I know Taggard.

But let's look at this purely in terms of responsibility.

NEVER give a positive refference on someone you are not 100% sure of.

And never entirely RELY on one.

How many people have offered that you have met offline. In real life at munches or parties? I know the published list as of 3 week's ago were all old collarme board members. Some decent people, some not so decent.
Since it is so easy to fabricate identity...but then you know all of this.
Why? Just a money making venture? You have been around long enough to know that people will get hurt. Most do not have the required common sense to weed out the fakes from the real people.

Someone can show up at a dungeon party and walk the walk, talk the talk and have their "gear" with them, it doesn't mean they are safe, or not someone just showing up to get their "verification" and be done with it so they can start prowling for people to scam or otherwise take advantage of.

Things like this just blow my mind...

Does a drivers license prevent accidents? Does a passport transfer you magically to another country? If a person provides references and they check out, does it make them safe?

A verification site is what it is. No more, no less. If you don't get what it is, then it really isn't my job to explain it to you.

Taggard

So then are you saying your site is useless?

And while a driver's license does not prevent accidents, it sets an imperfect mechanism in place for punishment -- fines, revoking the license, etc. How does verifiedbdsm do this?

I guess I just don't live my life this way. If I meet someone, I have met them. I won't say anything more then that, and I certainly don't give references for people whom I don't know very well, but there is value in knowing someone is who they say they are.

OK - bastartdised quote from Fidelidy below - and shocked and appalled at myself for being in complete agreement (after the pair of us having something of a hissy fit on another thread) on all the points he raises below.

Cheers

(currently sitting in, despite a munch being on in Dublin cos he's just too lazy to get off his arse and go to it - so much for the 'get up, turn off your computer and go and meet people' lol - in my defence Godfather II is on TV soon, its raining, and I'm tired...groovy movie, shit weather, and laze = night in)

What I am saying is that it has its uses. It should be used for its uses. To use it as something it is not is useless.

It doesn't. That is not one of its uses.

So then the comparison to a driver's license isn't really valid. I don't think the passport one is, either.

So what is the purpose of the site anyway? What are the uses it has, if the verifications aren't really verifyable, and there's no reprecussions anyway?

The comparison is only valid in that a drivers license has its uses and is useless if used for something that is not amongst its uses. A verification site has its uses and, likewise, is useless if it is used beyond what it was intended to be used for.

Yes, it is obvious you don't get what one would use such a site for. As I wrote before,

If you are genuine in your desire to understand what it might be used for, you could visit the site itself, or even have a peek at PrincessinLatex's post here.

You still didn't answer the question, and I have looked at the site. By saying "you just don't get it" is an easy way out -- you just really can't say that the site serves any true legitimate purpose. And charging money for it on top of it -- yet you won't take time to answer the question -- raises some questions.

I did read the thread of your one (1) supporter. I invite you to also read this thread, which has some strong opinions -- none of which you ever addressed or responded to.

How bad is it that I understood most of those even though I've never actually played D&D?

Not too bad. Once the concept of "levels" is understood, most of it can be worked out from context.

*patpats* But don't worry... I'll keep your dirty little secret regardless. }:D

Maybe you should then replace your tagline on verifiedbdsm from "don't be mistaken for a HNG!" with "You're mistaking me for someone that gives a damn."

Last time I checked, people who are involved in offering a service, especially one that charges money, generally care what the people they serve (customers and potential customers) think. Pretty arrogant not to, isn't it?

You've never worked with world class coaches, have you? They surely don't give a damn what you think. They don't care if you work with them or not. They have all the work they want, and don't need to cater to anyone.

You see, VerifiedBDSM was a lark for me. I threw it together, had some fun, got bored. It is my way... I like the discussions it brings up so I leave the link in my sig.

That said, I may very well want to revive it at some point. You just never know with me.

I am an enigma, wrapped in a riddle...and all of those on the board who actually know me, stop your snickering this instant!

I'm a little confused. Isn't this verification site YOUR site? If it's not your job to explain what it is, whose job is that?

You are not "coaching" people for money. You are offering a service that supposedly attempts to verify people are legitimate in the BDSM scene -- where safety is an issue. And on the net, where cyberstalking and other run-ins with potentially dangerous people are an issue.

I sure hope the people you 'service' know how committed you are to it. Or, I guess it's just not that big of a deal to you -- so hey, what's a couple of questionable driver's licenses sent in as "ID", what's a few supicious looking characters showing up at a dungeon to be "verified" -- hell, it's all good. Verify away -- after all, Taggard just did it as a lark. Maybe if you sign up on the site when he actually cares, you will get your $10 worth. Otherwise, oh well.

Great service. I hope you aren't as flakey with your own partners.

Priceless Veav, absolutely priceless. You bloody little beauty....

I'd have thought that any reference and/or validation realy hold water if the person giving the reference or validation was someone who has credability in whatever group the applicant is seeking entry. Personally, if some want to take issue with small issues like a preference to be refered by their knickname and thus refer to that person as a fake (or is it flake?) it doesn't say much about the objector or for thet matter the group if they rely in the objector's opinion.... I'm finding that the whole BVDSM world doesn't revolve about the most popular cliques but about individualls who are what they say and by dint of sheer hard work are recognised for what they do.
