Is this an important factor for when You decide on whether or not to take on a sub/slave? I.e do you have to find the person attractive?

For me personally yes, I have to find them attractive. But that's attractive to me. I’m looking for someone to be a sexual as well as a romantic partner and that requires some level of attractiveness.

By the way attractive to me also means that I can have an intelligent conversation with them.

No, it's not necessary a decider at all.  Compatiblity is much more an issue, for me.

Also depends on what sort of sub they are or that I'm looking for.

Definitely.

And I'd expect the same from them. I highly doubt that I would get the level of devotion I seek without their finding me attractive.

If I were a Pro it wouldn't be an issue...[:)]

This is a timely topic. I just added new pics to my profile and I admit they are damn good. However, I have NOT changed my profile at all.
Suddenly, I am getting flooded with messages on the other side telling me what a great profile I have.
 
Obviously, physical appearance matters a lot.

Well in considering long term personality wins out with me.  I can't be with a boring drone who doesn't have a sense of humor or adventure.

It would be ungenuine for most of us to say looks dont count. I think everyone wants someone they consider attractive. The most important thing to make it last though is certainly chemistry.

In order for me to have a sexual relationship with a slave he/she must be attractive to me on all levels. I'm assuming that is a necessary requirement for me as well in their eyes/opinion.

However, while I am open to training someone who I do not find attractive that is because in my household training does equal ownership, it only equals training and exploration. Further more, slavery in my household is not about sex so physical attractiveness is not as important as intellectual or emotional attractiveness. However all three levels of attractiveness would need to be their for me to consider expanding into a sexual relationship.

I do choose for character over beauty, but I do want to be attracted to my personal submissives.  As Tammyjo says, training is another thing entirely.  I will train anyone who fits the criteria for that.  I expect my personal submissives to be clean, decently dressed, and well spoken.

Not to anyone in particular, but am i correct in thinking most ladies could train a submissive if the chemistry was there but not the looks, as oppossed to having the looks but not the chemistry ?

All I know it that while being attractive and cute might get you in the door with a domme, a sub needs to bring a hell of a lot more to stay inside the house, whether it is intelligence, the ability to carry on a conversation, having like-minded personalities, the ability to make her laugh without being juvenile, being responsible and grounded, or any number of things.  The same thing goes for the domme.  She can be sexy and have tons of guys fighting over her, but if she's dumb as a post or there is no clicking of the personalities, I won't waste my time with her. 

I'm so lucky to have found a domme that is beautiful and intelligent, added on to the fact that our personalities match up so very well.  We're both a bit off, but in a good way.  We have very similar kinks, too, so that definitely helps...LOL.  [:D]

I prefer a slave be attractive to me, but my idea of attractive isnt the popular one necessarily. I cannot train someone who I do not have chemistry with, regardless of how attractive I find them. The catch here is that online, we are limited in out abilities to find that chemistry, since online communication can stay fairly dry. However, pictures are pretty easy to judge.  They are a yes or no, either they attract you or they dont.

I agree, although one's standards for what is physically attractive can vary substantially from others and include personality/emotional traits.

Hi Laurell, i know what You mean. i think many people take looks and have a level they see or dont see as acceptable, then after that they start taking into account personality traits.

i have to say many of us may have lost out on someone really compatible for being, at least intially, looks orientated.
