I guess I just didnt see it like that. I didnt see any accusations of anyone being an out right liar - just some people making sure that what they were being told was true. Validation. I don't see that as total distrust or not wanting to learn about BDSM - it was just some people wanting to set their own minds at rest. I dont think it has (imo) anything to do with not wanting to learn or respect BDSM as a whole, but it does show how many people have been burned by the whole 'must do it this way' - or 'one true way' philosophy.

I don't know why people are the way they are. Nobody here wanted to verify it was really him. They wanted to take for granted it was someone but nobody wanted to check it out. When I said that I did I was called childish names. So, exactly who cared if it was him or just someone stealing his identity? Other than myself of course. Imtempting.
Fact is, his identity has been stolen and people here pushed it off to something of the sorts. If it isn't him eventually since he is sort of a public guy someone will notice. Correct, in time someone would notice. However, why not just ask him now and not go through all of it?
I didn't see anyone saying it should be done a certain way. Yes, there are people on these boards who do just that. However those same people are usually laughed at.
Please show me where someone claimed it had to be done a certain way.

I see it as people who do not care to learn about the lifestyle because they are blindly saying. "Everyone here lies, it is the internet, therefore I take no one at face value so no big deal"
By not taking anyone serious they are inhibiting themselves of learning. For as long as these board's have been here people have complained that no one takes their questions seriously. Now we know why.
I'm quite sure it is not any different than anywhere else on the internet. It is just when you communicate with people on a daily basis. Hear them say the same things day in and day out, I didn't assume they were all just spewing stuff to be talking.
I learn from people here. Now I have about a dozen or so I won't be learning from anymore.

A lot of people around here know that John Warren exists, and who he is, and that he is indeed not a player or a fake. That much can be established right out of the gate when he posted here for the first time.

You are absolutely right, though, that it could have just as easily been someone who ripped off his name. That thought crossed my mind, but was immediately followed up with "I'm sure someone who knows John has emailed him to say HEY -- welcome to the collarme boards, just wanted to make sure it was you."

About 3 people did that when I started posting here -- "just to be sure" -- not only because a lot of people share the name "akasha" on the net, but because tghey wanted to make sure the person posting here (me) was not being impersonated by someone. Why? Who the hell knows why. I do know that people *have* impersonated me, usually in chat rooms, but I imagine anyone who has a kinky web site is at risk for that. I bet a lot of people just pick a hot lifestyle femdom's site loaded with sexy pictures and then go on a chatroom saying they are her to get guys to do anything from send cash to write wank fantasies. So it is generally more alarming to me that someone would even try to pretend they were me, since my site is all text and there are plenty more tasty femdoms with pics on the web to impersonate. But it does happen.

Bottom line? If someone is posting as akasha from the site in my sig I don't think it's at all out of line to contact me to double check. In fact, it's something I appreciate.

Akasha

mnottertail -> RE: Another wise man in our midst, Mr. John Warren (8/15/2005 6:44:18 PM)

Shit, all the fun has went out of this post. I agree with Aakasha or if you prefer as you sign Akasha. Could be a wank if you don't know him. But for those who don't know him personally.....(and I don't) a couple indications (not verification) that he probably is not an all out fake is easily induced from simply examining those artifacts that we have close at hand......examine the profile......he joined way back in march. look him up from collarchat didn't start posting till recently. Some people immediately verified him that knew him face to face and were at least casual acquaintance. The flavor of his posts are such that his age and background fits includes his wife and submissive of many years (Libby) in his posts and some of there other extended family. Spells well and writes in a clear and understandable style like he may be educated and has some experience in unfolding an event. Did not raise the stakes in the inevitable feeding frenzy and internicine and inimical war that ensued. Has talked about some of the old BBSs and Uusenet and the difference in threadings and so forth that might be expected of a man his age. Produced a photograph that insofar as we know has not been published elsewhere......(And we can all jump to the conclusion knowing the miasma of this venue that at least 4500 people are even now frantically unclothing the originators of AARPNET looking for that picture........Hasn't posted one inane or contraversial post (in a horrid or bad sense) And has dispensed some pretty good advice.

If he is a wanker, he certainly is a patient and evil one..... To spend this kinda time and energy just to whack of this fucking funny farm for a couple weeks.

Ah, shit........call me jaded.

Sincerely and with no malice intended to any,
Ron

Very well put... like I said... the truth has a way of making itself self evident in time. For future reference, if you feel the need to verify someone is who they say the are, do so privately. Doing so publicly is generally considered rude, its like throwing down a gauntlet. Don't do that unless you have good grounds to do so (for example you're pretty sure the person is a fraud and intend to prove it).

