I have a question. I have seen many people refer to "gorean". I am assuming it's a lifestyle? What is it?

If you click on "search" at the top of the page and put in Gor or Gorean, then change the search to topics and subjects, you will find plenty of thread on it.

Gor is a Fantasy Book series that is very explicit about how women should treat and serve men. Slavery, bondage, protocol, and service to ones Master are intertwined with plots of good versus evil in a sort of "Beast Master" time and world. Note that the slavery/submissivness is not considered evil but just the way of life for this Fantasy World. The evil fought mostly comes from ruthless dictators who like to cheat, swindle, and kill. This series that the writter has made has given many dominants and submissives a sense of protocol and rules that go with there own ideas or give them extra creative ones.

The books aren't that hard to find online and can also be found at a 1/2 price book store. Other than that, a good library should have alteast a few books from the series. Even if you find yourself not likeing the "Gor" Lifestyle yourself, it's still not all that bad to get an idea or two. Just be sure to read the books and never watch the "B" movies made for it.

Ok so it's a lifestyle based on books? That's unusual. huh. I'm curious about everything and this is just another thing I know nothing about.I'm not sure it helped (at least til I read the books) but thank you for anwsering!

Gorean philosophy takes its name and its inspiration from a series of books written by John Norman. Please note that real time Goreans are not roleplayers or living in a fantasy world. The philosophies include responsibility, personal strength, honor, and truth. One may follow the philsophy of Gor without Owning a slave or being Owned.

Yup, you don't see that very often...except for those Chirstians, Muslims, Jews and anyone else who ascribes to a religion with sacred texts.

Actually old son, you are not strictly correct there. I know quite a few “Real Life” Goreans or if you will “Gorean Lifestylers” and some like me also role-play in Gorean Chats. Perhaps it may be better to say the Those who live a Gorean Lifestyle done dress up and play at being Goreans on the weekend, but live their lives based on a philosophy contained in the Gor Books. (Mind you this philosophy was transported to Gor by Norman from several cultures on Earth and highlights Honour, Strength, Honesty, Discipline and a conglomeration of several martial philosophies.) No we don’t ride tarns and attack our enemies with swords or have slave raids on the nearest mall on a busy Saturday (What a bloody good move it would be.. I can see the crowded slave auctions at the end of the day ). Generally us Gorean Lifestylers are just like the rest of you, we just have a slightly different code that’s all.

I think Gor is full of rubbish.

This my personnal thoughts on it so if you want to flame me on it make a new thread instead of hi-jacking this just to flame me.

Masterbating?

I give links to sites about Gor. Good sites not stupid sites just for online idiot masters of Gor.

I do think it is full of rubbish but its my personnal view. I had actually made a thread about people posting in forums not of their role in the lifestyle and everyone was happy about it

so if you dont like it leave

You will find an excelent thread in the "General BDSM Discussion" Forum entitled "Gor - What is it?" by Voltare and an excelent post by Erusvi (2nd post in the thread)...

http://www.collarchat.com/Gor_%2D_What_is_it%3F/m_767/tm.htm

I sugest you have a good read of the first two posts as they will answer your question. Its also a good thread to ask any further questions in anycase.

Ok it seems that you misread my post there a tad. . What I was saying that the codes that a Gorean lives by is found in the books and thus is a little different to what most of the non Goreans live by, thats all. No biggie.... I probably should have worded it a little more clearly.

Seeing how things appear to be getting somewhat heated, I'm copying a post I made in another thread in another forum in some hope that it may be read and at least thought about. Its totally off the subject but .......

Y’know one of the things which amuse me is watching people interact. Some, when they have others not agreeing with them, look at what the opposition is saying and reply to the comments made in an adult manner without any animosity or personalisation. Others sadly looks at what the opposition has said and then embark on personal attacks, showing absolute disregard for another’s right to have a different opinion and a lack of respect for the opposition (whom they probably don’t know sufficiently to make any sort of character judgement). I was taught and teach a simple philosophy: “Attack or challenge the subject, idea or opinion, not the person.” Amongst all my friends and acquaintances both personal and professional, I have yet to find one person I agree with all the time. Even when we are at opposing ends of the table, I value and respect each opposing comment and the person making them. Here, there are many who post who I don’t always agree with, but I enjoy each and every post they make. Why? Because they don’t attack people but they do get their points across without malice. I’m always open to having somebody change my stance and if not then I’ll usually “Agree to disagree.”

Pax vobiscum
