Hey everyone.

I am having Weight Loss Surgery (WLS).  Of course, with the rapid weight loss, I will have loose skin.  Plastic surgery is at least three years away, if not more.

How will the loose skin affect BDSM play?  More specific to my kinks, I like cupping, will this be possible afterwards?  Will pain feel different through less fat?  Do I have to watch out for needle play or cuttings on loose skin?

Anyone gone through this and have words of wisdom? :-)

I haven't gone thru it, but I checked it out for a friend in the relatively recent past.  Loose skin doesn't bounce back from injury as quickly as firm skin, so you have to be diligent in checking for infections following wounds.  Most of your loose skin will be on your stomach, your upper arms, your legs (for some people inner thighs, for others, outer thighs).  Your back and your butt won't be as loose, and may not be loose at all, so if that's where you like the attention, you won't have to worry about that.

If you can exercise, particularly stretching type exercises (Pilates, yoga) AND strength training (lifting weights on a machine) then you will have less loose skin than someone who does not exercise.

Pain will feel different with less fat.  Start slow and see how it goes.

In fact, that's the best advice for ALL of the things you like... start slow.

December 20th.  Which means I have a while before I have to deal with the loose skin, and i'll also be working out, but the skin is inevitable. :-)

Hi Stacy

Between July of 2005 and July of 2006 I lost 140 pounds.  I had a lot of loose skin although not a ton of it.  I have had 2 rounds of plastic surgery and will be having my last one in December.  As someone else here mentioned, you cannot know the integrity of your skin until you get there.  Work out, drink plenty of water and the results may be better than you think.

One of the things that has to be paid attention to is the condition of the skin.  Being that it has been compromised by the weight loss it will be thinner.  If there are rashes after the weight loss then that skin also tends to tear.  Please be very careful about that when playing in any capacity.  If you are having a skin breakdown I would suggest getting it treated before playing.

Good luck with your WLS!! Take care of yourself during your journey.

Hi Stacy
congratulations on your decision..you are about to begin quite a journey..and I wish you the best of health and happiness.

there is a great site / forum  that is a huge source of information and strength
   obesityhelp.com
if you haven't already checked it out> I highly recommended the site.  Many WLS people there.

You are wise to be realistic about all the many changes your body will go through and that you will be making in the future..

with re: to the changes it may cause in your kink/lifestyle/intimacies
a couple things I never anticipated:
the excess skin looses feeling/sensativity sometimes in some people.. and is more prone to bruising.
also   you may be on certain medicines for a while that alter the way your blood thins...be very careful.

vitamins will become an important part of your life, and energy levels will fluxuate for at least the first year.

hormones!!!  ok  ...here is a fact I didn't know until I experienced it>
when stored up fat ( as in the kind thats been there for years and was the stubborn fat that other diets didnt remove> but WLS immediately effects ) begins to release>>  toxins are released..hormones fluxuate ....emotions run high and low...
You will experience an imbalance about that for a while and those around you ( ie  dominants if you are in a Ds dynamic and authority or power transfering based relationship ) will need to be aware that this is something you are not in control of really..

there will be much to consider..but that will happen gradually..
my biggest advice is to have and rely on a supportive group of people ( or women) who understand and can offer healthy support and outlets.

first and foremost>
do what your doc and nurses tell you ..drink all the water youre instructed to drink and vitamin regamine.

and  embrace yourself now as well as what will be changing in the future.

please feel free to contact me through email, if you would like..or would like to chat further.

smiles
Cyndi

i am so excited for you!! i wish you the best of luck with this.  Please take care of yourself and fallow all the instructions the doctors give you.
i have been wanting to do the WLS for years.  i have researched it for about 5 years now and i think that the benifits way outway the risks.

First off, best of luck with your surgery. I hope that all goes well and that you bounce back quickly.

As a side note... you may also wish to sign up with MTF as a skin donor: http://www.mtfeinformation.org/

The number of people requiring skin grafts outweighs the number of people dying and donating. As a result, the MTF (Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation) will accept tissues from those who have dropped a considerable amount of weight and have been left with excess skin, provided they meet whatever criteria the foundation has in place for donors.

I don't know whether or not they'll remove the flesh for you or if you're expected to undergo plastic surgery and then donate. I suspect you'd have to contact them with those concerns. But it never hurts to check it out. And you may be helping a burn victim or two in the process.

I have seen that website, and if I do have my plastic surgery in the US, I will be inquiring about it at that time.

(I also giggle every time I see MTF Foundation :-)

I've had gastric bypass. There's nothing to worry about doing different things to loose skin. It still functions the same. Although, you'll find that it can get 'caught' under you when you lay down somtimes. You'll find things feel different with less padding and, if you're like me, you'll find it hard to get used to how much easier you are to move, physically. I'm still shocked at times when someone pushes or pulls me and can move me. I'm also still fascinated by the fact I can get my fingers looped all the way around my wrist and the feel of my collarbone.

Best of luck with your surgery. For me, it was the best decision I've EVER made and that includes my two divorces! I'm healthier at 36 than I was at 26.
