Recently, I had made one post about DID (multiple personality disorder) and that post turned into what I considered an onslaught of.... negative responses.

I have not been on this site for a very long time.... and I am still learning what the "structured world" of bdsm is all about (I have much experience with the real life bdsm world).... and after reading information on this site for awhile and becoming more familiar with the terms you folks use.... I am astounded at my stupidity.

When I niavely wandered into the main chat room and asked, "I have DID (multiple personality disorder) and I would like to know if anyone else here has it, to see if they want to talk about alters and such"..... that one Dom said.... (pregnant pause) "Is this a joke?"

I had thought he said that because it was an inappropriate question to ask in a public chat room..... but now... I think he asked that for the exact opposite reason.... I believe he asked that because the bdsm world is the "playground for multiples"!

I just didn't know that. oops... sorry!

The terms that are used.... sub-space, zoning out, shutting down, shutting off, age play....
oh come on..... age play?!!!!! give me a break.

Alter egos?!!!

What the heck do you folks think I was talking about? You are toying and playing around with this and I just didnt know it.

I truly wish just one of you would have said....
"hey, zaynab... in case you are too dissociated to realize it.... we are all altered people who are just having a great time here! HELLOOOOO!"

I feel like such a fool. It was so obvious. And Junkyard? Geez.... you were really good..... unless and please dont tell me that you were actually sincere... because if you really were sincere.... buddy... you got a lot more problems than I do.....

I believe she's saying we're all suffering from "DID" aka Multiple Personality Disorder. So that would make her the sanest one here, since she knows, and the rest of us are in blissful ignorance of our own makeup.

I gather some people said some cruel things to her and she feels the need to sort of flip us all off in bulk as a response.

I read the original line of posts and passed comment. The truth of the matter is I thought it was Direct Inward Dialing (something that occurs at phone companies all the time). I still hold a healthy scepticism on this issue, because I have never seen it. Many people do not believe that which they have not experienced when it comes to the exraordinary stuff of life.

But to be flifpped off in bulk is a long standing tradition at this site and I can only shrug my shoulders and say whatever.......

I get that you were embarrased. However... Anyone that takes ANYTHING IN A CHAT ROOM SERIOUSLY should be.

The people that should feel foolish are those who don't take your disorder seriously enough to act like mature netizens and not a bunch of cuckoo birds. I agree that this 'lifestyle' incorporates altering reality and lots of fantasy, but c'mon... it's 99.9999999% healthy CHOSEN adult PLAY. That has nothing to do with DID. But i guess we're a buncha willlld n craaaazy guys! For what it's worth, welcome to the boards and be prepared to get the good with the bad.

I just don't believe it exists. A lot of controversy surrounds DID in the medical field and for good reason. I remember having a "friend" who claimed to have it, but it was just an excuse to try and get a medical disability. It failed, mind you, but still that remains stuck in My mind whenever I hear of this disorder.

I think there are imbalances that create these symptoms, for sure, but I personally believe there are other explanations for them.

Just My personal beliefs based on what I know of DID, so no sense jumping down My throat.

DiD/MPD does exist.
It is rare (in it's truest form) and often people misdiagnose themselves as such. Self-diagnosis with mental illness is often incorrect, especially when it comes to more complex disorders.

There are a number of Dissociative disorders (that are NOT DiD/MPD)... often times people self-diagnosing don't know of the other dissociative disorders (as DiD/MPD is the most well known - probably - but not necessarily well "understood") and assume that because they "dissociate" they have DiD.

...as an aside.. there's a lot of controversy around mental health in general....
but... that doesn't mean anything.
There was a time there was a "lot of controversy around bacteria".. but we now know bacteria exists and that sickness isn't all about "demons" or some other mystical "thing"... ~ eventually our knowledge of mental illness will improve... just like our human knowledge of physiological illness has improved ^_^
