I've never been to a BDSM brick and mortar "club" with a public playspace, but I am a member of a group that frequently has play parties where everyone brings their furniture, toys, etc and will share most with everyone. Obviously items that are related to blood, scat or urine play are not shared, neither are insertibles. However, I was wondernig how you go about disinfecting different items that could be shared -- and how about different fabrics?

Is the way you clean a leather covered spanking bench different than how you'd clean a suede flogger? How about latex or rubber?
I'm sure I've missed a couple of categories, so any info on anything not mentioned is very welcome too.

Janitorial companies have disinfectants, diluted bleach is used the most. Alcohol is also used. The bleach alternative is by far, the cheapest and very effective way to disinfect all furniture. The furniture should be cleaned after every use with alcohol and at the end of the playtime with the main solution. If you want a janotorial or hospital disinfectant, then go to the janitorial companies as I stated previously in my answer..

With most furniture like spanking benches, chairs ect you could cover them with some plastic.

Suede flogger I wouldnt share suede has to be proffessional cleaned. Even lysol would prob discolor it. smooth leather would be pretty easy to clean . Leather should be kept out of direct sunlight.

Leather should be cleaned regularly. First, use a soft cloth or micro-fiber cloth to dust the surface (figure A). Saddle soap works beautifully on leather.

Another option for cleaning leather is to take a damp cloth, wipe it across moisturizing soap and lather the leather. Don't rinse -- buff for a nice shine. also you can spray a water repelent on the leather to help protect it .

Sorry I dont know about rubber or latex.

I clean all instruments after use, particularly if the last user and the present user are different. There are a range of chemical preparations available.

A pharmacy or medical supply store will have the best disinfectants normally ranging from $10 to $20. Just look under Wound Care Supplies. Alcohol by itself is actually one of the poorist disinfectants on the market. Think of it as Advil compared to Codine. Vibrators are good to be cleaned with soap and water followed by a disinfectant spray. Latex products and Leather are best to be cleaned with a damp rag, cleaned with latex/leather agents, and then sprayed.

Master manages a on-site swingers/alternate lifestyle club here in La. and although i am not the house keeper or such i do tend to jump from position to position as needed and from my experience from this club....We change sheets after each persons play(all sheets are washed in bleach......everything is steamed cleaned reg. Condoms are a must not only for safty but saves us from having to clean up someones lol mess. We use alot of bleach and other disinfects...most we order but some we get at wal-mart and target depending on which area we are cleaning......Everything is always cleaned after each use....to protect all parties involved and all members.....SAFETY FIRST!

Greetings..~smiles~

I won't swear to this but somewhere in recent past I thought I read something in regards to "effective time" for disinfecting..meaning (i think it was a bleach based product i use at home) that in order for it to be the "claimed" 99% effectiveness against this that or the other, it had to be on contact for a set time before that was achieved..ie say a counter top.

The chemicals that are used in such play places, are these "effective times" noted and waited upon before allowing another to then use that item?

Very common in the public parties I get out to, is the use of disinfectant wipes (Lysol, or similar) for wiping down benches and other communal equipment. Generally, they are left to air dry, so there is at least some standing time for the disinfectant.

For best results regarding cleanliness you may wish to do research for yourself. Ask a doctor or a nurse. Find out what will work and what won't. Porous materials - or anything that may trap blood, sweat or other bodily fluids - are very, very, very difficult (if not impossible) to truly sanitize - at least not without ruining them beyond repair and/or future use. This includes suede floggers. You can't completely disinfect the toy without doing damage to it.

When in doubt you should probably have two categories of toys - single use (as in only to be used on one person) and multiple use (toys that can be shared safely, cleaned properly and sterilized).

I consider any and all insertables (gags, bits, vibrators, etc.) personal use (or single use) toys. I require those who are interested in having such toys used to own their own toys of this nature.

These things work for me well enough. But only you can set up your own health and safety guidelines.

At our parties, we spray all equipment down after use, with bleach/water (1-9 ratio) which is freshly made up before each party.
Anyone who shares toys such as floggers is, in our opinion, responsible for their cleanliness.
Leather is skin, therefore it is porous and cannot be disinfected.

The furniture we use is varnished wood and/or vinyl covered.
I also lay down a blankie under the boy before I place him on the furniture.
As for air drying, that's time consuming. I air dry my toys for a month before using them on different people. That's how long some things take to die (Hep C for example takes about 21 days).
Is our space 100% sterile.
No.
Does life have risks?
Yes.
However, I think you would be more likely to catch a cold at our parties than anything else.

We don't allow bodily fluids, esp blood, or insertions so that lowers the risks. It also lowers the fun, but that's life.

Risk Aware kids. Make your own assessment and if you don't feel it's safe, you don't have to play

All toys/furniture/etc is cleaned after *every* use by slave. Most can be cleaned eith a 60/40 bleach solution... make sure to try very well! Suede items are cleaned using products like Dryel...if you're brave and don't care who knows I suppose you could take it the dry cleaners! LOL Insertables should be cleaned with the same bleach solution used on furniture and other toys.

When buying or making new toys and such keep in mind the need to clean them and it will be much easier for your slave.

good thread.

As DLS said a cleaning solution will do for the equipment. Here the organizer of the party brings supplies.

Any insertables should always be condomized and unless it is a sex-positive event no exchange of body fluids is allowed....( so no anal oral; vaginal-oral and all that).

Always have some solarcane or anti-bacterial spray/ ointment available in case things get a little too enthusiastic.

I do not share my toys with differnt partners.....especially my wooden paddles....although treated the will retain moisture like crazy. Same for my velvet floggers. rubber and leather is easy to clean - so are acrylic canes......again I do not share wooden canes.
