Well, I don't have anyone to take my stress out on so I have to find alternatives.

Just about anytime outdoors or with my furry babies does wonders for me. Even scooping horse poo out of the barn with them breathing over my shoulder. There is something about the physical activity and being close to nature that is very calming to me.

In the winter, I often go stand on the east side of the house and do a little bit of yoga. It is usually early morning or later in the evening, when it is dark. Looking out over the valley, stars, maybe the beginning of a sunrise, owls, coyotes. Very quiet except for the sounds of nature. It will bring me back to a calm centre within seconds.

Blowing my hate paste onto a paper plate and contemplating it usually does it for me.

Last week, I had an overwhelming need for some relief, so a lady acquaintance I have recently met suggested that I let her paddle me.

Not to hijack that thread i thought i'd start another.

I'm curious if there is any activity that specifically relieves your stress?
For example as soon as Sir puts a knife to my skin i can feel any stress i have been feeling just melt away.

Do you think there is any reason that this one act works better than another?
For me I think a little like a self harmer who cuts themselves, i feel like my stress is being let out when Sir cuts me.

The second best stress reliever I know is a long motorcycle ride on the backroads.

If you have to ask what the first best is, you are too young to know.

.... Quote from Xandor the Mad who was known to stand on the seat of his motorcycle going down the Florida Turnpike doing a nuchaku kata in time to the music.

Their brains release dopamine when they run…and, oddly…when we get beat, our brains also release dopamine.

Err... not directly. There is a dopamine response to novel stimuli, pleasurable stimuli, unpleasant stimuli, and generally anything that your brain thinks it should pay attention to. And there's a dopaminergic cascade downstream from the opioid system, which is what these things were actually thought to push in the first place... not the dopamine system directly. Currently, it'd seem like it's a cannabis-like substance instead.

quote:

Dopamine is the drug-like hormone that acts so much like heroine, that at least one researcher is known to make the comment “Who knew so many runners were heroine addicts!”

No. You're thinking about endorphins. And, apparently that's disputed now, too.

In either case... does it matter?

It works.

Health,
al-Aswad.

My brain is mind-altered anyway...............

LostMyself -> RE: Stress relief (11/14/2007 6:12:38 PM)

endorphine rush.  HUGE endorphine rush.

CreativeDominant -> RE: Stress relief (11/14/2007 6:23:40 PM)

I have found that when I really need to relieve stress, I have to do something physical.  Since I don't have a submissive partner living near or with me, I have found that doing body work or wrenching on my hot rods helps a lot.  Like several others here, I also like to get on the cycle and just riiiiiiiiiiiiide.  Sometimes, turning on music that doesn't interfere with my brain but quiets it while I read something that really holds my interest helps.  Over the years since my divorce, I have found that the hour before bed each night where I can read or talk to a friend on the phone...with no interruptions from patient, from the ums, from salespeople, is very good at keeping my levels low without the spikes I used to get.

With most of us having thousands of posts, I'd think being online gives us something relaxing. You know how when you are around a monitor when someone else is using it, you have to look at it. It makes you want to check CM or some other unrelated site. Sometimes it may be chatting with others. Lots of stress relief in all this.

i have to echo the same as most people. a good beating which includes a great spanking helps me to relax.

as far as the driving goes...i tend to get in trouble when i take the surburban out at 100mph inside the city limits...or outside...there is not a stretch of road long enough in texas that there is not a county mounty or a super trooper or a cop from some podunk town that isn't itching to give out tickets...now if i still had my maxima...the accelerating to 130 could give me enough of a rush that i could slow it down to 80mph for the rest of the trip...but damned suburban doesn't have any pick up and go...grumbles...i need a bike...wait...no i don't...the way i change lanes in the tank, i'd be dead in a week...

MrThorns -> RE: Stress relief (11/15/2007 6:05:43 AM)

The greatest stress relief I have is just being at home with my pet.  I don't care if I'm giving her a flogging, sitting outside on the porch,  watching TV, going out to dinner... etc.  Just being around smilezz is one of the most soothing, relaxing stress relievers I could ever ask for.

(Might explain why I tend to be a bit of a prick when I'm away from home...)

The wonderful thing about tiggers
Is tiggers are wonderful things!
Their tops are made out of rubber;
Their bottoms are made out of springs!
They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy,
Fun! Fun! Fun! Fun! Fun!
But the most wonderful thing about tiggers is
I'm the only one!

Oh the wonderful thing about tiggers
Is tiggers are wonderful chaps!
They're loaded with vim and with vigor;
They love to leap in your laps!
They're jumpy, bumpy, clumpy, thumpy,
Fun! Fun! Fun! Fun! Fun!
But the most wonderful thing about tiggers is
I'm the only one!

Tiggers are cuddly fellas.
Tiggers are awfully sweet.
Ev'ryone else is jealous.
That's why I repeat and repeat:

The wonderful thing about tiggers
Is tiggers are wonderful things!
Their tops are made out of rubber;
Their bottoms are made out of springs!
They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy,
Fun! Fun! Fun! Fun! Fun!
But the most wonderful thing about tiggers is
I'm the only one!
