I made it for me.. then proceeded to lose 55 lbs so I could not wear it. So all those hours making it should go to use for someone.

Everyone who has seen it in person usualy drools on it.

Thanl you so much for all of the advice!!! I would one day love to own a really high quality and expensive corset, but right now it's just not in the cards.

Yeah I had bought two corsets from alter-ego with the intent of returning one to see which one I liked better and had no problem whatsoever. She even offered to custom size or design one for me... I have custom high dollar corsets from Dark Garden, the old Stormy Leather (WILL NEVER GO BACK NOW), and many other private corset makers. My partner and her husband are featured in Larry Utley's book Undressing the Corset. So trust me, I know my way around them. And quite frankly, not everyone can afford to or even wants to drop $200-$600 on a custom corset. After having mine made in the past, I'm no longer wearing them due to weight loses and changes in clothing style. So, AE does it for me now, and I treat them as costume clothing. Something, I don't mind spilling beer on, losing, having stolen, changes in weight or otherwise. If I get two or three wearings out of them that's great, but even now I'm going on almost two years with my first AE corset and it's still in amazing shape. And not for nothing, my AE corsets are the only ones to not have snapped boning on the immediate outside channels of my lacing. Most all my other corsets, Custom uber expensive ones included have all snapped there.

Is that boning poking through the fabric? or the boning itself snapped?

In either case it should not happen if done correctly.. unless you are super tight lacing it to death. Even then.. yikes.

I like using eyes < as in hooks and eyes> in double rows instead of gromets on my womens corsets. If you dont puncture the fabric.. there is no damage to it. Also the eyes can take a lot of wear and tear. ( it is what the Elizabethans used.. them are some smart people. )

With the eyes you dont have so much focused tugging on any one given spot for it to screw up the fabric, or cause boning issues.

I do agree with Gywn, should not be splitting at that seam! I've laced for over 20 years, and have only broken one corset, compliments of a TENS unit. Seriously, though, a really good corset for under 60 dollars is a dream one can only fill via good luck on ebay. Retail, even online will be over $130.00, and more likely over $200.00. I've had good luck with meschantes.com; waspcreations.com; C&S at staylace.com; and of course dark gardens. If you can find a maker who knows their work, that's a good alternative. Just be ready for "sticker shock" when you buy any good (read steel boned) corset.

Sorry one section over from the grommets. About 6 inches to the sides of the grommets. The steel boning snaps everytime... except my Alter-Ego and some of my newer custom corsets and I certainly do not overlace them. I can't deal with being too tight. The solution for the newer ones is pre-bending the steel.

Hmm they must have used the thinner steel boning then what I use.. I use spring steel.. and I have to do wicked things to the metal to get it to snap... I know I tested my new supplier before I ordered quanities from her.

I am a voulptous gal (42F size 18) so I have got to have some serious boning to hold the girls in. Never had a bit of issue with mine. You can always open up the seam on your corset, and slip in new steel into the channel. Just hand stich back over it. No need to not use it any more that way.

I lace, and use Lace Embrace corsets. They've done work for the Guiness Record holder, and are Victorian corsetieres. Steel boning, satin, silk, cotton, or leather corsets, and I found the prices decent. I also like supporting local (or nearly-local) small businesses, and they are based in Vancouver, BC.

MissyDoug do nice looking stuff; My two have come from Alter Ego and I've been very pleased. Get 'em off Ebay and for the money they rock!
With leather you really do have to put it on loose and let it warm befor you get to lacing; It makes all the difference. And they take several wearings to really conform. But they look soooo hot! And as a 42 E or F I love corsets over brassieres and am about to get one made, or at least start the cinch belt. Bondage freak, it keeps me happy at work to be corseted under that suit every once in a while...
There's another company on Ebay that sells underbusts in velvet- a lovely look, and you can do well on them in bidding. Steel boned, look well made. Do a search and see what's there. Things come and go.

OP, you could try saving up for a really good corset. :) that is what I am doing now. I am not a student, but am on a budget, so I have a $$ jar marked corset, that I put spare change, 5's and sometimes 10's. I am going to wait til I reach about $200 hundred then shop around, may even ask one of the local corset makers. **smiles**

On ebay you can "Buy It Now" on Meschantes brand underbust training corsets for $99 + shipping.

I covet them and I think in January I'll be finally buying one or two, as I want to get back to waste training.

I recently got one from http://www.timeless-trends.com and it is really gorgeous. I have wanted a corset for quite a while, but have never worn a real one. I hated to drop several hundred dollars on a custom one and then hate wearing it. All of theirs are $99 and they are very nicely made and, dare I say, comfortable. Since I do know that I like wearing one, I'll probably splurge on a custom one.

Try http://store.delilahscollection.com they are sheepskin leather corsets but extremely well made. I have one thats a underbust i wear ALL the time now, and only paid 35.00 for on ebay. Now with the site they run 65.00 ish. Well worth the money and you can get them in a large variety of colors and styles.
