I happen to have a cat, and am getting a puppy. My Ragdoll cat doesn't aggravate my allergies, but she does to some of the boys I play with. Generally I would recommend non-drowsy antihistamines, but someone recently suggested that they would act as bloodthinners and could cause problems. Any feedback?

Generally I'm not doing needle play with the boys with allergies, but it's good to know if I have to take precautions.

Thank you, everyone.

I'm really badly allergic to cats (depending on your cat, 4 hours in your house could mean a trip to the ER and a steroid breathing treatment for me) and I've tried all kinds of antihistamines.  Some have some subtle side effects while others are like being hit with a baseball bat repeatedly.  From talking to other people, many of the subtle side effects are different from person to person.  What makes me feel just a little out of it, makes some other people jittery.  I'd have each one of your allergic boys try out their antihistamine of choice a few days before doing a scene so they can get a feel for the side effects and go from there.  If they are on any medications of any kind, you should always watch your play partners carefully during a scene and check in with them periodically.

Thank you for the suggestions. Generally I simply inform them ahead of time, and if they have a serious cat allergy - like yours, Eclipse - I suggest we don't play, but I'd like to cover my bases.

*sigh* Oh, for the time when I'm in the new place, and the dungeon is in the basement with no access to the critters...

When it comes to animals vs allergies, most choose to have a pet. In that case, antihistamines are most likely going to be needed. As far of it's strength in thinning blood, I can't imagine them being stronger than an Aspirin or glass of wine. However, a pharmacist can point out the dangers better than me. Anyways, via prescription or over the counter, antihistamines normally will not interfere or endanger play time. As for me, all antihisamines in pill and liquid form make me drowsy and or gettery. Luckily, there's little to nothing that breaks me out in hives.

Are they allergic to needles? If not, then needles aren't a problem. Just keep the needles clean, sterile, and one time use only. Infact, accupuncture has been used in treating allergies. I'm not going to comment if the treatment really works. Instead, I'm only pointing this out as proof that people with allergies can be stuck with needles.

Enjoy

Smartypants. I meant that in general the boys I do needleplay with don't have allergies, but if it turns out that antihistamines are significant bloodthinners, then I will know to avoid bloodplay with boys on those meds.
