mya75 -> Where would you go?? (11/22/2007 9:52:07 AM)

Hi,
This is a 2 part question just something I am curious about...If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why? Also where is your current location *approximate*?
As for myself currently I am in the U.S. and would love to live in London /Ireland something UK'ish......my reason is change ...I dont think just because we are born in the states that its such a wonderful place.....meeting a Dom who is not from the U.S nor trying to get here would be a plus! lol ....just my opinion

IrishMist -> RE: Where would you go?? (11/22/2007 9:53:32 AM)

Ireland...for obvious reasons...would be my number one pick
Italy...because my kids are part Italian...would be my second pick

I have a friend from Downpatrick *St Pattys birthplace if you havent looked it up on the web its pretty cool they have a virtual tour *or used to* she was showing me something called the giants chair..I guess there is a myth about a giant and there is a place by the ocean where you can see rock formations of what they believe are his belongings...kinda cool

bipolarber -> RE: Where would you go?? (11/22/2007 10:23:00 AM)

It's a toss up for me. Either New Zeland, because of it's booming film industry, or else San Francisco. SF is an obvious choice for anyone into sex or kink, I suppose. Since it really is the US mecca for such activities. A highly active scene, Folsom Street Fair... plus the city itself is just an amazing mix...

Where am I approximately? Central Arkansas. The armpit of the US. One of the most backward states in the union, sexually. One that's being held back from becoming at all worthwhile by religious fanatics.

I live in London.

Ideal places?

1.  London (oooh!  That’s handy!)
2.  South of France, somewhere between Carcassonne and Montpellier, away from the posher places like Cannes or Nice
3.  Northern Italy – Umbria, Liguria or Tuscany

Forgive my ignorance, but how are the fanatics doing that?  Is it one of those places in the US where the local legislature is stuffed brim-full of the repressed little sods?  Apologies, but I’m always keen to learn about various places in states; I used to live in Seattle as a kid (though I was born in the UK), and used to spend my teenage summers in north-eastern Ca.

Wasn’t ex-president Clinton from Arkansas?  He seemed pretty sexually liberal … or at least, he was a bit liberal with his … er … yes … let’s not go there, shall we.

DesertRat -> RE: Where would you go?? (11/22/2007 12:18:52 PM)

Southern France would be my first choice. I bet I'd like it in Italy or Spain. Since I have to stay here, I'm happy in this quiet, pretty, little canyon.

jadedserendipity -> RE: Where would you go?? (11/22/2007 1:04:19 PM)

Okay, I currently live in Florida on the northeast coast currently however if I had my choice I would go with one of two places.....

1. Greece
2. Tuscany, Italy

Both gorgeous places and I would really really love to live in either place....  [:D]

RF,

Generally, Arkansas is considered to be the "buckle" of what's known as "The Bible Belt" of southern states. Their laws are between 25 to 50 years behind the rest of the US. In fact, they only took the anti sodomy laws of the books here about two years ago. (i.e. they no longer prosecute homosexuals) The joke around here is that if we see a new building going up, it's either a church, or a bank... both being places of worship. And yes, you are quite correct, President Clinton is/was from Hope, Arkansas. But as we all know, the actions of the upper political class really don't have much to do with the bulk of the people they force their repressive laws on. (Do as I say, not as I do...)

There are a few small groups here. Nothing much to speak of. This is odd because our population is every bit as large as those of surrounding states, who DO have fairly healthy BDSM communities. For all intents, we should be as well as those in Memphis, or Oklahoma City, or New Orleans.... but the religious fundamentalisim running amok here affects the political process, and that leads to backward, repressive policies.

Politesub53 -> RE: Where would you go?? (11/22/2007 2:46:27 PM)

i currently live in Sussex England. i was raised in London.

i overcame a fear of flying and visited the Southern parts of America, mainly Arkansas Texas and Louisiana. i loved the food and the people and would like to see more of the USA. Canada, Australia and India are also places i want to visit.

Many thanks for the detail.

I have to ask though, do you not feel like moving?  That degree of repression would do my head in.  Or have you got it sweet there and it’s worth the hit on personal expression?  (although I’m trying to think of what someone would have to pay me to put up with that kind of crap and it’s a stunning figure).

Are there any laws specifically targeted against BDSM’ers, or is it more simply an overriding “moral” (how I despise that tonality in a word) blanket?

Thinking about it, it’s doubly weird, coz normally where bible bashers oppress, people get kinkier; as an example the largest number of prostitutes (per person) in London history was during the Victorian era, a mob not exactly known for their tolerant and inclusive ways.

Sinergy -> RE: Where would you go?? (11/22/2007 3:04:43 PM)

I grew up and live in Southern California.

I am about a year away from making class A as a longshoreman, allowing me to move anywhere on the Pacific Coast, including Anchorage.

The only thing keeping me in Los Angeles is the women's self defense I do.  When that is no longer an issue, I will probably be relocating temporarily or permanently somewhere in the Pacific Northwest; Frasier River, Vancouver WA, Seattle WA, Portland OR, Columbia River, Eureka, wherever.

In the words of a friend of mine, "I am so done with Southern California."

Well all the best to you, but having lived in Seattle, and having visited Eureka, why on *earth* would any sane person want to live there?  I mean they're ok I suppose, but dream locations?

And, out of interest, have you travelled outside the US?  Like to the south of France or Italy?  If it’s a more chilled out and "genuine" (down to earth) lifestyle you seek, those guys wrote the book.

Weirdly, if I had to settle in the states, from the places I've lived in so far, I’d probably choose So. Cal. … maybe “the grass is always greener” really *is* true :)  San Fran would do me nicely, but I'd miss London, miss France & Italy like mad, and wouldn't be able to get Cuban cigars, which would be a deal breaker :)

I lived in the Netherlands for two years.  I would go back, and recently had to turn down an offer for a contract gig in Amsterdam since I am still probationary as a longshoreman.

I need to move places that have an ILWU presence, but moving someplace like Eureka might not be too bad with a six figure income to support me there.

Eastern Europe.....cool climate, history, culture, cheap, women are top quality, loads of cities in close proximity, e.g. from Vienna you can get to Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Bratislava, Berlin, Munich, Prague, Budapest etc on a very cheap train in no time.....

I'm not from the US and have no intention of going there...so your opinion sits right with me!

chellekitty -> RE: Where would you go?? (11/22/2007 4:07:31 PM)
