Don't need the law. If they are saying a noose is being used to intimidate someone, by threatening violence, there are already laws to cover that. This is just a distraction.

That's all you had to say!
We should make a law outlawing groups like them.

Why is that ,Popeye?

Owner, because people like that, if you dissagree with them they call you a "KKK sympathiser" they're so fucking ignorant!
What does the "KKK" stand for?
It means, "Koons, Kikes and Katholics."
Now would someone like me "sympathise" with a group that hates a group that I belong to?
They've become what they despise.

Outlaw progressive groups that the far right doesn't like: that's one reason I use the term Nazi-esque to refer to many of today's Republicans.

If I cannot post it, that would neccesarily indicate that there is a 50 post limit on searches, and you ran away from your claim for more than 50 posts, to avoid providing any proof.

Being succesful at dishonesty doesn't make you honest.

Alumbrado:
Now you have been on CM for almost two years and have a couple of thousand posts.  That would indicate that you know how the system works.  Now lets assume that some small aspect of the system has escaped the tentacles of your knowledge.  I would like to offer my assistance to you in this matter.
As you enter each forum you will notice a box on the right side that if you click on it,it will offer you four choices the first being show all messages the fourth will say show threads I contributed to.
If you click the fourth one that says "show all threads I contributed to" it will display all of the threads that you contributed to.  The statement that you allege that I made will be in there.
So now, if you cannot produce the statement that you allege that I made, would be the time to stand up and be a man and apologize.
I await your response.

Petronius, I don't like the far right groups either.
Both of them should be done away with.
Are you joking when you call the SPLC "progressive?"

Where do you come up with this stuff, alumbrado?  Go to the search page, type a name in the "By Author" box and ya get as many as 300 posts per person...15 pages of 20 posts per page.  Add a topic or some words to look for...and hell, you might be able to go back years!

But...it's more fun to make up facts as we go along; part of that 'I'm right and yer a liar' mentality some have, huh?

Being succesful at false statements doesn't make you right.

It has been explained to you how to access all posts.  Why have you not shown me the post you allege I made?

We just  had a report from a fire department in our town that had a noose hung in their front yard.  I find this type of behavior sicking.  Yes.  I think it should be treated as a federal hate crime.

pinksugarsub -> RE: Hanging Nooses as Federal Crime (11/30/2007 7:25:38 AM)

My understanding is that a "hate crime" is an enhancement to an existing crime.  i haven't researched this so i don't know for sure.  But if i'm right, what crime was committed to hang a noose in the first place, so that it may be enhanced as a hate crime?

From the same place I got the notion that there were 2 million or more Klansman openly active in the first part of the 20th century, bearlee.

It is called reality, and it is certainly your choice to continue to ignore it as much as you wish.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Hanging Nooses as Federal Crime (11/30/2007 9:07:53 AM)

Why do we need more laws? Are the local and state laws insufficient to address the problem?

Hey, and what if I wanted to hang a noose on my front door with a picture of Bush's face in it?
Wouldn't that be "protected speech?"
Or, what if I wanted to open a business that sold nooses?
Like, "Popeye's Nooses." "A noose for every neck!"
"Suicide Special, includes kickable chair Free!"
If they tried to stop me wouldn't that be "restricting commerce?"

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Hanging Nooses as Federal Crime (11/30/2007 11:18:14 AM)

Popeye, don't you know that people would get their feelings hurt by that? We must not offend, but that is exactly what Free Speech is meant to protect. Now social pressure is not the government, and your neighbors may shun you, but there is always consequences to our actions.

In general, we need to stop adding laws just to make people feel good. Laws do not prevent behavior, they create it so someone can be punished for their actions. Laws do not protect anyone, except the ones that make them.

hmmmmmmmm...  Let's see... you make up a ridiculous statement regarding limits on searches; I show you that you are wrong and HOW to conduct a proper search...  and instead of a thank you, you pull out a PIECE of my post and respond to something else entirely.

I see how it works...is this like 'doubling back to loose a scent'?  I notice you not only have not responded to demands of proof for the stuff you pull out of thin air...you just pretend nobody's talking to you…or change the subject…or respond to yet again something you pull outta places the sun don’t shine. I’ve seen monkeys do that.

You continue to twist my words, ignore your own, make up crap and then call others names. You have repeatedly called me a liar.  In that original post of mine (of which you only quote a piece)…I told you HOW to conduct a search here.  You attack thompson, calling HIM a liar…and refuse to back it up.  YOU seem the cowardly liar you accuse him (and me, and others) of being.  I cannot understand why you are still here.

And it would be for THIS reason that I no longer want to engage you...but it shouldn't surprise me that you'll call it 'running'.  You're a piece of work, alright.

Alumbrado -> RE: Hanging Nooses as Federal Crime (11/30/2007 1:41:54 PM)

As opposed to the fact that the links I posted proving that your defense of the Klan was completely wrong?  Call it making up crap all day long, just don't hold your breath expecting anyone to fall for it.[8|]

Things can always be misinterpreted as being intended as racist when they are not. Lawmakers should refrain from making new laws in general is my philosophy but instead use the many that already exist to combat such things. It usually comes down to a law enforcement officers lack of imagination as to how existing laws can be applied to situations.

Raechard -> RE: Hanging Nooses as Federal Crime (11/30/2007 4:26:41 PM)

The other thing I forgot to say is that the law sounds impractical and would not be very effective. How would the law be applied to a theatre production where such scenes may be recreated as a testament to a horrific chapter in American history? Is the law being suggested as a way of whitewashing the past because that is always the other danger in these situations.

I agree with you, in fact I felt the incident in Boston was a total misunderstanding since the conductor who brought it on board was wearing it around his neck and claimed it was part of his halloween costume as a suicide victim.  Obviously the person that made the complaint only saw the noose and honed in on it, completely ignoring the fact it was the day before halloween and it could have been part of a costume.  They could have asked why the conductor had the noose instead of jumping to conclusions.