For the record, I don't know Mr Warren. But I'll treat him with a degree of respect (such as calling him Mr Warren until he suggest I call him otherwise). Why? Because he's been in this lifestyle longer than I've been alive. He's written several books on the lifestyle, which is more than I've presently accomplished (all I've managed are a few articles and an outline for a book). That's achievement... that's merit... it merits a degree of respect in my book. Its not me falling over to worship at the alter of the great guru or any other such nonsense... just simple respect for achievements done. Anyone who knows me well knows damn well I'm no respector of person. If he were to turn out to be a wanker or an asshole I'd happily BBQ him in flames. If he says something I disagree with, something my experience tells me isn't on the mark, I have no problem with voicing that and debating the point with him. But in general, I'll treat him with that degree of respect because based on his merits, I'd say he's earned it. Then again I'm old fashioned that way.

John works fine for me. It's only under special circumstances I find myself being called "Oh GOD!" or "you god damned sadistic bastard."

Actually, Mr. Warren makes me flinch a bit. You see after I got my masters, I taught at a university for seven years before going for the doctorate. In that time, a number of the terminal-degreed-assholes delighted in calling me "Mr. Warren" at faculty meetings. (Translation: "Take note the person I'm talking to hasn't reached MY level of education.) Thus, in that environment, what was a polite title became a put-down. Just goes to show how different segments of our society can be.

Nice to meet you John... I answer to Padriag, Pad, or Paddy, Padriag actually is my first name. It is interesting how people can turn a polite term into something snobbish. Although I won't say I don't on occasion look down my nose at someone, when I do I'm rarely so subtle about it. [;)] Looking forward to seeing you post more and sharing thoughts. Feel free to comment on my posts here in the forums or in email, I don't mind either.

Thanks, as always Gloria, for being gracious enough to respond - I understand your post now - much more clear.
I think it was just plain wrong for people to come down on others for making a genuine attempt to verify to help clear their own feelings. Thats my opinion and I think if people like yourself wanted to verify - more power to you and imtempting.
I think it shows alot of integrity when someone wishes to verify and be true to themself.

Peace and Love

Why do it privately? Goodness - if someone posts on an open message board - they are surely mature enough to realise that they may be questioned. John responded - quite politely - doesn't seemed phased by the whole idea. What was rude, was people coming down on those 'publicly' in such an abrupt matter for being honest enough to show a bit of commen sense, instead of waiting. Maybe patience is a virtue at times, but only fools wait for forever.

I have no intention on continuing this argument...however I wanted to state a couple of facts as I know them.

Yes, he did join way back in March. He told me as well he didn't notice the board's until recently. I was one of those people who knew of him because of his writings. I know the photo was of him because it is on his book. Very easily scannable. The mere fact he is a public man makes portraying him all the easier. We know more facts about him than say you know about me.
He could also use spellcheck. One of my old professors has asked me time and time again where my first book is. I know for a fact I am not of the caliber needed to write. Not when it comes to proper english..fragments...etc.

So, yes I verified it was him. Because I've seen many great people be plagarized all over the net. Including myself. If someone were impersonating me I'd want to know about it today. Not a year from now when someone decides it is time I know.

Angel I know you've heard me say many times if you don't understand ask. I tend to type at light speed. Also don't care much for long stories so sometimes I leave many details out. Not meaning to but it happens.
Thanks for asking.

uhmm...... better chance that he will say yes in the morning when he's rested and refreshed!!

Yeaaaaaa ! John's a slut! My God, Im thrilled......! hahaha
Remember all those hot sex fantasies I had from your book, John? I confess... they were all about YOU! lol

May I please have permission to send you a few photos of myself? John & Libby?
Please, please....

and to the person who asked for the ass whipping in the first place... how about if you and I each massage one of Libby's feet or do anything else that she wants? After all, credit should go to you for bringing up such a wonderful request!

Certainly, at the very least, Libby and I could have some nice fantasies looking at them. You can do it through collarme or at my mail email address [email protected]

I recall one party when I walked into a room and Libby was reclining in a chair with two submissives massaging her feet and another on her hand (she was having trouble with carpel tunnel at the time). Rio looked at me and said, "You are going to be busy tonight!"

(Honesty note) It turned out only one was "negotiating for a scene with me, but it was an interesting moment.

Welcome to the forums, John.

I hate to pull a welcome thread, but any more flames I will.
There really is no need.

If anyone has the need to verify that he is who he says he is, you can always go to www.lovingdominant.org and send an email through there. If you want to analyze why someone would have these desires to verify a random poster on an online forum it belongs on another thread.

Thanks,

Thank you. It was getting a bit warm. I had to laugh a bit when one poster thought it was reasonable to ask me to have Libby change my website just to prove I'm me. [chuckle]

It's good to have the flames die and we can get back to the stuff that makes us hard/wet.
