TrainHerTender -> D/s Psychology (12/6/2007 1:49:33 PM)

One of the things that has always attracted me to this scene is the dynamic of growth and improvement that you can see in the life of another when you invest yourself in them through a D/s relationship.  It forges bonds that are stronger than any other.  But because D/s relationships unlock such emotionally powerful doors, I often find myself feeling that I'm practicing counselling without a license.  Now I have a real desire to learn and develop my understanding of D/s psychology so that I can improve upon what I'm doing now by instinct.

I'm interested in anyone's list of good reading material on the subject of D/s relationships.  I'm also very thankful to those in the community who've taken the time to communicate very thoughtfully on this subject in the past.  .

You only just posted this question recently ( a couple of weeks - if that) and have answers here -

Unless your not really talking about the psychology of Ds, but 'other' publications, now.

Yes, I know exactly what You mean! My favorite web resources, to this point in time, are CastleRealm -- Read entries from jade's side -- her garden journal, her "Shoebox" entry, her fears of water and swimming, etc. Then SteelDoor Chamber Scrolls -- She has essays written. Lots. All sorts of psych-depth.
     Book: The Loving Dominant  (by ?John Warren ??). The stories about saying "No" to bottoms/submissives, esp. the one with the fantastic mindf_ k  in order to spare a submissive from a yearning that was leading her to take more risks with risky people. Jack Rinella's books.
     If You happen to be blessed with a M.A.s.T. chapter nearby, the people there should be a solid resource too.

I have no publications to add, although I agree full heartedly in the psychology as shown by my quote below.

I would say that it may help you to read old threads by looking under "search" in the upper right hand corner of this page. You could learn a lot by reading what people that live this way say about their own relationships... or hang out, read the boards, and ask a few people who have a dominant style that you admire the questions you seek answers to...

The problem with all of the reading is that your mind will tend to get cluttered. The variations among people are tremendous. You will have to sort thru all of it and ask yourself which has they style and values that fit me.

We managed to find our way, no one said the path wouldn't be messy to finding the information we seek... but we all have to sort through it in a way that is meaningful to us whether here or somewhere else.

I think that all the variation only helps people to come to terms with that they have to look within themselves for what resonates with them
