The Communist Chinese can't discuss reality.

Shi Tao was sent to jail for 10 years for engaging in pro-democracy efforts deemed subversive after Yahoo turned over information about his online activities requested by Chinese authorities.

At the last Illuminati meeting, I thought we decided just to wait until the day before, and announce an impending asteroid strike, so that we could call at the National Guard and impose martial law?

Ooops  ...

Never mind.  uh .... that all justa joke folks.  [:D][8|][8|][8|]

I suspect someone got wind of the plans and he had to change the schedule.  I think the fallback was to call for martial law during the "Peak Oil" crisis, but darn... I never can remember the date for that.  [;)]

You know, I might be the only person who has some sympathy for Yahoo in this case.  How can they ask their employees to resist a demand from a Chinese law-enforcement which was LEGAL in China?  This committee session was a big demonstration by politicians who don't have the balls to challenge China themselves, so they pretend that it's Yahoo's responsibility.  Yahoo is supposed to violate Chinese law in order to please Congressman So-and-so?

Besides, as people are implying, it's not as though our own government hasn't made similar requests of internet-service providers.  Ah, but that's in the name of "fighting terror"...  I forgot; that makes everything OK.

Did you get your training done in the UN Black Helicopters yet?  Those infrared spot lights are great for targeting unaware people on the ground!

The same way a Frenchman would resist a demand from a Nazi law-enforcement which was LEGAL in Germany.

Just because it was LEGAL to report Jews, didn't make it right. And the GOOD FRENCH didn't rat out Jews.

So, YAHOO is *EXACTLY AS EVIL* as the Chinese Government.

kdsub -> RE: While YOU Can Discuss Conspiracy Theories (11/6/2007 4:36:18 PM)

I do believe the Chinese…ruling party anyway…. worship money just as much or more than free world capitalists. If yahoo had refused to comply they would not have arrested Yahoo executives or curtailed their business in anyway.

They just ran a bluff and greedy old Yahoo gladly gave them what they asked.

I'm scheduled next week right after the briefing on the progress of the RFID chip program.   Sounds cool... I can't wait!  [:D]

You're partially right. I can only imagine that the yahoo execs agonized over this whole episode for weeks, and that they're still highly upset about it. It appears that they had little choice in the matter, and I certainly don't begrudge them.

Grandstanding politicians are just that, too. One good thing is that they brought this to light at least. I mean, I know that this kind of thing is commonplace in places like Red China, but I tend to forget about it in my busy daily life, that there are people rotting in Communist prisons merely for wanting a taste of the freedom that I take for granted every day.

As far as your accusations that the U.S. Government makes similar requests, that's pure horse shit. You would face going to jail just for saying that in China, but here in America you say it without even thinking about it - no bravery is required. Say that and worse all day long, go ahead. You can, because this isn't China.

They could have always refused.

Hey, is Yahoo giving the Burma/Myramar Authorities Intel to round up troublemakers? They did it once. Why not again?

Wouldn't the Yahoo employees in China be prosecuted if they refused?

And I don't know which would be worse for the Chinese, the loss of the use of the Internet itself, or continuing to allow its limited use with providers like Yahoo and Google acting in cahoots with the Communist regime there. I really don't.

interesting stuff

At a conference in Spain in 1995 that culminated in the Seville Strategy, the Biosphere Program underwent a radical change in purpose. The first goal of the Seville Strategy for Biosphere Reserves is to "promote biosphere reserves as a means of implementing the goals of the Convention on Biological Diversity." U.S. State Department representatives agreed to this new framework of UNESCO-designated guidelines and objectives for the Man and Biosphere Program. So, even though the United States doesn't belong to UNESCO, and even though the U.S. Senate refused to ratify the Biodiversity Treaty, the United States is marching right ahead with UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Program. Starting with Yellowstone National Park in 1979, UNESCO has designated 47 Biosphere Reserves in the United States covering 50 million acres. In order to designate sites and spheres under either of these UNESCO programs, the United States must agree to manage these lands according to international dictates and objectives. That's another way of saying that the United States has agreed to limit our sovereign power to manage our own lands any way we want in pursuit of our own national interests. The Clinton Administration's designation of Yellowstone Park as a World Heritage Site "in danger" has already been used to shut down a gold mine near (not even in) Yellowstone.

Standing up for what's right can be a bitch.

Well, to be fair, it's nothing worse than AT&T, Verizon et. al. unlawful warrantless domestic surveillance programs. Which, if prosecuted, would result in fines which would put AT&T, Verizon, et. al. into receivership.

Oh does that conveniently fit into a thread I just started!    IMO the methods are just different here the result is the same :)   but this is a democracy after all :)  {i just might have to forgive that asshole clinton yet}  :)

Not yet. For now, all dissent is sent a few blocks away from any media in the Free Speech Zone.

So, how often do you go to prison for standing up to the evil Bush

No trial first, farglebargle?

And China is spying internally for political speech, while the President is spying on international terrorist communications.

Quite a difference.
