower because she is overshooting the beep. Another matron was called in and another pat down was done. At this point my wife started to lift her sweater when they said no no no and let her pass. I did have a problem once but that was my fault. It's funny now but not at the time. As soon as I heard them yell "I got one" I knew I was in trouble. To make things easier at the metal detector, I placed my pocket watch in the zippered compartment on my carry-on along with my other metal objects. When it went thru the x-ray, it showed the watch laying on top of some Marzipan candy sticks wrapped in aluminum foil. So it must have looked like some kind of timer explosive device. The candy was for my dad and I had to tell him that story when giving it to him. I saw a joke once where it was proposed that everyone travel naked for security reasons... now that could be interesting.

I FedEx everything I can to hotels now. They don't steal my toys or paw my undies. And no baggage claim! Can get pricey, but having the toybag there intact is worth it.

I remember doing the same inspections in Heathrow in the '70s and '80s- they were so polite, and so practical. It's terrible that a member of the public should be so paranoid about wearing what the general public would percieve as a piece of silver jewelry to fly. We all know that if you check jewelry you'll never see it again after the Homeland is made secure by looting suitcases.
It's useful to keep one foot in the vanilla world for exactly that reason- people aren't collared, they just wear jewelry. And you can stack on all the bling you want and still fly, although trains look better and better...

Thanks for the advice on permanent jewelry. My collar is loose enough for me to get my entire hand through it, so I am not worried about any issues in an emergency, but I trust my Master to make that decision. And I know all about flying with toys. On this trip, I'm not bringing any toys since I am traveling alone to visit my sister, so there won't be any play opportunities. But normally, when Master and I travel, we don't bring toys. Master has a devious enough mind that he doesn't need traditional whips and paddles to torture me with.

I have thought about having a slave collar,chastity belt ,and maybe even a metal butt plug locked on me and i be forced to go through the airport .It would be so humiliating when i set the detector off,and have to explain why.We all know i will be taken to one of those rooms wnere i will be forced to show the guards.I cant imagine the level of humiliation ,but it would be pretty bad,but i want to experiance it

I wear a metal chain with a padlock.
Before going through security I point to my collar and say, 'My necklace is going to set off your metal detector'. Everyplace has slightly differant ways to handle it - from using the handheld to having me face the nearest camera and hold my collar up for the camera to see - but I have certainly never been fondled.
It has been removed twice. Once when I was arresy d for a minor traffic violation (I was probably in jail for all of an hour, but, nonetheless, they did remove it) and recently during a hospitalazation it was required to come off. I have been hospitalized several times since it went on and most times do not require it to come off. I also wear a slave bell anklet that is permanant if you don't count all the time it falls off!
Both times I have had mine removed, they waited for Master to bring them the key. But, in an emergency - although it is as loose as you mentioned - if it needed to be cut off, Master would not have an issue with that.
I have other friends who wear an eternity collar who carry an allen wrench in their wallet for emergencies, but I would not consider a day to day pass through a metal detector an emergency.
