Hi folks,

I'm looking for information about a D/s based lifestyle but with religious overtones for my pet. It's a thing she finds hardest to deal with, being a very religious person. To her the two just do not mix. Any pointers to websites dealing with this would be much appreciated.

Paul talks about women being submissive to their husbands in many of his letters to the church. I think of my relationship with a Dominant as a mirrored relationship between myself and God. I am submissive to God and I am also submissive to my partner.

The Catholic church has a history of masochistic pentance sort of practices. I'm not Catholic so I don't really know anything in great detail.

But there you go....

I have a very religious background and my view of D/s and religion fit nicely together. Actually I wrote a little journal entry about it if you'd like to show it to your submissive. It mentions a Bible verse I find particularly submission inspiring.

I would suggest doing a search of topics on collarme. There were a couple of exceptional threads dealing with this. Try the search words "Golden Rule" and "spirituality". Hopefully someone (like proudsub) will post the links for you in case you cannot find them yourself. I am sorry but I do not have the time right now to locate them Myself.

If you are Christian, and into domestic discipline of the Maledom/femsub variety, there are a number of biblical quotes to support that position: http://www.bdsm-education.com/christians.html

If you are of a different faith, or just want to sample how different people have merged BDSM with their spirituality, you might want to look at Sensuous Sadie's Domain. She has an extensive section of interviews, articles, quotes, links etc dealing with Spirituality & BDSM.

One note, the persons she interviews and the articles she has present viewpoints that are very differnent from one another. So you might have to sample many before you find an author you are comfortable with.

Like many have said, it depends on the religion you're looking at and part of. I have no problem with witchcraft and my power dynamic.

OK, I have to say this, then I will get back on topic...

Be Episcopalian...all the pomp and circumstance, half the guilt! Had to...Sometimes I miss my grandmother so much. That was her favorite saying. (yes, she was Episcopalian)

Ok, back O/T-I know that a lot of subs deal with guilt factor. What little I know of the Bible seems to encourage women to be submissive to men. I might be off base, but thats the impression I remember having. There are many threads and many places. Castlerealm.com is another that has several articles on religion and D/s.

Keep us posted-

Well from what I know of RC- they don't have much at all to say on floggings, whippings, massages and kinky stuff does it?

As long as it's a male/female legal marriage, and sex without protection and for the primary purpose of procreation (though I believe they've softened on that to some extent) then what's the problem?

If it's NOT a male/female legal marriage involving sex...then there's a problem.

But I don't really think RC has much to say on the godliness of floggings any more than it does on the subject of driving a car.

Likely, as June noted, she's just got a whole guilt complex of doing "naughty things" and being true to herself...and that just takes time, slow explorations and lots of reassurances that she's a big girl now who needs to decide what's best for her, not what she was spoon fed growing up. Show her that she can stay true to herself and her beliefs at the same time.

It seem to me if my memory is correct that there were many Christian Holy Men who used to head off into the deserts and flagilate themselves to aattain purity. Its the "Mortification of the flesh" concept. I do know there still are sects who practice flagilation in Europe and probably somewhere in the Middle east. Its been a long time since I had to do any reading on other religions to any degree..... I immagine that it all depends on intent. Anyway that's my two task bits worth from a Pagan Old Fart.

I am not sure about any official pronouncements, but the the nuns at our local Franciscan Spirituality Center give massages. Apparently they see the connection between body and spirit.

I think the Passionist order still tolerates self-flagellation, although its not something they like to talk about. Reportedly, the lay group Opus Dei engages in a bit of the self-flogging too.

But yes, I think the mainstream, official Church position is as you say: M/F sex, only after marriage, without contraception.

Are you looking for religion or for spirituality? There are many who view SM as an important spiritual component to Leather. Check out some of the greter Leather events like Together in Leather (TiL) http://togetherinleather.org/

The conflict within her is to do with her "faith" rather than the religion itself. Whether that translates to spirituality, I'm not sure as yet. Even though we've known each other for 6 years, this issue has only just reared it's head, and even though I don't subscribe to the structured religions, I too have my personal beliefs and faith.

What I'm trying to do is arm myself with that most powerful weapon.. Knowledge, hence the initial post.

My thanks to those who've posted. I now have many hours of reading to wade through.
